Alright, so after defeating the E4 and the Champion, I trained for a while, then moved on to Kanto. The gym leaders there are always so... Not necessarily easy, especially with a mono Bug-team, but you get through them pretty fast. Heracross and Yanmega are seriousy proving themselves as the powerhouses of the team. Parasect is surprisingly useful, and Forretress is just impossible to take down. Except for anything with a Fire-type move. Beedrill so far mainly functions as a scout, thanks to U-Turn. Poison Jab isn't exactly vital in this gen. Ledian is proving itself time and time again to be useful. Maybe it's partly due to my exceptionally low expectations, but she hits harder than I expect her to almost every time. Still pretty easy to take down, though, but with a Sp. Attack stat of something in the 110s just above level 50, it's surprisingly close to being as high as possible with a good nature, max EVs and IVs and whatnot. So I'm guessing it has good IVs, because I haven't really EV trained.

Anyway, I'm standing just outside Mt. Silver now. I need to train for a while and update some movesets before challenging Red. Here's my team:

This part was a bit rough. I get my last two party members Oak the Trevenant and Pineapple the Ludicolo. With Frost Cavern, the rival fight, and Olympia's Sigiliph the team took a beating. Not looking forward to the rest of the Team Flare stuff, Lysandre, and Wulfric.

You know what is the best thing ever? Your 3DS dying during the Champion fight. And it's not even the Cynthia fight for once, because let's be honest, everyone's DS died fighting Cynthia. Everyone. I'll update this post with the final team once I beat Diantha and AZ.

UPDATE: Fin.

FINAL TEAM:
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Chestnut (Chesnaught) Lv63 @ Leftovers
Female | Gentle (SpDef>Def) | Overgrow
- Wood Hammer
- Leech Seed
- Spiky Shield
- Hammer Arm

TANKY TANK TANK TANK TANK. I don't think Chesnaught fainted once after evolving, especially not once I set up my final moves. Leech Seed and Lefties with Spiky Shield is OP. Always came through when I needed her to. A huge asset to this team.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Walnut (Gogoat) Lv64 @ Earth Plate
Male | Lonley (Atk>Def) | Sap Sipper
- Horn Leech
- Bulk Up
- Earthquake
- Milk Drink

Oh my. Literally nothing the E4 has can beat this thing. So much fun to have around, just for big hits whenever I needed them.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Flora (Roserade) Lv65 @ Rose Incense
Female | Bold (Def>Atk) | Poison Point
- Sludge Bomb
- Grassy Terrain
- Dazzling Gleam
- Giga Drain

Dazzling Gleam saved my a** more times than I can remember, and Grassy Terrain was nice for setting up. I've talked about Roserade plenty before, so I'll leave it be for now.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Pecan (Ferrothorn) Lv63 @ Amulet Coin
Male | Brave (Atk>Spd) | Iron Barbs
- Payback
- Power Whip
- Curse
- Gyro Ball

I used Pekin's set minus the helmet here, because it hits SO HARD. He often turned into a liability on routes due to his low Speed, but showed up in major battles, just like about every Steel type I have used.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Pistachio (Ludicolo) Lv65 @ Damp Rock
Female | Bold (Def>Atk) | Swift Swim
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Surf
- Rain Dance

Rain sweeper. Done. Easy. Let's move on.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Hazelnut (Abomasnow) Lv53 @ Abomasite
Female | Lonley (Atk>Def) | Snow Warning
- Blizzard
- Ice Shard
- Shadow Ball
- Wood Hammer

Hits like a truck every time, and has the only Priority on this generally slow squad. Also, Ice coverage is awesome on Monograss.

Ft. JOHN CENA the Hawlucha, Pistachio II the Lombre, and Nuzleaf the Yveltal

Out of Rotation:
Yulyana the Pansage (Banished for being a bad pokemon)
Cashew the Exeggutor
Hazelnut the Venusaur

IN OTHER NEWS I will be playing my hard copy of Black 2 rather than White 2, and it will run parallel to the remainder of the emulated games, StormSilver and Emerald. This change has been reflected in the header. I'd load it up right now, but needs moar Mario Tennis.

VICTORY! SUCK IT, RED!

