hahaha you stay classy pc

I'm gonna talk about something far more undeniably important than women. Music! What else, other than what you listed there, do you listen to? Does your music taste span a wider range of genres, and if not, are you open-minded towards other genres? Do you use any sort of music websites like last.fm or RYM? Do you tend to dig into new music, i.e. go looking for it, or do you tend to play it safe and listen to what comes to you easily?

I'm not asking for your favourite song here, but what's one song that I have to listen to? As in what's one song where you were sat there listening to it, thinking "I think people need to hear this for [reason]"? What is that reason and why is it important to you?

Also definitely far more important than women - this one'll be interesting since I don't usually think about what it'd be like from a non-staff perspective - what makes a good moderator?

Haha thanks for the change of subject. Although I'm a huge fan of alternative rock and indie rock, I'm a lover of all kinds of music. By looking at my iPod alone, you can tell that I'm not biased towards a specific genre: old school rock (AC/DC, Journey, Beastie Boys, Guns & Roses), rap (Eminem, Jay Z, Kanye West, Childish Gambino), pop (Katy Perry, Neon Trees, Lady Gaga, Ellie Goulding), country (Hunter Hayes, Thomas Rhett, Phillip Phillips), instrumental (Lindsey Stirling, 2CELLOS) and so on. Like you asked, yes, I'm very open-minded when it comes to my music; I don't really care about the stigma that might surround a specific genre or artist, if they're good then they're going on my iPod. The only genre I can say I just honestly can't get into is metal. I'm not a huge fan of the style of vocalization nor the rawness of most metal songs. I attempted to get into that genre, but those two points are big turn offs for me.

Because I solely buy physical CD's for my music - meaning I don't use iTunes to just buy single songs; I like to have the full album to get the full experience or message that's being sent - I do use two music apps: Spotify and Last.fm. Those are the two sources that I use to find new music. I like Spotify's "Discover" feature because it helps me find a lot of new and similar artists to what I like, as well as it giving me a quick, straight-up discography of the artists in question. Similar to Spotify, I use Last.fm for it's "similar artists" feature. Usually when I like an artist I'll type in Google say, "Arctic Monkey similar artists" and Last.fm will always come up first, giving me a pretty accurate account of which artists have a very high tendency to sound similar to them or not. I really like that, and thus is why I use it!

Good question! I've got three that come to mind. If you click the artist/song title, it will bring you directly to a video and it's lyrics so you can hear the song for yourself.

Eminem - Mockingbird: Love him or hate him, people need to realize that this man is a lyrical genius. The way he just so easily and smoothly lines up lyrics is mind-boggling, which is why I own every single album of his in physical copy. Although there are many songs to pick from, I've always loved the message of Mockingbird. It's a song where Marshal sits down with his daughter Hayley and has a one-on-one with her and tries to tell her that he's trying to provide the best for her even through the chaos of there life. It's really a beautiful piece and gives a lot of insight into Eminem's personal life.

Hedley - Anything: On a more upbeat note, I absolutely love this song and is a must here for everyone. I think a lot of people in this crazy world do things that they otherwise don't want to do because of the possibility of failure or disapproval. However, this song takes all that and just gives the world the biggest middle finger possible. "Anything" - as you might have already guessed by now - is an anthem that cries out for people to just do what your heart wants and strive towards what you are passionate about it. Which, I wholeheartedly agree with.

Michael Franti - I'm Alive: If you've ever payed real attention to song, the majority of them lean towards losing someone close to them, whether it was on an intimate level or someone like a family member. However, this song takes a different, more positive approach. You know that feeling you get when you've fallen in love with the girl/boy of your dreams and there's nothing in the world that can bring you down? Well multiply that feeling x100 and you've got this song. It's very upbeat, it's got a very positive message, and it's just a song that you can get up and dance to!

There are a lot more songs I could list - listen to Dr. Dre's "I Need A Doctor," as it's a great song about how Eminem is grateful for everything that Dr. Dre has done for him considering he was the one that signed Marshall - but those are the three that I felt like pointing out!

To me personally, there a lot of elements that I think should make up a good moderator. Do I think every moderator here fits the description I'm about to write? No, probably not. But then again, this is just my "ideal version" of a moderator which if I was ever given the chance would be something that I would personally try to oblige by.

