Oh God I hope he does because he's making all of the US look horrid. He's doing to the American people what ISIS does for the Muslisms. He's like a modern day Hitler.

Trump is not disqualified from running for President and he's not disqualified from becoming President either. This is merely a statement saying he SHOULD be disqualified from running for his comments. He's very much still a candidate and (perhaps concernedly) still the Republican front-runner.

Trump's campaign continually baffles me. As an outside observer, I can't seem to fathom why they're letting a man of his caliber run for president in the first place? Is there some kind of sinister politicking at work here, given that he so very clearly has many opponents?

This is just so horrid to read, I know the Islamic culture has been getting a bad image lately but I wouldn't go as far as to ban them from entering my country. I hope Trump gets kicked out because it's just absolutely disgusting.

They can't stop him from running, he has every right to (unfortunately).

Really nobody should be looking at the whole culture badly for something that a minority is doing. Having any prejudice against Islamic people just vindicates everything ISIS says and turns suicide bombers into martyrs.

As for Trump, I'm pretty sure there's nothing they can do to kick him out, but I don't see him actually winning the election. On the off chance he actually does manage to get elected anyway, the constitution he so happily abuses prevents him doing half the things he'd like anyway.

I'm surprised that he still has the amount of support that he does. This shows us that we should be wary of the perils of democracy.

Trump is hilarious. Don't take him seriously. He's not gonna win. People should relax.

This is truly terrifying, and the by-product of a party that has been radicalising their supporters, with the help of some media outlets we all know about, for the intended benefit of some interest groups. The process has gone off rails and is now playing into the hands of a billionaire who doesn't need funds from any major donors (and therefore doesn't need to "behave" at all) and can take over the airwaves thanks to his outrageous discourse alone. He's running on a campaign of fear against anybody who is not a WASP, and sadly there are enough WASPs who have been told that their problems are caused by "the others" to actually buy into that. And considering that primaries usually turn out the most interested members of the party bases, pandering out to these heavily mobilised people can actually swing them, and Trump knows this and is playing it masterfully.

This is terrifying, but understandable after centuries of racism, nationalism and insularity, tendencies exacerbated these past years by politicians and some media who refused to accept a black President, with some of the most paranoid accusations. The Tea Party was the signal that this actually could gather enough traction to work; Trump saw that and he's now trying to steer the car a tiny bit further to the right; straight into full-fledged Fascism.

Trump is hilarious. Don't take him seriously. He's not gonna win. People should relax.

I have been writing some messages/articles these past months saying that he's not going to go anywhere overnight- and he's been staying, going up in the polls and making increasingly more radical statements. I think it's clear enough at this point that we can't just brush aside the possibility of him winning the nomination, which would be enough to send huge ripples accross the political field, and, even if he doesn't win, he's not a joke anymore. He's become a liability, for the Republican Party in particular and for the US as a whole in general. He's not a silly "If I win, we'll have so much winning you'll get tired of winning" kind of punchline anymore, he's openly advocating for a registry and a ban on people because of their religious beliefs. This is, surprisingly enough, one of the few moments in a discussion when you can pull off the "That sounds just like Hitler"... and not be disqualified by Godwin.

I'll say it again. Relax, Trump is a joke. Most people know that. I think even he knows that. Probably why he constantly says ridiculous things. There's no way he will win. Even if he miraculously wins the nomination, he'll get destroyed in the main election against Hilary or Sanders. Next time, you see another controversial comment from him, just laugh. The guy is a joke.

If Trump's campaign really was just a joke to most people I kinda doubt he'd still be leading in the polls for the Republican nomination. While I think that a lot of people tend to overexaggerate some issues and downplay others in the US, there really are some people in this country who actually believe in the crap he says and really will vote for him, and possibly not an insignificant number either. Some people really are that dumb.

The problem is not whether Donald J. Trump can win the nomination and then the general- chances of him pulling off both remain at negative numbers. That is not the matter at hand. The problem is this:

As for public opinion, it's too soon to gauge polling reactions, but we already have a sense of Republican voters' general attitudes on the subject.

Public Policy Polling published results yesterday on GOP voters' attitudes in North Carolina. Among the findings:

    * 48% of North Carolina Republicans endorse the idea of a national database of Muslims.

    * 42% of North Carolina Republicans believed thousands of Middle Easterners cheered in New Jersey on 9/11.

    * 35% of North Carolina Republicans support shutting down American mosques.

