Casual Archipelago (Complete)

I have updated YAMLs for Doom 2 and Sonic Adventure 2. My SC2 and Doom 1 YAMLs are the same but are still included in this folder.

Tested out my games tonight, and I'm happy to say The Messenger, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and thankfully Metroid Prime worked perfectly, managed to connect to the test server, and collect a few items in Messenger/BRC.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like SotN is cooperating? I think I'm having issues patching the file for the game, I'm being given this:

Whether this is an issue on my end, your end, or Archipelago's end I'm not sure, but I figured mentioning it would be helpful information for at least someone. I'm thinking if it's not something as simple as "swap A with B" on our end then I can ask around on their Discord for help and see if anything comes up. I don't really want to just drop it and go with Circle of the Moon, I'm really excited to try this out with SotN specifically, but I'll consider CotM a backup. Archipelago needs more Castlevania!

Anyways, happy to report that I honestly got a lot less errors and confusion than I was expecting to!

Hm. Best guess: Did you put sotn.apworld in Archipelago/lib/worlds? (Make sure it is not in Archipelago/custom_worlds.) Barring that, try the Discord. Finds the proper thread for it in future-game-design > Castlevania Symphony of the Night, if you have not been by there already. Could also search "sotn" in that Discord, rather than scrolling through all the threads. Ought to hit a search result in there soon enough.

Edit: I might have to make some YAML changes, my games might be... too easy? But that's quick and easy anyways. Really just glad everything is running properly.

One thing I'd like to change that I didn't notice before was that my ALttP lable is set to "Alex Foxes" when I should have named it 'Alex Fox LtP'. Going to do a test run of that later today to see how the new settings work.
 
I have a new set of YAML tweaks. With levels not resetting on death, I'm confident on being able to beat the Doom games on UV, and I also added Keysanity to Sonic Adventure 2 to get some more checks available for that game. Every one of my games is working and the only thing I need to do now is set up my tracker for SA2. (EDIT: Tracker set up!)

Devalue, could you give me my other four Chaos Emeralds in the Test Server? I want to test to see what happens when I get them in the main Archipelago.

(Alternatively, if you can't, one's in the fourth dungeon of Alex's Zelda 1, and two more are in Setsuna's Castlevania and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I don't know where the White Chaos Emerald is yet, though.)

And with that, I'm done testing. I've already released all my SC2 and Doom 1/2 items, so I'll do the same with my last game. I'll also test Boss Rush on a non-Archipelago save tonight (EDIT: Tomorrow, I need time to unlock it on this device) to make sure I'm still skilled enough to complete my goal, and assuming I am, there will be no further YAML tweaks.

Did some very slight edits to my YAMLs, just turned SotN from normal to hard and changed a little bit of progression in Prime. Figured it was best to just do some small tweaks, cause after some thinking the games probably seemed too easy on the test server just with how much stuff got released before I even got around to testing my games. Should be fully good to start the proper thing with these YAMLs.

Edit: I'm dumb and haven't changed the 50 and 100 Time Shards being local or not in The Messenger, I just re-included the exact same old YAML with the same problem ughhhhhh

Sorry it took a bit longer to test than I'd have liked, I had a REALLY bad headache that lasted most of yesterday and I didn't feel like trying to add anything on top of that. But I've since tested ALttP and found it working well, with the weird exception of some entrences not de-coupling for whatever reason. Not sure if I messed up a setting or what lol.

But I've since tested ALttP and found it working well, with the weird exception of some entrences not de-coupling for whatever reason. Not sure if I messed up a setting or what lol.
Has not watched an insanity entrance shuffle in a while. Might dead-end on places with a single entrance, such as shops, most fairy fountains, and most homes.

Created a second test server with the updated YAMLs. Mostly made it in case anyone wants a taste of their new settings.

Figured Alex Fox LtP was a typo. Added a second 't' in there. Also decided on PoryKid MLSaga. Avoids using an '&' (which it may or may not accept).

Continues to accept new YAMLs and changes to them, of course.

Has not watched an insanity entrance shuffle in a while. Might dead-end on places with a single entrance, such as shops, most fairy fountains, and most homes.

Everything works great for me! Mainly just wanted to make sure I fully understood how to load and connect SotN and Prime so I wouldn't have any issues doing so when we get started proper. I had another look over my YAMLs to make absolutely sure of the settings I wanted, and this is the last time I'm gonna send new ones to you I promise!

My only concern is that I selected a random starting beam for Prime (since there are four different beam types you unlock and switch between as you play) and ended up getting the Ice Beam for both of these. I'm gonna assume it's me just hitting the same 1-in-4 chance twice in a row, since I double-checked the YAML and there doesn't seem to be anything specifically linked to the Ice Beam. Hoping to get one of the others in the proper server, but really, I'm not gonna be upset if I start Ice again, just a little confused.

Thanks again for hosting this, especially putting up with me goin' through all this. It's been nice so far, I'm really excited.

I ran into a bug with monster randomization in Doom 2 where some larger monsters like Mancubi got stuck in places that are too small for them. I've disabled monster randomization in both Doom YAMLs. Apart from that, no issues and I'm ready to play starting tomorrow!

Are you using the same version of Final Fantasy 12 as last Archipelago? (Updated the mod to 0.4.2 on September 22. Wanted to be sure to use the right one. Grabs the 0.4.2 version easily enough.)

Edit: Tried generating a game with the new APworld. Failed and said to fix the YAML. Answers that question. Kept the old APworld, fortunately.

Some useful commands:
  • !hint <item_name>: Tells you where one of your items is. Receives 1 hint (or hint_location) for every 10% of checks you complete in your game.
  • !hint_location <location>: Tells you what is at a location in your game.
  • !missing: Lists all the checks you have not gotten. Recommends using this if you are stuck. May be able to identify a place you missed.
  • !release: Sends out all the items in your game. Warning: Cannot undo this command. Recommends waiting until you complete your goal to do this, at minimum.
  • !remaining: Lists all the remaining items still hiding in your game, but not where. Becomes available when you complete your goal.
  • !collect: Disabled.

Also, @Setsuna: Could not add Outfit (Bel - Summer) to the starting inventory due to not being an item. Changed it to Winter. Looked for a Summer in the spoiler log and found none. Shrugs.