The first element of a good moderator would be that they are a very personable person. What I mean by this is that 1.) they don't get a hot head just because they have a blue emblem underneath their username and 2.) that they are very engaging with the constituents of their community. That would include but not be limited to creating events or activities that many people can contribute in while at the same time isolating the least amount of people possible, promoting positive discussions and new ideas to their sub forums to boost activity, as well as just being an approachable person where a user doesn't have to feel afraid to talk them and can easily ask them what's on their mind. Being a leader of numerous elective boards in real life myself, that's at least how I approach my volunteers or members; you can most definitely create a balance between being a good friend to them and still being a person that enforces the rules. It's a tricky, fine line that a leader must follow, but it's definitely doable.

The second part that I would like to point out is being timely with your duties. Essentially, what I'm saying is that if you are assigned a task or promise something to your sub-forum's community, then you should follow through with said task/promise. A moderator is supposed to be an independent user who shouldn't have to be constantly reminded to fulfill their duties. For instance, with respect to a few moderators here who I won't name, if you run an event that promises an emblem at the end of said event, you need to follow through with it. Yes, I understand that real life complications may get in the way of doing this and yes, I know that the emblem system is shotty at best when it comes to handing them out, but the least that the moderator can do is update their community as to what is going on behind the scenes. A simple "Hey guys, the emblems will be rolling out in the next few days (b/c of [insert reason]) so keep an eye out for them!" would easily suffice and appease the participants; like I said in the emblem thread in Community Announcements, it's almost like you're fooling people by not following through with your responsibilities as a moderator, and thus can have a negative and inadvertent effect on your community.

There are other things that I could go into with this - such as being an enforcer of the rules and not letting your emotions get into the way of your duties - but that's the jist of what I personally think makes a "good" moderator.

What is your priority when buying a new game? As in, what is the most important aspect that goes into your decision to purchase it? (New as in a recent release.)

If you could change your username color to any color you want, what would it be?

Furthermore, my heart is still broken from a girl I truly loved, and that happened three years ago. I honestly don't know if I'll ever get over her,

It took me about four years to get over someone, but I finally did it. You will make it. I know you will.

Surprisingly enough, even though I do own a hell of a lot of games (over 100 Xbox 360 games for instance), I very rarely buy newly released games. I'm a stickler when it comes to spending my money, so I've learned to become pretty patient for game prices to drop down. For instance just last week I finally bought Dishonored for about $15, even though it was a game that I was pretty excited for when it initially came out. I think it just helps that because I have such a huge backlog of games to play, I convince myself to play those games first before buying another game because that would realistically just be backlogged as well. Recently though, the only times I've ever made a decision to buy games like the first week they come out is if my friends are going to be playing them as well. That's why for games such as Borderlands 2 and Halo 4, I bought them as soon as I could (as well as regrettably GTA V and Call of Duty Ghosts, which I sold both of them on eBay pretty soon after I had bought them.)

I actually really like the Platinum color I've got. I think because very few members have it, it's almost like our own "elite group," if I'm allowed to say that. Plus, I find that it matches very well with the themes I choose for my avatar/signature which is always good. I'm not a big fan of the Crystal colored tier as I think that color is too bright, but unfortunately the darker blue is being used for moderators. I do hope that HQ will do something about the Silver and Platinum ranks though: the colors are very, very similar and sometimes I get confused whether or not one is one rank or the other. However, I believe they're solving it by adding some kind of banner or userbar like the old supporter system which will help people differentiate each other better (which you probably already know about.)

If I had to change my color though, I would probably go with moderator blue or the admin red. I'm a big fan when it comes to darker colors over lighter colors, so I think both would look good in my opinion. It would take some time getting used to the boldness of the username, but that's doable. I think the SMod colors should just be a tad darker, as sometimes they are straining on the eyes, but that's just something minor that shouldn't raise any cause for concern.

Eh, I hope that's the case. It has been very difficult these last few years, but I'm trying. It's hard to start new relationships with people considering all you are thinking about is this one person, but I'm doing my best to move on. But thank you for the insight - maybe it won't happen any time soon, but one day...hopefully everything will turn for the better.

