gdi, those look cool but... it's about the money not the collectability. Just trying to keep costs low for ORAS as it's not top priority but still something I want to do.

Oh. Everybody here should know about this:

Steam is having a giveaway this weekend with 10 huge titles. Free-to-play all weekend, and I think they will be sold at discount prices during the weekend as well. This was a thread on r/steam. I hope it is true.

Titles are:
  • Awesomenauts
  • Blade Symphony
  • Company of Heroes 2
  • Don't Starve
  • Grid 2
  • Injustice
  • Killing Floor
  • Payday 2
  • Trine 2
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I haven't played any of these games. I'm thinking of getting Don't Starve and/or Payday 2. Anybody care to share opinions on any of these games?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was just being given away. You might still be able to snag a free copy.

I haven't played much of Payday 2 yet - I bought myself and a friend a copy over the summer sale, but then his desktop died :( - and it's far better with friends. Nearly impossible by yourself, your AI buddies are just meat shields. They won't grab the bags or complete objectives, and they offer very little cover fire.
Just don't go into it expecting it to be a shooter. Boyfriend hated it because it was "too simple" - his main complaint was that you can't lean out of cover. At its core, it's not, it's a heist game. You're not supposed to stick around long or try to kill everything. And he had issues with that. =p

And also completely relevant - The first Payday is being given away today. c:

I actually really want to play PayDay 2. It looks like a pretty fun game overall - just never had the chance to actually go out and get it.

Just gave PayDay: The Heist a whirl and I really like it. I thought it looked great, and apparently it's the original. I thought it was a standalone title of PayDay that came after PayDay 2 (similar to the AC Liberation HD). Definitely gonna buy PayDay 2!

Also I was worried about a learning curve but it's a very straightforward shooter. The hardest part is knowing where to go and what your objective is but it's pretty clearly indicated on-screen and via radio transmissions.

I've been told I should look into Steam. I'm curious about the community and such because I see a lot of you lovelies have it Also, PC Y U no have 360 Minecraft fun stuff?

Steam is great. The idea of it is great. The support is sub-par and some core features could be touched up. But in the end it's a game library and social tool. And it does those two things great.

The community is also really great and for certain games it's incredibly creative. So much custom content coming out for toooons of games. I almost can't believe the amount of stuff coming out of Steam Greenlight and the Steam Workshop.

And Steam has crazy deals year-round and 2 annual store-wide sales. They definitely honed in on and perfected the idea of digital distribution.

Suggestions to Nintendo

If you had any suggestion you wanted to make to Nintendo, what would it be and why? (I placed this here because not all answers might be pokemon/game related. It kind of goes both ways with being tech and gaming at the same time. D: )

It can be anything from the games you play to the systems themselves.

For me, I would want to suggest making it possible to rename traded pokemon. Mainly because now that we have wonder trade, we may get a pokemon we want to keep, yet don't like it's name. For example, if I got an eevee I wanted to keep, but someone named it Cheesehead. I would want to rename that pokemon to something more fitting if possible.

I also would suggest them to make their DS systems more durable. I know they are somewhat durable now, but just look at the PS Vita. I've dropped my Vita soooo many times, and it has not gotten a single scratch. With my 3DS, it's worn off in the corners, has a broken piece missing where it bends (I'll get a pic later to show what I mean) and lots of nicks and stuff.

So, what would you suggest to them to make their games/systems better?

Get on that Oculus Rift.

Remember how the Wii pioneered the motion-sensing controls and dominated sales? Albeit, all of the major gaming consoles were successful that generation. But, I would say the motion sensing was a big draw, next to advanced online play as far as that gen's systems go. Nintendo needed more than a touch screen gamepad...they need another next big thing in gaming.

With that said, Nintendo needs to improve online play, chat, ect. Adults are not rationally going to purchase Nintendo devices to shield their children...children/teens want system X and get system X. It's bad for sales to limit online interaction! With that, and improving online gameplay, 3rd party shooters like COD, which I loathe, will help support the system.

