Hmm...I'm beginning to wonder if it's a good idea for me to restart Skyrim with a new, but similar character. I'm beginning to run out of things to do. (Maybe also on raised difficulty, too.)

For the most part, SNES games are a lot pricier than N64 games; it all depends really whether or not you want to dish out more money for the SNES considering it still has an excellent library. If I were you, I would look at eBay and look at console bundles; a lot of sellers combine the system with a slew of games going with it - great games by the way - and the price actually isn't that bad as well.

If I were you though, go with the N64. It's cheaper and the games on it are still great to this day.

Except for Glover. Never play Glover
.
Wuh? Sure its a weird, borderline mediocre game, but its an excellent test of analog prowness, and its the one thing that trained me as a kid to "think" three-demensionally.

I would probably do this if there was an achievement for playing on harder difficulties. Sadly there is not. Like the only games on the planet without difficulty achievements are from Bethesda, lol! That said, not all challenging things I do require incentive or else I wouldn't be in charge of Challenges. So maybe I'll play on the hardest difficulty. I want to play a more straight warrior and actually do smithing for once. The only other character I made really was for the Thieve's Guild because my character is so bad at stealth but already over level 50, so it seemed like I would have a better time playing it at a lower level with a character suited to it. btw the fact you can be the Arch Mage before level 10 is pretty funny.

Transparent 2DS' are now a thing, both are bundled either with a copy of OR or AS. Nintendo did it, those crazy bastards brought back the transparent handheld. Oh wait, apparently they're either stand alone or bundled with the games. I'm pretty sure at this point this damn thing is why we have no N3DS this year.

Last week's hardware sales in Japan are... I can't find a word to describe them.

PSV + PS4 + WiiU + PS3 + XB1 + 360 + PSP = 36,786

Nintendo 3DS (XL) = 43,592

And this is three weeks before the New is released, essentially making all the 3DSes sold these days obsolete. Meanwhile, according to Media Create, Xbox 1 sold a whooping 1,000 units just two weeks after its release.

If we just look at Japan, home consoles are dead.

I want to go and buy a new 3DS game tomorrow (really shouldn't have a lot of things I could be paying off but whatever I'm flaky with my money) though I'm not sure which game to buy. Smash Bro's is out soon and I put a deposit down for that, but I want a large plethora of games in the long run and right now I'm only rocking Pokemon X and Lego: The Movie The Video Game.

Suggestions anyone?

Honestly, that's been the situation in Japan for the last year. Handhelds and smartphones are incredibly dominant in the Japanese market. I thought the PS4 would at least be the console to do at least upward 10 000 weekly, but nope. After the first couple of weeks that shrunk to around 5000 - 8000 units per week.

3DS is absolutely insane though. Sixteen millions units sold and it's still going strong, and those numbers are only going to rise. It's not on par with the original DS lines growth in Japan, but it's still impressive. Three years for the DS managed to sell twenty-one million units, while three years for the 3DS sold roughly sixteen million units; I'm really curious if the 3DS will reach its predecessor's numbers, which was lasted reported to be beyond thirty-three million.

Also, Bayonetta 2 opened with 38 828 units in Japan. That's pretty disheartening for a game I want to see do well.

I would think this probably has a lot to do with ORAS coming in just a couple months. People probably are trying to get their system ahead of time and with the new on the way, the XLs might be on sale some places over there. I mean Pokemon is pretty popular world wide, but it's nothing compared to what it's like over in Japan.

Glad for Nintendo to be doing well, but the shift of anti-home consoles is a bit worrying for those that enjoy our home systems. I don't always like playing handheld, so I don't necessarily want the trend of "handhelds-only" to overwhelm the market.

Then again, home console sales in the West are a bit better, I'm sure.

This is kind of belated, but I just wanted to say Happy 125th Birthday/Anniversary to Nintendo! Thanks for all the years of gaming in the past, and I look forward to many more in the future!

It's kind of nice that "Mario vs. Sonic vs. Megaman vs. Pac-Man" happens in the same year, though, via Super Smash Bros. 4...

Bought Bravely Default today. The opening cinematic made me tear up a bit
Spoiler:
and I'm absolutely loving it so far.

Also digitally purchased Resident Evil. That's for tonight, though.

It's just because Japan is obsessed with Nintendo handhelds and Nintendo has biggest fanbase there.
You won't find the Nintendo dominance anywhere else.
And X-whatever shouldn't even appear there =D It is exact opposite of what Japanese want from a gaming system.

Can you guys believe that there was a time where Nintendo DIDN'T make video games? XD It's so weird to think about them being a toy company or whatever they did, I think they made games still.

It would have to be because of population, because there have been far more (major) Eastern oriented home console releases (or consoles in general, especially handhelds) in the past year.

Well, that and Japan's hate for anything Xbox.

Regarding this, I wouldn't say they're obsessed, per se. Nintendo and Sony see about as many third party Japanese releases as each other, and as a result, it would seem that the Sony X Nintendo rivalry is very much alive in the East, even if its more on the level of the consumers rather than the companies themselves. Nintendo and Sony in Japan are not much different than MS and Sony today here. But, essentially, if Japan's obsessed with Ninty, they're just as obsessed with Sony.

Also, unrelated, if we're talking about olde Nintendo, I really want original Nintendo hanafuda cards. That or a trip to one of their love hotels with Mario characters on the bed covers and posters of Shigeru and Iwata on the walls.

Aren't hand held devices also more prominent in Japan than regular consoles? I feel like I'm taking a shot in the dark here but I could have sworn I read that somewhere. Or at the very least, hand held devices are more popular there than compared to the West.
