Question Of The Day #11: Why did you decide to join PokeCommunity?
PokeCommunity I believe can be defined as more than just a Pokemon site. You've got so many spectrums and avenues that you can go down on this site that it's almost frivolous to try and keep track of them. Furthermore, as there are other Pokemom forum sites such as Marriland and Serebii, there must have been a reason why each one of chose PC over a "rival" site. So, why did you choose to join PC? Was there a specific aspect of the site that appealed to you which inevitably helped you decide to become a member? Did you try any other Pokemon sites before settling on PC? If so, how did your experiences on these other sites compare to the one you're experiencing now on PC?

Feel free to discuss all entities of this topic below!

PC was the first forum I found. I don't have any other reason than that as to why I chose it. Glad I did though as PC is definitely the best forum BY far. The people here are great, I love the forums, and I don't see anything that other forums have that would make them more appealing than PC. That's just me though.

PC was the first pokemon forum I found. The reason I came here was because of an old friend of mine. I have actually tried to mingle on other pokemon forums, but it's as if none of them can amount to what PC offers. I'm used to this place, and how things work. I've even gone to non-pokemon forums before and realized it's harder for me to mingle on them, even with my special interests and such.

PC will always be my home.

PC was the first Pokemon forum I found. At the time I was about 16. I was just getting back into Pokemon after quitting a few years after starting high school and thinking I was "Too Old For Pokemon" At the time before I quit I didn't know there were sites just dedicated to Pokemon. In my era of Pokemon gaming we had Gameboy colors, Gameboy Advances and had just got Nintendo DS. I didn't think there were much online communities at this time. I was just simply to young to use the internet and around my area there were a couple of us who played pokemon together on daily basis so I never seen the need to go looking for a community online.

I came to PC after it being the first one I found due to the fact that most of my friends who I played Pokemon with daily in the old days had all grown up and were "Too Old For Pokemon" in their eyes. So I needed some where I could talk with other Pokemon Fans and Gamers Plus be able to Trade/Battle when we got into the Nintendo Ds & Wifi Era.

That is just simply how I came to be at PC. Over the years I have checked out Serebi and Other Pokemon Forums/Sites but once I was at PC it's like none of them could compare to PC. They all lacked in one way or another that PC didn't

PC was the first result when I googled so I figured it was probably the biggest and "the" Pokemon site. It wasn't until I was completely integrated into this site that I realized there were others.

Same as the one above me, except with people like Sheep giving me warm welcomes, I had to stay. Great community.

Sheep's amazing. She's pretty much been one of my biggest inspirations in terms of PC members.

As for why I enjoy it here? I used to be on Bulbagarden Forums because I tried to look for a Pokemon forum to join and share interests with others... but sadly a very terrible incident there happened, and I became a victim of mod power abuse. The staff there were not treating me fairly at all, and I eventually decided to disappear without a trace... never to be seen again.

And then I discovered PC. I got off to a pretty bad start because there were times I was accidentally breaking rules as well, but then someone (probably a friendly mod) motivated me to become more of a friendly figure and that's why my former noob side was eventually completely eliminated.

I know that if there's one forum I have to forever remain committed to, it'd be here.

I honestly didn't know there were other Pokemon forums besides Smogon and PC when I joined, and I only knew about Smogon through PS. I thought Bulba was strictly a Pokemon encyclopedia and that Serebii was strictly Pokemon news. I found here through strolling about alternate PS servers, and joining the Battle Server for a bit. I didn't really like the Smogon forums because I don't know much about competitive battling, so I joined PC in hopes of a more relaxed atmosphere.

Looks like I got what I wanted. It also looks like I'm staying for some time. :3

First forum I found, nice enough, no reason to go elsewhere. Still the same, though with an added factor of being around for a decade so why bother uprooting or whatever.

The fact that you're 21 and you started this forum at the age of 11 is freaking crazy.

This is interesting, as I myself was originally from Marriland (and a LONG time ago, Smogon and Serebii, but I wasn't as passionate back then and wasn't very smart). I joined his site in LATE summer 2012 because I liked his videos for a long time, and it was around the time of the English release of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, and he was doing the walkthrough for those games at the time. It was good for the time I was there, surely.

I found this site in August 2013 when I watched the video of a certain supporter here by the name of jdthebud, who posted a Poison Monotype video in Black 2 against Iris that he was doing for the Monotype thread here. Come to think of it though, I may have come across this site before then while I was Googling stuff, but the above circumstance was when I really came. So yes, when I first joined it was for the Monotype Challenge, but I eventually opened up to other areas (most notably the Trade Corner which I became a primary member of early this year, but i've since gravitated to challenges again but I still hang out in the Trade Corner chat).

I do still post on Marriland, but not as much as I was throughout most of 2013. And as a primary challenger that's where over half my activity there is, and sometimes their PokéCasual Clubs forum. I don't feel like there's enough that's easily as accessible there compared to here, same with people - there are some nice people still there but a lot of people have since gone it feels like. So i'm quite happy here!

How did you join the site when you were 11 under COPA?

If I remember correctly PC didn't start enforcing COPPA until just over a year ago or so. It was fairly normal to see users around the age of 11 or 12 around here and sadly many of them had to be banned once we started cracking down on it.

Like many others, PokéCommunity was the first forum that I had ever joined (which was six to seven years ago; can't exactly remember what my old account name was, unfortunately). I got here so that I could download some resources for my ROM hack and get help, but eventually, I wound up giving up on it, and forgot about this place. Then, I hopped onto other forums and began hanging around them. As for PC, I've only lurked.

Fast-forward a few years, I've created another profile, which, I suppose, would be this one, but unfortunately, I still kept lurking; haven't posted anywhere all that much. Later, in August 2013, I put some effort into changing that and got myself sort of active, which eventually kept rising, and now here I am.

I've been to plenty of other Pokémon forums before, but if you ask me, nothing could ever compare to this one.

will have been here half my life next year wtf

yeah that. there were a lot of hella young people around. i mean the oldest member i knew of back then other than steve was like maybe seventeen??? idk. the community as a whole was wayyyy younger then. jake was admin at 13 iirc... don't think erica and sammi and catdog and kaga were much older when they first became staff? we had mods even in 2010 who should have been banned under coppa oops

Googled "Pokemon forum" and PC was the first result. The rest was history. :)

I tried using other Pokemon websites, like Bulbagarden...but they didn't have that friendly environment that I was looking for. PC has that friendly environment that makes me stay.

When I was in year 7 back in 2009 I thought of joining a forum. I literally googled "Pokemon forum" and Pokecommunity was the first result that came up. Alas, five years later I'm still here haha.

Like most above I google and found this place and it took my forum virginity away.
Funny though, I used to be in a phase where I'd join new forums every week or so (god know why), I've stayed long in other places, became mod and admins in various large forums like PC, quit forums all together and yet this is the one I keep coming back to. There's a particular vibe here and the people here, even though I don't know a lot of people nor have I talked to everyone, it just makes me really happy to be here.

I joined a bunch of other forums before PC. Those include SPPf, BMGf, GTS+, PE2k and a lot more. I used to hang out a lot at SPPf, while BMGf, I couldn't even stay without getting bored in a few months. Same goes to PC back at 2009, but it was more of a connectivity issue on my side, so I couldn't hang out a lot. The other forums, I lingered for a while before eventually getting bored of them.

But eh, April 2014, after coming back from a Pokemon hiatus and lurking all over the old forums I've registered at for a few months, I found PC to be the friendliest forum amongst the others. SPPf and BMGf doesn't seem to have that charm, even after I made more friends during my stay there. And so I'm here to stay.