Definitely agree on making their handhelds more durable. I've dropped my GBA SP once before accidentally, and it immediately began malfunctioning (such as when you'd turn it on, it would automatically shut itself down few seconds later), which was sort of troublesome. Similar thing happened to my DS Lite, but thankfully, it wasn't as intense. Am afraid of making my 3DS due to the same, exact reason, which causes me to be extra careful while handling. If it were more strong, I would've been able to worry a little less, which, I feel, would be nice.

Alongside, another suggestion I would make is turning DLC more prominent. This would allow us to extend our game, and continue playing after we're done with its story. Of course, some of there video games do have these things, but there's still a lot that don't, especially Pokémon; if Pokémon had DLC, I'm sure many of us would be into them.

I've had many other ideas as to what Nintendo would possibly be able to try and whatnot, but right now, these are the only ones I could think of, aha.

My suggestion would be that you can't keep up sales by being lazy and selling purely from the good reputation you built up with the Wii. Be interesting dammit, and give us a reason to buy your stuff other than just because it's made by Nintendo.

Bring back Nintendo Power so I can continue my childhood dreams of writing for it. lol I also like Matt's suggestion of buying back Rare because HONESTLY MICROSOFT, HONESTLY. What have you DONE?

Also I really wish Nintendo wouldn't allow all these terrible games to make it through to their systems. All the ****** Wii games that emulate Wii Sports, party games, the Imagine series, etc shouldn't be put through. I get that they're kids games, but kids aren't stupid. They'll know it sucks. Kids deserve good games to grow up on. All these games you can pick up for literally a buck or two? Just a waste of a Wii case. I haven't seen this happening with the Wii U so far and it better stay this way. But the Wii got LITTERED with ****. And it doesn't deserve that. Players didn't and the system didn't either. That's part of where its ridicule stems from.

Wii and Wii U in mind, why were N64 games available for Wii shopping channel, but there aren't any on the Wii U's eshop? Just strange to me. The Wii U is more than capable of handling those games.

And last, rename the New 3DS. It's basically a new system. Name it accordingly. Save sellers the pain of explaining to impatient parents the difference between a new NEW 3DS, a new old 3DS, a used New 3DS, you get the picture.

Moving this on over to the Video Games section~

Oh, it fits there? I thought it would be a better fit here because it borders between tech and gaming. O_o I guess in a way, Nintendo is sort of involved more with gaming though.

Anyway, I agree with some of the stuff here.

I also had another suggestion about making their games a little better. I mean, I love Mario games more than the next person... but all of these spin offs like Mario Kart Racing and such? Do people even care about those games anymore? It seems like they are trying to gain a more childish response from kids. I've never seen Nintendo come out with something geared more towards adults. If anyone can name an adult Nintendo game, I'd love to hear it. They'd make a lot more money if they followed both crowds. In other words, gear towards children AND adults. Just look at Sony and Microsoft (Xbox franchise).

I mean yeah, I imagine it's hard coming up with an young adult genre game for 3DS or something, but it wouldn't be that hard for the Wii. I do know one game and that is the ones it came with (IE, Wii Fitness and those games). Other than that, my question rings true... have they ever come up with a game geared towards younger/older adults?

You do realize that Mario Kart 8 was one of Nintendo's major releases and best sellers of the year right? And is one of the most popular games to play online at the moment. I'm part of a small Skype group that plays MK8 together as well. So...yeah. People do like Mario Kart and the next Mario Party is also pretty highly anticipated as it's making major changes to the series, as did the last one actually.

And for what it's worth, I see a lot of adult looking Miis when I play MK8 online...dont know a lot of kids with full beards. :P

I had no idea. I guess I'm just not into racing games because I'm so horrible at them lol.

Yeah, I guess that's true. I still think Nintendo's main goal is to attract a younger audience, even though they are attracting both adults and children. It's kind of odd to me because the only thing I've ever played is Pokemon, Digimon World: Dusk, Disney Magical World and Animal Crossing (just started it and still getting the hang of it).

Anyway, this is why the need to make their 3DSes or future ones more durable:

Spoiler:

As you can see, it was chipped. It still plays fine... but it's just bothersome sometimes. I don't even know how it happened. I really think the big issue here is making them more durable so stuff like this doesn't happen.