    * 32% of North Carolina Republicans believe practicing Islam in the United States should be illegal.

    https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-spokesperson-so-what-theyre-muslim

THIS is the problem. The problem is not this particularly unhinged extremist, but the very fact that he's actually introducing utterly repulsive and dangerous ideas in the public discussion - and making them sound acceptable to a non-insignificant percentage of the population. Trump is crazy and has been casted as a joke, but he has already seen off moderate mainstream challengers such as Bush, Walker or Kasich, who are nowhere to be seen anymore. As of now, his closest challengers are Ted Cruz and Ben Carson! That is what the primary has become thanks to him. And maybe he won't win both contests- maybe Nate Silver, as ever, is right, and (paraphrasing Rational Wiki), the RNC will do anything short of rigging the voting booths to get him out of the way. But the danger is that now half the Republicans in NC want to make a literal Nazi database listing all US citizens who believe in a certain religion, and a third want to ban it, despite, you know, the First Amendement and all that.

And who is to say that the next unhinged Republican candidate won't look and behave like a joke? What if, after the retirement of cartoon villain Jean Marie Le Pen, his more presentable and serious daughter Marine wins the local elections in France?

That is the stuff of nightmares.

Trump has every right to say those words, he just can't enact them because they are a violation of the first amendment (freedom to speech, assemble, press, religion). He isn't, and can't be disqualified for these reasons; however, I do think his campaign may be ruined. In addition, not even the Republican party seems to like him.

Dont get me wrong, I dislike Donald Trump. He wants to violate our freedoms and economy. Many of the things he says are similar to Hitler, and while do I not think he is nearly as evil, there is clearly something wrong with his ideals. Trump is a terrible, terrible fascist.

You're right but my comments were just focused on Trump being a joke. And the fact that half of Republicans in a southern state are crazy shouldn't really be surprising.

I'm afraid this is only a denunciation. Until there is proper paperwork, he is not actually officially disqualified. It's not like the rest of our candidates are candied-ass Fascists anyways. They're bought by corporations, the Democrats demand our liberties be stripped and the Republicans are nationalistic. We have to pick our poison, and I'd rather have a Nationalist like Trump than a batshit Authoritarian like Clinton or a Socialist like Bernie (definitely helped Russia in the 70s, eh?).

Sadly he's only SEEN as disqualified from being president. The whole dilemma is crap because like most have stated, he ****ed himself over. However, he still is able to run but his campaign won't be as good. It'll be interesting to see what this man has in store for the coming months. I just hope we get a good president and not that unprofessional piece of crap.

The problem with that is a recent surge of nationalistic ideals. A majority of the US wants him as president, and as he is the most nationalistic of the Republican party, there is a good chance he will end up either being president or possibly vice president. Even then, his supporters are still with him and are ever-growing because the American people are tired of presidents such as our current ones and want a protected homeland. This season is guaranteed to be either Trump v Bernie or we will have a guaranteed Republican in office.

Trump if elected CAN ban Muslims from entering the country.

    "8 U.S. Code § 1182 - Inadmissible aliens:

    (f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. "

If I was an American citizen I would vote for Trump hands down. He is the best candidate for the United States, he is what America needs. You compare him to Hitler however President Roosevelt did the same thing to Japanese, Italians and Germans in World War II yet Roosevelt is one of the best Presidents America had.

Yeah, because Nationalists helped Spain in the 40's, too. And Italy. And Germany. I can play that too.

Oh, and, in this case, the ones calling Trump "fascist" are... the other Republican candidates: Jeb Bush adviser: https://twitter.com/noonanjo/status/667748577737863168 / Marco Rubio adviser: https://twitter.com/MaxBoot/status/668447756512456705

But, seriously, if you think Sanders' social-democracy has anything to do with the USSR, I ask you to please visit any country in Western Europe, where you'll find out that there is a difference between what we curently know as Socialism and the USSR's Communism. And by "a" difference, I mean "five trillion". For one, we still have a free market, and freedom to vote, and all that! And no gulags! Amazing, isn't it? And, as far as I know, the only one wanting to stripe liberties from anyone right now is Trump.

He can't do anything about the Muslim people within the country already so long as they have citizenship. They aren't aliens.

Also, why you think voting for Trump is beyond me. It's not odd for a country to close its borders to a nation it's at war with but Islam is not a nation, it's a religion. There is nothing that justifies what Trump is doing, he's a bigot and a fascist and if you want to talk WWII, he's behaving a lot more like the Nazi government than the US.