What Pokemon type do you like to associate yourself the most with?

When you're feeling nervous, what do you do to overcome it?

How do you react to your fave singers/bands suddenly changing sound direction? And how long does it usually take you to get used to the new sound?

I could just go with the easy answer and say my favorite Pokemon Arcanine, but I'll throw a curveball by saying Raichu! I'd like to think he resembles myself a little bit as he's quite lovable and playful, but he also can be a force to be reckoned with. But Arcanine will forever be my favorite pokmeon - just picturing being able to ride him would be a feat to behold.

I turn to my iPod. When I get nervous I tend to listen to strong, powerful songs such as Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and Roy Dalton Jr.'s "Can't Be Touched." I just find that they tend to raise my overall morale. However, it doesn't work all the time. For instance, I actually suffered from too much anxiety with my previous college major (i.e. Nursing) that I ended up changing it. It was hitting that point that whenever I went into the hospitals my entire arm would be overcome with the fear of screwing up that it would shake uncontrollably. My parents weren't too happy that I changed such a promising career, but in the end I know that I made the right choice, considering I'm in a much better place now.

It varies really. Sometime's I'll dig it, but most of the time I'll get upset. I understand why bands change their directions - they want to mix it up a little, I get it. However, at least try to make it good. For instance, the band Bloc Party had two solid albums with "Silent Alarm" and "A Weekend In The City." However, with their third album "Intimacy" they went in a completely different direction - more electronic with unconventional music bits - that ended up ultimately ruining the band. They tried to return to their roots with their fourth album "Four," but I honestly don't think they were able to. A lot of bands have a lot of trouble getting over the "sophomore slump," which is unfortunate considering some bands had really promising careers ahead of them after their debut albums.

are you willing to leak the daily bloggity #100?
Less than 24 hours till the release of it! (; I'll just say, it's been a long time coming for this haha.

What were you like when you were promoted?
Ahhhh, but why spoil next Wednesday's blog entry? (;

Do you have plans to extend the Daily Bloggity into something more?
Hmm, that's a very good question. I'd like to think that it's already pretty evolved into something more than a regular blog. It's become very "community based" now in my opinion: tournaments, interviews, and podcasts are just some of the things I've done that represent this idea. I do have some future projects in the works that will call for more community based action...but I don't want to spoil that entry that's coming out on Friday :x

Sorry! I know that most of my answers are pretty cryptic, but I don't like to give spoilers haha. Here's a picture of a puppy though for your troubles, awwwww look how cute he is! ;D
Spoiler:

Who do you think is the best quarterback in the NFL right now? Which rookie selected in this years draft will make the biggest impact on their respective team, in your opinion?

If someone asked you to suggest three new video games for them to buy, which three would you pick and why? Assume this person has all existing consoles.

You're stranded on an island with one console and a game of your choice. Which console is it, and what is the game?

I'm suddenly curious. Have you ever aspired to become a writer ? Whenever I look at some of your blogs , you really have that writer quality in my opinion.

Ooof... Has this been asked yet?

Crud I hope not. Here goes!

My main question to you is, coming from someone who's been around a long time and has never seen the blog feature be used much, what inspired you to create The Daily Bloggity? Why blog entries? What made you decide to be our 'mad blogger'? Is it ever hard for you to write your daily entry? Like are you chock full of ideas or do you run dry sometimes?

No but seriously I love what you've done with our blog system. It's seriously the greatest thing. It's wonderful to have someone who's so super enthusiastic about making use of the system on a daily bloggity basis!

Thanks for the questions everyone! Keep them coming!

Peyton Manning, hands down. I want to give it to my boy Drew Brees, but the numbers that Peyton produced last year were just staggering. Plus - besides his Super Bowl performance - I think he's finally getting over that playoff hump and is showing people that he actually can play in the cold. I'm still a little peeved that he beat Brees' passing record by 1 yard. I personally think it was rigged in my opinion but eh, it is what it is. Drew Brees though has the best pocket presence in the league, and can make the worst of plays turn into a highlight reel. If you ever watch film of him you'll notice that he seems to always know where the defender is coming from and is very rarely sacked.

