Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge Diamond, FireRed, StormSilver (8/16), Emerald, White 2, Y (8/8)
*VS Team Rocket theme plays*
StormSilver
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- TM HUNT!
- Spend far longer than I should have at the Battle Frontier for a Toxic Orb, Zoom Lens, and a couple TMs
- ROCKETS MAY NOW ALL DIE IN HELL
- My god there are so many Poison types
- Pista, Oak, and Bass clean out the Rockets
- VS Silver: I hax out Honchkrow and then nothing else causes me problems.
- The middle two executives give me major problems, but nothing that isn't solved by a quick soft reset or 3000...
- Archer is the easiest of the executives, with the fewest Poison types
- Welp, imma just leave... WAIT WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?
- VS Giovanni: Ok, you exist. All pokemon with names beginning in Nido are dealt with by Oak/Bass, all others are Juniper's kills.
- Facerush the Ice Path, I can't stand Ice types
- VS Clair: Rawr. Dragons. Luckily for me, I went ahead and taught Pista Ice Beam, which picks off 4 with ease. Salamence is a *****, but eventually takes an I-Beam and dies. Kingdra causes more problems. Knowing from previous failures, I risk it having Swift Swim to set up Rain, reducing Blizzard's accuracy to 50%. Then Breloom goes ham.
- Do the Dragon's Den crap, as well as grabbing the M-Ball and beating up some Kimono Girls.
Team after 8 Gyms:
Spoiler:
NOTE: My sprite resource lacks HGSS sprites for pokemon not native to Kanto or Johto. As such, the Platinum or DP sprites may be shown.

Job's done. Lucario turned into a bit of a body to throw at people while I healed Infernape/Gallade once he got underleveled around gym 8, but he was fun while he lasted.
Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge Diamond, FireRed, StormSilver (8+E4/16), Emerald, White 2, Y (8/8)
DUN DUN DUNNNNN! DUAL-SCREENS OP!!!! CHOICE SCARF OP!!!!! SCARFED DUAL SCREEN USER OP!!!! ON TO KANTO AT LAST!
StormSilver
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Do the Lugia thing, and catch it. Perfect HM slave.
- Hate Route 26/27
- Do Victory Road, but remember that there is actually a Rival battle this time...
- SR at least twice after losing to said rival, then...
- VS Rival Silver: So a word of note before we begin: Juniper is boxed for the HM slave Lugia atm. Honchkrow takes down Pistachio, but Flora bails him out as usual. Oak eats Alakazam. Typhlosion easily dispatches everyone except Elm, but I manage to revive Oak and EQ connects. Kingdra's Ice Beam is annoying as hell, but playing around Elm's Light Screens I manage to take it out. Electivire (Drayno honestly gave Silver most of Paul's Anime team) also runs Ice coverage and takes out Elm, but I manage to get Oak to full health, so he survives said Ice Punch with 10ish HP. Gengar is Silver's last poke. My last potion allows Oak one Crunch, which fails to get the KO. So I burn my last revive on Elm and hope for the best. 7 Screen/Synth turns later, I realize I'm faster than the damn thing and just Energy Ball it for the win. TLDR Typhlo kills everything that isn't Oak or Elm, who proceed to bop everyone else. With skill.
- OK, E4 time
- Get rekt by Will like 30000 times
- I don't really remember the E4 battles, I do remember the decision to get back to the Battle Frontier and buy myself another Scarf won me it. Scarfs on Elm and Flora. Band on Oak. CHOICES!
- I beat Lance on the back of some impressive Screens from Elm, Good overall movement from Pista, and a LOT of Oak Stone Edges. Co-MVPs of E4: Elm and Oak

Update numero siete!
Spoiler:
-Ran the gauntlet on the bridge destroyed the rocket grunt.
-Healed my Pokemon.
-Beat all the trainers up to Bill and talked to him. He walked in to the transporter and I turned the machine on... HEY WHERE DID THE POKEMON GO!?!?!?!?!?!?!
-I healed my Pokemon at the center and then did some grinding.
-Got bored with grinding and gave Spots, Bullet seed and destroyed Misty (Starmie no like Leach Life and Bullet Seed). Yay this badge makes Hornet, LISTEN to me!!!!
-Went and beat the rocket grunt with Spots, and Telefly.
