Yes, my family has always celebrated Christmas. It's a huge deal for my loved ones and I.
In my house we erect a live Christmas tree from December until Candlemas, and decorate it with lights and baubles. I am building myself an ornament collection, and recently added pictures of my late pets as ornaments. In addition to the scent of the pine and glow of the tree lights, candles are also often lit at my place and sometimes we burn frankincense and myrrh in the incense holder.
I keep the music of traditional Christmas carols playing in the background at home or in the car during the month too. I will also watch movies with both of my parents during the holidays. While I would prefer to see new takes on Christmas stories, my mom thinks it's the end of the world if everybody doesn't watch A Christmas Carol for the billionth time, so Scrooge it will be.
I try to also not to forget the message of universal love for humankind that this holiday is supposed to be a reminder of, and will get more contemplative at this time. This year I chose a cancer-related cause to donate to honor friends and family who suffered this disease this year. And on the Sunday before Christmas I will go to church to hear the service, and my aunt and uncle who are singing the cantata on the choir.
Something that I also take interest in at this time of year is learning about holiday traditions and beliefs that exist elsewhere in the world. Lately I have been reading about Father Frost the Snow maiden, the Yule cat, Befana, the Yule lads.
Lastly on Christmas eve this year I plan to visit extended family members, exchanging gifts and on Christmas day my more immediate family will be with me at home, opening their gifts and I will cook a big feast :)
