Twitch Plays pokemon

Well, it was kind of a base-breaker. Some wanted Eevee for the potential Vaporeon, others wanted to forgo it and grab Lapras for a surfer. We ended up with Eevee and then there was further argument about whether we should have Vaporeon (for surf) or Jolteon (bc boss). We then went to buy an evo stone and ended up with 4 Pokédolls and a Fire Stone. A division of users then hatched a plan to repeatedly open the menu and try to get the Fire Stone used on Eevee to stop the arguments. They succeeded. And basically everything about Eevee caused chaos. Thus, the False Prophet, follower of the Dome.
Don't forget because of Flareon, we had to access the PC to deposit a Pokemon for Lapras, which ended up in releasing Abby and Jay Leno.

It's only been 8 days and there's already been people tired of seeing this and hating it with a fiery passion. Some people just don't know how to have fun. *sigh* If you don't like it , don't play/watch it is what I say. Ignoring it easier than you think and who cares if there's tons of memes/fan art. A lot of good and popular things have ton of fan art. Okay rant over. In the end Lord Helix will smite those non-believers. He will give the evil ones what they deserve.

It's been 8 days? Holy crap, the fact we managed to reach this far in that span of time, all things considered, is amazing. A lot of people thought it would take months when it started, me included.

Well, I've seen "Twitch Plays Pokemon" mentioned across various sites, but I thought it was just some random typical "Let's Play" broadcast...little did I know that the scope was far beyond that. XD

Thanks to this post that unexpectedly made Pokemon Red/Blue music randomly start playing in another tab in the browser I was using 1-2 days ago, I scrolled down to find what the trigger/source was, and I eventually became engrossed in it. XD Ugh...this is kind of why I try not to spend too much time with livestreams, but this particular one was just too compelling! Once I found out it had a Bulbapedia and Wikipedia page dedicated to it, I considered whether I should start a TVTropes page for it - lo and behold, to my appreciation, it already had a detailed page of its own! (and even a KnowYourMeme page for all of the intriguing memes spawned from the Pokemon phenomenon, along with its vast, dedicated subreddit!)

This has been quite an eventful month, though...from Pokemon Bank's English release to Diancie's reveal, and now Twitch Plays Pokemon (amidst other things in pop culture, like Little Mac's SSB4 announcement, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Power Rangers Megaforce's Season 2 premiere)... Although I kind of want the stream to be somewhat lengthy, if it keeps going on like this, it's going to detract from my productiveness a bit each day! {XD}

Anyways, I was present when we underwent the epic and tenseful "Lavender Town to Fuchsia City maneuver", where we got to Fuschia City after a long trek from Lavender Town (annoyingly, my stream decided to conk out the moment we transitioned from the route we were traveling on to Fuchsia City's boundaries), attempted to enter Fuchsia City's (OMG; at this rate, 'fuschia' totally needs to be a valid spelling of 'fuchsia') Pokemon Center, succumbed to a ledge, tried to replicate the feat again, strolled into Fuchsia Gym with Pidgeot as the only conscious Party Pokemon (any blackouts would've meant going back all the way to Lavender Town to likely navigate Kanto Route 12's maze again), casually took down a Gym Trainer like it was nothing (who had only 1 Pokemon, although we sadly got Pidgeot poisoned in the process), with the chat subsequently going into a craze of reaching Democracy Mode in time to retain our progress. Unfortunately, Pidgeot succumbed to poison in the overworld, sending Red back to Lavender Town... That was probably one of the most depressing moments in videogaming that I've ever seen; it would've been such a Crowning Moment of Awesome if we had made to Fuchsia's Pokemon Center... ;-;

I've watched most of Day 8 (I think I started on Day 6 or 7), although I missed the battle against Gym Leader Koga most of the Kanto Safari Zone navigation (I'm still hoping to actually be present during a time period where Democracy Mode is being used as opposed to Anarchy Mode). The "Great Freeze" (where inputs ceased to be acknowledged by the game as Twitch chat server maintenance was occurring) was hilarious with all of the "rioting", followed by the brief bursts of the game displaying all of the scrolling incoming inputs at a very rapid rate.

Despite being just a viewer (for now), I still feel way more powerless compared to whenever I do battles in Hoenn's Battle Palace (where the computer essentially chooses move commands for your Pokemon at random, and your only permissible action is switching Pokemon). XD I feel like yelling at someone each time we screw up something (even though I haven't actually contributed to the chat yet). XD

I'm somewhat split on the use of Anarchy Mode vs. Democracy Mode.. While Anarchy Mode is truer to the spirit of the game/event, IMO, Democracy Mode does help things get done (I'm glad Democracy Mode was used in the Safari Zone; would've liked to see it prevail during the aforementioned Pidgeot poisoning). I'm hoping it gets used primarily to prevent Unwinnable situations (i.e., if Pidgeot accidentally gets released at the PC, we don't really have any other high-level Pokemon, and it might take substantial experience-point grinding to get Pokemon to levels that can withstand/face the Elite Four properly... And since we can't re-battle Trainers in the game, if we don't have Pay Day, we have to conserve a lot of our money for potential things like resources and stuff).