-Healed my Pokemon.
Things to note of this update:
-I hate Team Flare's massive amount of poison, flying, and fire types.
-I defeated Ramos, Clemont, and Valerie
-Chestnut is now a Chesnaught
-Coconut is now an Exeggutor
Alright, so after defeating the E4 and the Champion, I trained for a while, then moved on to Kanto. The gym leaders there are always so... Not necessarily easy, especially with a mono Bug-team, but you get through them pretty fast. Heracross and Yanmega are seriousy proving themselves as the powerhouses of the team. Parasect is surprisingly useful, and Forretress is just impossible to take down. Except for anything with a Fire-type move. Beedrill so far mainly functions as a scout, thanks to U-Turn. Poison Jab isn't exactly vital in this gen. Ledian is proving itself time and time again to be useful. Maybe it's partly due to my exceptionally low expectations, but she hits harder than I expect her to almost every time. Still pretty easy to take down, though, but with a Sp. Attack stat of something in the 110s just above level 50, it's surprisingly close to being as high as possible with a good nature, max EVs and IVs and whatnot. So I'm guessing it has good IVs, because I haven't really EV trained.
Anyway, I'm standing just outside Mt. Silver now. I need to train for a while and update some movesets before challenging Red. Here's my team:
Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge Diamond, FireRed, StormSilver (9/16), Emerald, White 2, Y (8/8)
Aaw man, this game makes you take on the Kanto gyms in order? damn.
StormSilver
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Kanto. Riiiiight.
- So I take the Ferry to Vermellion, only to learn that the GL is MIA, and I should go to Pewter City. So they added an order???? Cvap.
- Diglett's Den for training
- VS Brock: easy 6-0
- So I head out to Mt Moon and start to go through it until... WAIT WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE????
- VS Rival Silver: Basically my standard Rival strat - Sac 3/4 pokemon at the beginning then let Pista, Oak, and Elm sweep.
- Breloom is not exactly helping at this point, and I'm not using it for any of the next 6 gyms, so I drop Juniper for now. I'll leave it in the rotation for the time being, but Lugia has it's party slot.
- Reach Cerulean, and upon realizing that I needed to do the Power Plant crap, save and close.
Team in Cerulean:
Spoiler:
NOTE: My sprite resource lacks HGSS sprites for pokemon not native to Kanto or Johto. As such, the Platinum or DP sprites may be shown.

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge Diamond, FireRed, StormSilver (11/16), Emerald, White 2, Y (8/8)
Sigh.
StormSilver
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- zzz Powerplant and Route 24 happen, GIMME A BADGE ALREADY
- I add Juniper back to the team, and it easily dispatches every last Gym Trainer except one annoying Pelliper despite being 7-8 levels underlevelled.
- Train Juni to a little under the rest of the team, and challenge Misty
- VS Misty: This would be the easiest battle of my run... Except for one little detail... Politoed's Drizzle sets up rain and an Ice Beam, only to get taken out by Juniper (who restored himeslf to full health in the process). Lapras is Spored, but it survives a Drain Punch and gets the 1-turn wake to ko Juniper with Ice Beam. Elm easily secures credit with Energy Ball, then sets up Light Screen, only to get frozen by Starmie's, wait for it, Ice Beam and forcing me to switch out. At this point, I realize that this isn't Gen 6 and Drizzle Rain lasts forever, a fact Pistachio could not be happier about. GIGA DRAIN SPAM! Starmie and Lanturn offer a Swift Swim empowered Pista little resistance, and Basswood secures credit for Vaporeon and Golduck with ease. Screw Ice Beam.
- Fly south to Vermellion, and do a thing there.
- VS Lt. Surge: The moral of this battle is that Electric types are fast and I need to use Elm more. Oak easily removes Magnezone from play, and then facetanks an Ice Punch to KO Electavire. I assume that Oak will outspeed and OHKO Ampharos as well, but that is not the case. Basswood puts up a Swords Dance and then bops Ampharos. Raichu does not hit Focus Miss, and Bass manages to survive a Jolteon Shadow Ball. Electrode defeats Basswood, but Juniper steps in to finish the job.

This part was a bit rough. I get my last two party members Oak the Trevenant and Pineapple the Ludicolo. With Frost Cavern, the rival fight, and Olympia's Sigiliph the team took a beating. Not looking forward to the rest of the Team Flare stuff, Lysandre, and Wulfric.
