    Welcome to the showdown of all showdowns. Where the highest echelons and biggest names in DJ history have collected. The hottest acts of Team Magma collides with the coolest cats of Team Aqua will be competing for the gold medal in our DJ Battle event of the Kalos Olympics!


    Event Information

    In this event, you will be coming up with your own 'setlist' of 5 songs per round. For each round, there will be 5 themes given, in which you must pick a song that fits each one. Themes could include things such as:
    • A music genre (metal, pop, rock, etc.). These will generally be quite large genres, to try and make it as easy as possible for you to pick/find something
    • Songs from a game/movie/musical etc.
    • Songs from a certain decade (50s, 90s, 00s, etc.)
    You will then face someone else head-to-head, each playing your song for the theme. People will then upvote your song if they like it or not. The winner is the person who gets the most upvotes throughout the WHOLE ROUND. This will continue until we end up with a grand final of the last two standing.

    As there could potentially be quite a few submissions, this will be single elimination (once you are out, you are out entirely).

    Submitting your setlists

    I will be posting 5 rounds' worth of themes (I think this should suffice) at the beginning of the GT. Be advised that if I have more participants than that, I'll be putting some more up. I will potentially be repeating some themes more than once, to make sure there's enough opportunity for everyone to be able to pick something every time, as I'm aware not everyone listens to the same amount/variety of music. Songs are to be submitted via this form (currently goes up to just Round 3, will see how event goes before doing the others).

    You will then need to get your forms to me by the end of Wednesday 17th July UTC+1 (so 00:00 UTC+1/19;00 EST). This will allow me to use Thursday to generate the brackets and such.

    This will be hosted across the forums, Discord server and our QueUp room, so you only have to be present in one of those areas to take part!

    Voting and how it works

    To give everyone across all platforms of PokéCommunity a chance to vote, I will be doing the following for voting:
    • Posting the rounds in this thread, for people that want to vote via the forum a place to do so.
    • Posting the rounds in a channel on the Discord server, using reaction emojis to determine votes.
    Please only vote using ONE of these each time. For example, if you voted on the forum then please do not then vote in the Discord server. This is to try and not skew results obviously. You don't have to stick to one method throughout the whole event, so if for Round 1 you voted on the forums but for Round 2 you want to vote on Discord, that's OK.

    For QueUp, I will likely be hosting the finals and/or semi-finals or something in the room. We won't vote in there I reckon, but just something a little fun for people! I will need to see how things go first, but will confirm this ASAP.

    Points

    Points will be allocated as follows:
    1st Place - Gold Medal - 30 Points
    2nd Place - Silver Medal - 20 Points
    3rd Place - Bronze Medal - 10 Points

    Participation points - 10 Points

    These might seem a little small, but this is mostly because all of the effort is really put in at the beginning when people submit their songs. I'd rather reward participation more!

    Rounds & Themes

    The Rounds and their respective themes will be posted below.

    Songs are to be submitted via this Google Form

    If these rounds are not enough, I will then mix and match using these themes below. For now, we will do just the first 3 rounds and see how numbers are from there.

    Round 1 Themes

    1. A song from the 70s
    2. A song from the 80s
    3. A song from the 90s
    4. A song from the 00s
    5. A song from 2010 onwards

    Round 2 Themes

    1. A song from a movie
    2. A song from a video game
    3. A song from a musical
    4. A song from a TV show
    5. A song from an anime

    Round 3 Themes

    1. A metal song
    2. A pop song
    3. A rock song
    4. An EDM song (dubstep, future bass, synthwave, other electronic genres)
    5. Freestyle - a song of your choice from any genre

    I sent these yesterday and didn't write anything, just in case I'd change my mind on some of those songs... but I still can't come up with anything that's substantially better and it's night time now, so... yeah, consider it sent ♥
     

    DJ Battles have now officially started!


    With the music now submitted, the battles can finally commence!

    We will be doing a standard single elimination format. This does mean the bracket has generated with 3 byes. I have allocated one to each team and the remaining one randomly. Once these have ironed out, it should then be 1v1s all the way through to the end!

    Because of the amount of people that entered and the time constraints given, we will be voting for a full round in 23 hours (apart from the grand finals). It will start out as a lot, but remember the amount of people then halves, so shouldn't be as bad as we progress! The schedule there is as follows:
    • Round 1 pt. 1 - 12:00 UTC+1 Saturday 20th July - 11:00 UTC+1 Sunday 21st July
    • Round 1 pt. 2 - 12:00 UTC+1 Sunday 21st July - 11:00 UTC+1 Monday 21st July
    • Round 2 - 12:00 UTC+1 Monday 21st July - 11:00 UTC+1 Tuesday 22nd July
    • Round 3 - 12:00 UTC+1 Tuesday 22nd July - 11:00 UTC+1 Wednesday 23rd July
    • Semi-finals - 12:00 UTC+1 Wednesday 23rd July - 11:00 UTC+1 Thursday 24th July
    • Grand finals - 12:00 UTC+1 Thursday 24th July - 00:00 UTC+1 Saturday 27th July (including showcasing the playlists in our QueUp room on Friday 26th July!)
    A few things about the voting process:
    • ALL GT participants can vote, even if you did not submit any songs
    • Playlists will be anonymous, please do not tell anyone which one is yours
    • Only vote either here or on Discord
    • If a match features your playlist, please do NOT vote in the match AT ALL
    So without further adieu, let's get the Round 1 bracket up! This will be small as this is determining who faces the players who got a Bye. Each song will have a YouTube link which you can access by clicking the song name.
