One thing I'd know is that the kids wouldn't like it. Remember when there was a Dora The Explorer doll that depicted her looking older? I knew I could not handle that.

Fanart exists for a reason! There was an amazing older!Ash art that I found on pixiv and I had it as my wallpaper for a while. I don't have it on this laptop though.

There's also this person who plays older!Ash on Tumblr but like... they don't appreciate Ash from every series so idk. I just feel that if you're going to play Ash you need to appreciate all sides of him. Even the dumb ones.

Hmm, I think the real problem of the anime is the plot writing, not so much of Ash. While I do sincerely enjoy watching the anime, I have to admit that the writing is just too basic. Having a new protagonist would mean absolutely nothing if the current writers retained their positions. Likewise, the fanbase could potentially like Ash a lot more if the plot writing became noticeably better. Don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining about the current writing, but I always try to analyze both ends of any given argument.

I have a feeling that the writers would do what they have been doing and downplay some aspects of Ash while showing off too much of other aspects of Ash. They definitely did that in Best Wishes and they've kinda been doing it in XY. The funny thing is that what they've been showing off vs what they've been downplaying is almost opposide between those two series that those who hated BW like XY a bit more and vice versa.

Personally I love them both for different reasons haha. But it's probably because I understand that the writers just do weird things and I just continue to incorporate everything when playing Ash on the site I play him at.

Edit: Shark pretty much got it spot-on re: writers and how they handle Ash hahah. And just the show in general like I'm pretty sure some of Ash's actions would make more of an impact if the show would just... show and not tell. And agree with the whole simplistic thing too. Sometimes they do have those moments when it's like 'wow' but not often enough.

I'm definaely not going to stop loving Pokemon, been with it since the beginning, I'm seeing it through to the end... But I really wonder just how long of a run it has left...

Idk... Rating for it are dropping considerable amounts... I'm thinking its a case where they either adapt or this might be the end, because I doubt they're going to drag ash back to hoenn

Why didn't you just edit it and change the number?...

The anime has went from a solid 7 last series, all the way down to a 3.7 for x/y... They might improve it next season, but knowing the writers, I'm not hopeful

62. 68 (Ninja'd x6 now? I'm impressed with myself...)

I know I'm a bit of a minority here, but I feel that the first 24 episodes of Best Wishes were the best thing that could ever happen to the Pokémon anime. Yes, they brought along some heavy drawbacks, but they completely nullified those drawbacks with excellent plot maneuvers (relative to the Pokémon franchise, that is). The writers weren't afraid of breaking old formulas, and they also utilized so much real plot setup. For once, the plot actually had a clear direction outside of the usual Pokémon League stuff, even during its neutral periods (and that in itself is already significant). Everything that happened from BW001 to BW022 was brilliantly set up for the Plasma vs Rocket war, but unfortunately that got scrapped at the last minute. The Meowth arc was still really good in Poké-standards though, but I'd say the rest of BW (minus Decolora) was on par with the other series.

Wow my post was made completely irrelevant by all of the ninjas lmao. Basically, what I wanted to say is that there still is hope for the anime's writing if they approach it the same way they did at the beginning of BW, minus the nerf to Ash. xD
