Article: Dude, where’s my Game Corner?

Dude, where’s my Game Corner?

Dude, where’s my Game Corner?

There’s no gambling minigame nor Game Corner to be found in BDSP! We explore the history of the casino in main series Pokémon titles, and why it’s no longer around.

An updated piece I wrote an age ago, but now it's continued into LGPE and of course BDSP! The Game Corner is dead and will remain dead, sadly - a pity as the slot machine game here was the best in the series imo. Check the article for all the info!

I do like the remix at least!

I will always treasure memories of DPPt slot machines. I didn't know what I was doing half the time yet I kept getting the Clefairy and the moon thing. It was pretty addictive, but I'd rather focus on that than using irl currency and whatnot. Anyway, I personally don't mind that they removed it.

It sucks that the Game Corner is gone.
I understand why, but I really don't think it's that big of an issue.

I'd like to believe children can understand the different between a slot machine where you can win Pokemon, and a slot machine in real-life designed to steal ya money.

It seemed clear enough to me as a kid, certainly. Heck, there were NPCs complaining about losing all their coins. And it ran on a separate currency you could always just buy via the 'main' currency, and no real money involved, like Pokemon Masters!

It's not a big issue, but still sad that an option and avenue of minigames is gone - it's less content at the end of the day.

I'm surprised myself that Gen4 had game corner because the EU doesn't go against gambling. Game corner was fun, addicting? and yet frustrating. I do enjoy voltorb flip as substitute norm for the slot machine. Maybe if they have more non-gambling minigames that would be alright like a mineswiper or sort. Oh well.. I guess gone to the deep

I miss the game corner, but I get why it was removed since it is gambling, at the end of the day. A shame we don't just get one again with a Voltorb Flip game. Oh well!

I agree that more non gambling games could have been added. Though Voltorb Flip is basically minesweeper.....

I'm glad we could just directly buy coins because I was so unlucky at the games there.....

Yep, very sad. I loved The Game Corner as a kid too.

I'm not against the casino mini-games for anyone who likes them, but I've never liked seeing Pokémon as prizes. You're supposed to be a trainer who treats their Pokémon with love, buying them like tools with casino coins was pretty absurd and I'm glad it's gone.

Playing the casino games if you think they're fun is ok, but I never found them fun, I just had to waste time playing them to get X Pokémon or X TM I couldn't obtain otherwise, and I don't think that was good. It's like locking certain Pokémon or TMs behind Contests or whatever stuff that have nothing to do with the actual Pokémon gameplay.

I know why they removed the Game Corner, but it's a shame. Sure, it's not something I poured hundreds of hours into, but it's a fun little diversion, and any kind of mini game like that adds something to the world and gameplay, I think.

The Game Corner sucked anyway. It was very hard to win the games there, and it was practically real gambling where you had to wager your coins. It could definitely get children addicted to gambling in the future, so I understand why they removed it. Good on them! I say the Game Corner should return, but instead of being a casino, it would be something like an arcade where you can play several types of mini-games with your Pokémon. That would be cool and much better.

I never minded the Game Corner personally. (I actually got really good at stopping the slot machines on triple 7's, I even managed to get a Porygon that way once)
But I'd prefer nothing to that dumpster fire garbage tier Minesweeper-at-home replacement game Voltorb Flip.
And yes, I actually like Minesweeper, and am pretty alright at it to boot. Voltorb Flip just sucks lol.

I really like the multiple mini-game idea though, it kinda reminds me of something you'd see in a carnival.