Badges 7/8
Current team:
Spoiler:
Oak the Trevenant

You know what is the best thing ever? Your 3DS dying during the Champion fight. And it's not even the Cynthia fight for once, because let's be honest, everyone's DS died fighting Cynthia. Everyone. I'll update this post with the final team once I beat Diantha and AZ.
UPDATE: Fin.
Y
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Grindy Grind Grind
- Victory Road is hell. There is a rival fight, but that was the easiest battle on the entire route.
- Pokemon League time. still 7-8 levels under Diantha's ace, but who cares.
- VS Siebold: Walnut sets up 4 Bulk Ups and sweeps.
- VS Wikstrom: See Siebold. I do burn the last of my Earthquake uses (where has this happened before...), so rip my Max Elixir.
- VS Drasna: I try and do a lot of things, but she keeps taking out my stuff until I remember that Flora has Dazzling Gleam.
- VS Malva: Pistachio sets up Rain and sweeps.
- As I said above, my DS cuts out the power during the Diantha fight, but I saved before it. We resume tomorrow.
- Flora vs Hawlucha: Dazzling Gleam OHKOes 6-5
- Chestnut vs Aurorus: Hammer Arm OHKOes 6-4
- Walnut vs Goodra: Earthquake deals a little less than half, so I Bulk Up before the second cast. 6-3
- Walnut vs Tyrantrum: I see no reason to switch out a Bulked Up Gogoat, so I don't. Tyrantrum narrowly avoids being KOed by Earthquake and Head Smashes both himself and Walnut to the ground. 5-2
- PineNut vs Gourgeist: Gourgeist opens with Trick or Treat and Pine OHKOes with Blizzard 5-1
- PineNut vs Gardevoir: Pine takes a Shadow ball to the face and counterracts with her own STAB Shadow Ball (Compliments of Trick-Or-Treat). Ice Shard fails to KO, and Garde takes down Pine. 4-1
- Pecan vs Gardevoir: Curse into the obvious Full Restore, and Gyro Ball enters me into the Hall of Fame.
- AZ is easy
TANKY TANK TANK TANK TANK. I don't think Chesnaught fainted once after evolving, especially not once I set up my final moves. Leech Seed and Lefties with Spiky Shield is OP. Always came through when I needed her to. A huge asset to this team.
Walnut (Gogoat) Lv64 @ Earth Plate
Male | Lonley (Atk>Def) | Sap Sipper
- Horn Leech
- Bulk Up
- Earthquake
- Milk Drink
Oh my. Literally nothing the E4 has can beat this thing. So much fun to have around, just for big hits whenever I needed them.
Dazzling Gleam saved my a** more times than I can remember, and Grassy Terrain was nice for setting up. I've talked about Roserade plenty before, so I'll leave it be for now.
Pecan (Ferrothorn) Lv63 @ Amulet Coin
Male | Brave (Atk>Spd) | Iron Barbs
- Payback
- Power Whip
- Curse
- Gyro Ball
I used Pekin's set minus the helmet here, because it hits SO HARD. He often turned into a liability on routes due to his low Speed, but showed up in major battles, just like about every Steel type I have used.
Hits like a truck every time, and has the only Priority on this generally slow squad. Also, Ice coverage is awesome on Monograss.
Ft. JOHN CENA the Hawlucha, Pistachio II the Lombre, and Nuzleaf the Yveltal
Out of Rotation: Yulyana the Pansage (Banished for being a bad pokemon) Cashew the Exeggutor Hazelnut the Venusaur
IN OTHER NEWS I will be playing my hard copy of Black 2 rather than White 2, and it will run parallel to the remainder of the emulated games, StormSilver and Emerald. This change has been reflected in the header. I'd load it up right now, but needs moar Mario Tennis.
Okay, so long story short, I've been doing a lot of completely unnecessary level grinding and moveset updating before challenging Red. But the most unnecessary thing I've done? Switched out Beedrill, a Pokémon I caught as a Weedle and have kept with me throughout Johto and Kanto, caught myself a Pinsir instead and trained him up to level 65 like the others, just so I had a Pokémon with Rock Climb, without bringing an HM slave to the battle with Red. And in the end, I didn't even use Pinsir. Other than that, I've been spending time at the Battle Frontier, earning BP for moves that I barely used. Except Toxic, that one actually turned out to be super useful.
