.... Is there really not a thread about the bird?

    Spoiler:

    [PokeCommunity.com] The New Bird

initially we all thought it was Fletchling but on closer inspection that's 100% a new bird Pokemon. it has a large tuft on the back of its head that Fletchling lacks, and when the wireframe's model gets a texture applied to it, you can see it has zygodactyl feet-- which means two toes in the front and two toes in the back. Here's Fletchling for comparison:

    Spoiler:

considering this new bird has zygodactyl feet, its species can be narrowed down to only a few kinds. (most birds have three twos in the front, one in the back)

a woodpecker, owl, cuckoo, or parrot all have the same type of feet. i'm thinking woodpecker, definitely.

The plumage reminds me of Fletchling, which makes me think it'll be a fire-type of some sort, but...eh. It's difficult to tell with a crappy wire-frame model and a zoomed-in model. xD

Looks like some sort of Woodpecker or Cardinal which would be great since we haven't had any Pokemon based of either of these.

It's tough to say because we don't have any idea on what the scale is for the model--it could be a small bird, or it could be a bit larger. It reminds me of Fletchling so I keep assuming it'll be around the same size as Fletchling too :P But we can't be too sure on that. A woodpecker Pokémon would be pretty cool, but it could also be a hummingbird.

Can't help but be reminded of 'Woody's New Bird,' which rather concerned season tickets at Middlesbrough, albeit tangentially to the main query of whether birds result in the annulment of Jonathan Woodgate's marriages.

Looks a bit like Taillow. We'll have to see if it ends up in the same bracket of, 'We have no in-game Pidgey, panic.'

I agree that it looks a lot like a woodpecker haha. Maybe it's potentially a Grass/Flying Pokemon, if so? Though the orange coloring makes me think not :( Super excited for it regardless!

    It's a Hummingbird! So cute. :')

Funny you mentioned it, because there was a leaked list from last week that included a hummingbird Pokémon. Its base form is pure Flying type, but it gains an Electric typing in its evolution. This is why I did not list my ideas at the New Pokémon thread, because I'm still holding on to that leaked list, and this mystery bird Pokémon could be that same hummingbird Pokémon from the list.

An Electric/Flying bird would be cool, but one would expect it to be blue or yellow :/

the only problem with that is hummingbirds don't have the same kind of feet as this bird.

this bird's feet are specifically for climbing vertical poles (trees), which is why it has an extra back toe. whereas hummingbirds only have the standard bird feet with one back toe.

now here's what a woodpecker's feet (and this bird's) look like:

I feel like it could be a woodpecker since it's beak gives of that sort of vibe.
That would make it a grass/flying in my mind, could see it as a counterpart to Talonflame.

Forgot to pattern the other wing.
The ability would be gale wings but instead of giving flying type moves priority it would do it with grass type moves with woodhammer. As it evolves wood will grow on its head allowing it to use it as a hammer to headbutt with.