Also, I LOL'd when I heard that we apparently soft-reset the game at point, leading to the disabling of the Select button. XD

Sooo... the chat broke. There's a message that says it's undergoing maintenance and no inputs are being registered. But the worst part is that we're stuck in battle with the Low Health Alert playing. Dx

The fact that the Low Health Alert annoying was playing at the moment was like icing on the cake (for me, it felt slightly annoying yet very appropriate). XD

---

In any case, I'll be watching for a while... Still awaiting the Sabrina battle, Viridian Gym battle, as well as pretty much everything that happens once we enter Victory Road. XD

To quote a few people:
It's so bizarre how quickly this turned into an internet phenomenon. (Source)

So, in one week, we've spawned a new religion, grown martyrs and expelled heathens, and entered into a new leg of political debate, which was settled (mostly) in about 48 hours.
If this wasn't a video game, we'd be in history books by now, boys. We're more significant to the history of the world than Sealand, I'd wager. (Source)

Lastly, obligatory XKCD comic! (Reddit comments are equally hilarious; and that subreddit's user flairs are so fitting!)

So weird that I'm using the term 'we' so much despite not actually influencing Red's actions myself.. XD

Same here. We might actually be done in a week or two. o.e It could still be talked about a month from now though. I'd like this to be something the community remembers for a long time. With so much fan art, inside jokes and memes, I'm sure it won't be hard to forget lol.

Observing the "Red vs. Blue at Silph Co. Building" battle now. So glad that Pidgeot managed to get sent out, smited "Fake Pidgeot" and avenged its comrades in the process, and grew to Level 56 upon smiting said Pidgeot! LOL; and now it's proceeding to make short work of the rest of Blue's team. XD :t018:

Also, I neglected to mention earlier that I was sad to hear that Charmeleon and Flareon got released, but Pidgeot seems to be carrying the baton of strength for now. :) YESSSS; Pidgeot just swept Blue's team!

EDIT: Freaking hilarious! Actually OBTAINING Lapras took quite a few minutes (I thought we were going to warp out accidentially!), and it received the glorious mismatched nickname of AIIIIIIRRR, or AIR for short!) {XD} :t131:

I love AIIIIIIRRR a lot already. <33

OH here's a thing: Operation: Seed of Hope. Don't think it'll ever be implemented, but it's a good strategy in theory.

Me too bro. I mean I do input sometimes but my main involvement is watching and discussing. But that's a big part as well. We're involved!

Currently the Hive Mind is stuck between fighting Giovanni or healing. Red has been walking up and down the corridor leading to him for a while now.

Also it's so freaking hilarious that your run-of-the-mill Bird Keeper is a bigger threat to us than Blue, who so far has lost every single battle on our first try.

It looks like the healing faction is winning, as usual. Most people realize it's faster to heal than to make our way all the way up again.

I'm amazed that we've taken out Blue every time tbh. But, I mean, once Abba Jesus gets involved we prolly gonna win so.

Wow, really? XD The only Blue battle I've seen so far was the Silph Co. one, but I didn't know we beat him on the first try in previous battles. XD I'm hoping the Champion fight turns out like that, although I'm hoping it's tough as well.

On a side-note, I read someone suggesting that if we ever do a Twitch Plays Pokemon event for Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, we should hack Red's team so that it resembles the one from this (Pokemon Red) playthrough (I'm guessing that the Hall of Fame team would be ideal). {XD} The idea does seem appealing, IMO.

It's so cool that Pidgeot has gotten much more exposure through this event. XD I mean, before, it was a Pokemon liked by a few fans, but now, the sheer size of Pidgeot's fanbase is just...wow. If I ever get a Shiny Pidgeot, unless I can think of something better, I'll most likely be nicknaming it aaabaaajss, in honor of this kick-butt Pidgeot. :3

Sigh...I'll have to resort to the Reddit live-update thread for now; Twitch.tv stream isn't working.. T_T

I've accompanied this "event" since the beginning, and honestly, I think that turning the inside jokes into memes and making fan art of those is blowing them way out of porportion (and a bit childish), and thus makes it lose the fun of it. But hey, if people are happy doing it, I've nothing against that.

I believe Pidgeot was already one of the most fairly well known Pokémon. I think this benefited Pokémon like Drowzee and Venomoth much more, since they are a bit more "obscure" in comparison.

Childish, as we sit here talking about Pokémon Red, which was aimed at which age group?

Awww, lil bby Air just finished off a Rocket Cubone. <33 Just noticed that we have yet to teach it Surf and Strength, though. Should get on that and then go train it up- then we have 3/4 chances of pressing an attack move on someone that could be useful!

immediate next battle has Air get taken out by a Raticate buuuut you know. it's the effort that counts.

It's on the internet though. Most of the fan made content comes from Reddit and Tumblr. So of course it gets blown out of proportions. Everything on Reddit and Tumblr gets blown up out of proportions. Just look at the Doge tag on Tumblr, you'll see that.Nothing wrong in having fun with this, especially with a game aimed at children anyways.

I'm so glad we got a Lapras now!Yay for Air! (that sounds funny in my head, like I'm happy air exist. XD) It looks like it's doing good for itself too. Hopefully it stays on our team for the rest of the game and we can use it for Surf.

Dux is doing really well, even though most people are indifferent to him. :D I mean all I usually hear about is how bad Farfetch'd is but. I like them a lot more now.

AND THE CHAT IS BACK
and we blacked out immediately lmao

Spoiler:

a prayer from the book of helix

Priest: HELIX be with you.
People: And also with you.
Priest: ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ Raise your dongers.
People: ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ We raise them up to the Lord. ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ
Priest: Let us give thanks to the HELIX, our God.
People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

How exactly did they manage to name it Dux anyway? I mean, that's just really impressive considering how chaotic the stream usually is.

How is discussing the game, or this event in particular, childish? The discussion can get childish, but the act of discussing it isn't.

Nothing wrong in having fun with this,

I agree. Like I said, if they are happy, I've nothing against it.

Dux is the default name of Farfetch'd that you get from a trade (in Red/Blue). Heck, I remember how annoying it was, since Farfetch'd was one of my favourite Pokémon and I was stuck with that nickname.
