Christmas

Christmas is an annual winter holiday most commonly celebrated on Dec. 25, with "Christmas Eve" commonly being celebrated the day before, Dec. 24, as well. Do you celebrate Christmas (or other celebrations held around this time of year such as Hanukkah or Kwanzaa)? If so, how do you celebrate?

Yes, my family has always celebrated Christmas. It's a huge deal for my loved ones and I.

In my house we erect a live Christmas tree from December until Candlemas, and decorate it with lights and baubles. I am building myself an ornament collection, and recently added pictures of my late pets as ornaments. In addition to the scent of the pine and glow of the tree lights, candles are also often lit at my place and sometimes we burn frankincense and myrrh in the incense holder.

I keep the music of traditional Christmas carols playing in the background at home or in the car during the month too. I will also watch movies with both of my parents during the holidays. While I would prefer to see new takes on Christmas stories, my mom thinks it's the end of the world if everybody doesn't watch A Christmas Carol for the billionth time, so Scrooge it will be.

I try to also not to forget the message of universal love for humankind that this holiday is supposed to be a reminder of, and will get more contemplative at this time. This year I chose a cancer-related cause to donate to honor friends and family who suffered this disease this year. And on the Sunday before Christmas I will go to church to hear the service, and my aunt and uncle who are singing the cantata on the choir.

Something that I also take interest in at this time of year is learning about holiday traditions and beliefs that exist elsewhere in the world. Lately I have been reading about Father Frost the Snow maiden, the Yule cat, Befana, the Yule lads.

Lastly on Christmas eve this year I plan to visit extended family members, exchanging gifts and on Christmas day my more immediate family will be with me at home, opening their gifts and I will cook a big feast :)

I genuinely prefer the build up to Christmas over the actual holiday. There's a charming atmosphere that the world doesn't have otherwise.

Also my oldest brother visits for the month and I like having the company.

I used to, but I've grown out of it. I haven't even put up any sort of tree or decorations in close to a decade. Dinner that day usually comes from Denny's since it's the only restaurant around that's actually open that day.

I've largely moved on to celebrating "National Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Appreciation Day" on December 25th instead.

Yes, it's a pretty big deal. Usually we celebrate with family gatherings both on the 24th and also the 25th. Usually because you get to see both sides of the whole family. There's a lot of food lol. I used to enjoy those moments, now way less.
I like decorations and all the build up for Christmas, even tho the snow/cozy feeling is usually missing lol

Petition to change this thread title to Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa

I'm Jewish so I celebrate Hanukkah

I celebrate Christmas as the Winter Solstice. The winter is my favorite time of the year so needless to say this is a time of the year I enjoy celebrating! I love decorating trees (I have a lot of them, most themed lol) and I love putting up lights (in areas that are easy to put up I mean) and I love Christmas sweets like gingerbread cookies and candy canes!

I celebrate two Christmases! Aside from the 25th, my family is Ukrainian/Russian and thus we celebrate Orthodox Christmas in January as well. Christmas is my absolute favourite! This year I'm blessed to be spending the holiday in Seoul! It is so incredibly beautiful here and I couldn't be happier.

I hope everyone has a very merry Christmas!! <3

Merry Christmas to all you fellow mortals!

My parents hailing from Europe celebrated on Christmas Eve, while in Australia where I grew up it was more a Christmas day affair.

I am abroad now and only recently moved so going to the other side of the planet wasn't on the cards. I gave my parents a call yesterday however. Making some tastier-than-usual meals with Sheep during the days.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I popped in to say it to a few people previously but I just wanted to say that like, publicly? I hope everyone's had/been having a great holiday season!

I'm someone who's always celebrated on Christmas Eve, we'll have some sort of family get-together, open presents after eating, and then go our separate ways. We'll then have a smaller more private gift exchange after most of the family's left (It used to just be me and my parents, but since I moved out it's been me, my bf, his sister, and their parents) and that smaller exchange is usually my favourite part. I don't get along with my family besides my parents (and aunt and uncle who I don't get to see often) so I usually dread the "normal" family gathering for the holidays, and with how big my bf's family is, the "normal" family gatherings on his side are big parties full of people who I mostly don't recognize or know the names of, and don't feel comfortable opening up to.

This specific Christmas has been nice because I felt like I could be more comfortable and at least come out of my shell a little bit, something I've been trying harder to do this year, so along with some really nice gifts like a great blanket and a big tumbler to enable my iced coffee addiction, I've been really thankful for the holidays this year.

I don't really do much for Christmas... just a day for me to be taking it easy.
It's usually just me and my cat hanging out together =P

One of my siblings or parents tends to swing by on the first Christmas day though, but we don't really do anything special, just like eat Christmas cookies and chat for an hour or two.

Growing up, my family celebrated Christmas, but these days, I don't really observe it in the traditional sense. I don't put up a tree or decorate, though I might listen to some holiday music. I do still give gifts—mostly to my younger nieces and nephews—so it's not like I'm a total Scrooge or anything.