Okay, so long story short, I've been doing a lot of completely unnecessary level grinding and moveset updating before challenging Red. But the most unnecessary thing I've done? Switched out Beedrill, a Pokémon I caught as a Weedle and have kept with me throughout Johto and Kanto, caught myself a Pinsir instead and trained him up to level 65 like the others, just so I had a Pokémon with Rock Climb, without bringing an HM slave to the battle with Red. And in the end, I didn't even use Pinsir. Other than that, I've been spending time at the Battle Frontier, earning BP for moves that I barely used. Except Toxic, that one actually turned out to be super useful.

The battle with Red was completely uneven and I fought incredibly dirty to win, using an unprecedented amount of Max Potions, Revives and X Sp. Def. That's right, there are lame cheaters like me who actually use them. Forretress was the only Pokémon I really used in the battle, all the rest were pretty much just cannon fodder, when Forretress went down. I jacked Forretress up on X Sp. Def. and set up Stealth Rocks, and then I just wore everyone down with Toxic and Rock Slide, occasionally healing or using Protect. Charizard took major damage from Stealth Rocks and then (luckily!) killed itself with a couple of Flare Blitzes, other than that, the others were just stalling battles. A little anticlimatic after my (way too) extensive preparing for the battle, but still, I WON!

Here's my final team:
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Forretress, lv. 66 @ Leftovers
Female // Careful // Sturdy
- Toxic
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
Well, like stated above, in this final showdown with Red, Forretress really came through. Fire-types are still a little scary, but aside from them, nothing can harm this amazing little critter!
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Ledian, lv. 65 @ Wide Lens
Female // Modest // Swarm
- Bug Buzz
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
- Roost
Ledian was the team captain. Or mascot or something like that. By no stretch of the imagionation the strongest or most useful on the team, but no one tried harder than she did! Pulled off some unexpected victories, mainly among the Kanto gym leaders. On paper, Ledian sucks. Like, a lot. But she was fun to use, and I just love Ledian's design to death, so I really wanted her to be useful! Here's to hoping that Ledian gets a mega evolution at some point.
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Yanmega, lv. 65 @ Choice Specs
Male // Timid // Tinted Lens
- Bug Buzz
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Air Slash
Against the E4 and especially against Lance, Yanmega was the only reason we won. Yanmega also more or less single-handedly earned all the BP at the frontier. Tinted Lens practically made Yanmega unresisted, so being Choice locked into a move typically wasn't so bad. Also, the extra power was just incredible. Yanmega just rules.
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Heracross, lv. 65 @ Destiny Knot
Female // Jolly // Swarm
- Night Slash
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Earthquake
Hits really, really, really hard and has some nice, useful coverage. I mean, what else is there? Heracross is a solid Pokémon.
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Parasect, lv. 65 @ Miracle Seed
Male // Impish // Dry Skin
- Return
- Spore
- Seed Bomb
- X-Scissor
The almighty zombie bug and the terror that is Spore. Not quite fast enough to really shine, though, but it's okay. A bug team is, almost by definition, (albeit with a few exceptions) a team of underdogs, and Parasect fitted right in.
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Pinsir, lv. 65 @ Pecha Berry
Male // Hasty // Hyper Cutter
- Rock Climb
- X-Scissor
- Superpower
- Swords Dance
The newcomer. Hits like a truck and is surprisingly fast. Proved useful at the Battle Frontier, but other than that, why the hell did I catch and train a glorified HM slave?

Abandoned in the PC like a lowly HM slave:
[PokeCommunity.com] The Monotype Challenge

Beedrill, lv. 60 @ Amulet Coin
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- U-turn
- Toxic Spikes
- Rock Smash
- Poison Jab
You didn't deserve this, Beedrill. What have I become?

I used Pekin's set minus the helmet here, because it hits SO HARD. He often turned into a liability on routes due to his low Speed, but showed up in major battles, just like about every Steel type I have used.

That moveset just works so well! The helmet is nice bonus and compliments Iron Barbs really well, but Ferrothorn is just a beast, regardless.

Oh my goodness. Grass Monotype is X is done. I think the toughest part of this last stretch was Malva and Wulfric.

I'm so proud of this team. Prior to this run I had only used Venasaur. It was very nice to use Pokemon I haven't even thought of using.