The battle with Red was completely uneven and I fought incredibly dirty to win, using an unprecedented amount of Max Potions, Revives and X Sp. Def. That's right, there are lame cheaters like me who actually use them. Forretress was the only Pokémon I really used in the battle, all the rest were pretty much just cannon fodder, when Forretress went down. I jacked Forretress up on X Sp. Def. and set up Stealth Rocks, and then I just wore everyone down with Toxic and Rock Slide, occasionally healing or using Protect. Charizard took major damage from Stealth Rocks and then (luckily!) killed itself with a couple of Flare Blitzes, other than that, the others were just stalling battles. A little anticlimatic after my (way too) extensive preparing for the battle, but still, I WON!
Here's my final team:
Forretress, lv. 66 @ Leftovers
Female // Careful // Sturdy
- Toxic
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide Well, like stated above, in this final showdown with Red, Forretress really came through. Fire-types are still a little scary, but aside from them, nothing can harm this amazing little critter!
Ledian, lv. 65 @ Wide Lens
Female // Modest // Swarm
- Bug Buzz
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
- Roost Ledian was the team captain. Or mascot or something like that. By no stretch of the imagionation the strongest or most useful on the team, but no one tried harder than she did! Pulled off some unexpected victories, mainly among the Kanto gym leaders. On paper, Ledian sucks. Like, a lot. But she was fun to use, and I just love Ledian's design to death, so I really wanted her to be useful! Here's to hoping that Ledian gets a mega evolution at some point.
Yanmega, lv. 65 @ Choice Specs
Male // Timid // Tinted Lens
- Bug Buzz
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Air Slash Against the E4 and especially against Lance, Yanmega was the only reason we won. Yanmega also more or less single-handedly earned all the BP at the frontier. Tinted Lens practically made Yanmega unresisted, so being Choice locked into a move typically wasn't so bad. Also, the extra power was just incredible. Yanmega just rules.
Heracross, lv. 65 @ Destiny Knot
Female // Jolly // Swarm
- Night Slash
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Earthquake Hits really, really, really hard and has some nice, useful coverage. I mean, what else is there? Heracross is a solid Pokémon.
Parasect, lv. 65 @ Miracle Seed
Male // Impish // Dry Skin
- Return
- Spore
- Seed Bomb
- X-Scissor The almighty zombie bug and the terror that is Spore. Not quite fast enough to really shine, though, but it's okay. A bug team is, almost by definition, (albeit with a few exceptions) a team of underdogs, and Parasect fitted right in.
Pinsir, lv. 65 @ Pecha Berry
Male // Hasty // Hyper Cutter
- Rock Climb
- X-Scissor
- Superpower
- Swords Dance The newcomer. Hits like a truck and is surprisingly fast. Proved useful at the Battle Frontier, but other than that, why the hell did I catch and train a glorified HM slave?
Abandoned in the PC like a lowly HM slave:
Beedrill, lv. 60 @ Amulet Coin
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- U-turn
- Toxic Spikes
- Rock Smash
- Poison Jab You didn't deserve this, Beedrill. What have I become?
I used Pekin's set minus the helmet here, because it hits SO HARD. He often turned into a liability on routes due to his low Speed, but showed up in major battles, just like about every Steel type I have used.
Oh my goodness. Grass Monotype is X is done. I think the toughest part of this last stretch was Malva and Wulfric.
I'm so proud of this team. Prior to this run I had only used Venasaur. It was very nice to use Pokemon I haven't even thought of using.
Final team:
Spoiler:
Oak the Trevenant
Level 62/Male/Mild/Natural Cure
-Leech Seed
-Wood Hammer
-Will-O-Wisp
-Shadow Claw
While being late to the party there were some things though he still did. Will-O-Wisp was a very important tool to have since no one else could inflict burn status.
Root here was the MVP of the run. Mega Venasaur combined with a great Special Defence made for great tanking on most Ice and Fire types. You'll be seeing this guy again for poison mono.

Hey guys, I am still in progress to finish my dragon monotype challenge, I just got so busy and I just got AS so I haven't been playing platinum much. I will finish the platinum challenge, I did finish FR and HG.