As for rookies, I would have to go with Mike Evans with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Considering that Josh McCowan is there starting quarterback at the moment with Mike Glennon as their backup, their going to need playmakers who can catch the ball. They've got Vincent Jackson which is fine, but besides him their really isn't anyone that they can heavily rely on. Considering the height that Mike Evans has, he'll have an edge over defenders and will be a good 1-2 punch alongside Vincent Jackson.

If someone asked you to suggest three new video games for them to buy, which three would you pick and why? Assume this person has all existing consoles.
  • Bioshock
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Assassins Creed II
Bioshock has absolutely one of the best story lines a game can possibly have. The twists and turns it consists of combined with such a unique setting made for a very asthetically pleasing and amazing experience. Super Mario Galaxy has by far one of the best orchestrated soundtracks in a game, and although it followed the same formula of past Mario games it I really just had an overall great experience with that game. Lastly, Assassin's Creed II has one of the best characters in video gaming in Ezio Auditore. His personality reminds me of my own a little bit, and as I am essentially all-Italian, being able to parkour over the rooftops of Venice was incredible to say the least. Definitely my favorite game in the AC series.

You're stranded on an island with one console and a game of your choice. Which console is it, and what is the game?
Assuming that I have Internet connection, I'm going to go with a little bit of shocker called Titanfall for the Xbox One. I know that may seem a little odd, but I'm really enjoying this game and I'm really digging the physics of the game. I would most likely get bored of it after awhile - like any game really - but as this is the game that I've been currently playing for the last few days, I might as well pick that one! Plus, who said I'd have to use the Xbox One for gaming? (; Netflix, Xbox Music, NFL would all be accessible from that, so I would really be occupied in that sense! That should be Microsoft's new slogan: "If you get stranded on a desert island, at leas you'll have all these apps to your disposal!" haha.

I'm suddenly curious. Have you ever aspired to become a writer ? Whenever I look at some of your blogs , you really have that writer quality in my opinion.
First off thank you! I've never really thought that about myself so it's nice to hear that from an opinionated perspective! So by that logic you can probably deduct that no, I've never really thought about becoming a writer. I see this more as a hobby than anything, and personally I don't exactly know if I would enjoy it as much if I did this as a full time job. Also, I could be pulling this right from my arse, but I don't believe it's really the most financially sound of jobs. I did used to draw comics though when I was a kid, if that counts as any consolation prize xD Who knows though! Maybe I'll continue to pursue my current job ambitions and become a writer as a side hobby! Anything's possible if you put your mind to it!

I've always wanted to know, but how come 5pm ET is the designated time for the publishing of your blogs and not another time?
Back in February (?) when I first started doing the Daily Bloggity, I was getting ready in working 2 jobs: one that would run from 7am - 3pm, and the other going from 5:30pm-12am. Thus, I didn't really have the biggest window when it came to producing content for it, and I decided to pick on a time that would maximize the amount of available time that I did have so none of my entries would feel "rushed," so to speak. Although I will admit, some of them actually are rushed haha xD Furthermore, I knew that when I returned to college in the fall that classes would be a hindrance in producing the blog, so I needed a time later in the day that would work for me.

Now one might be asking "but Matt, why don't you just free roam with your blogs and just produce whenever you feel like it?" That's a clever question, but there's quite a simple answer to that. I figured out very early on in my blogging days that blogs weren't really that popular here. They were very rarely looked at in my opinion, and thus didn't attract a lot of activity. So what would be the best way to get people to coming back time and time again? Why, just like how you catch your favorite TV show every week, have a scheduled time to produce content! And that's where the name, the Daily Bloggity, was born. The name itself basically informs the reader that there will be a new blog everyday, and thus at that scheduled point in time will you be able to view it.

That's sort of why I'm pushing for a subscription notification in HQ for blog entries; that way, people who don't have the time to produced content daily don't have to fret about getting readership. People who are subscribed to the user's blog will get an instant notification every time said writer publishes an entry, and thus will boost activity overall in the blog portion of PC.

My main question to you is, coming from someone who's been around a long time and has never seen the blog feature be used much, what inspired you to create The Daily Bloggity? Why blog entries? What made you decide to be our 'mad blogger'? Is it ever hard for you to write your daily entry? Like are you chock full of ideas or do you run dry sometimes?!

It actually started back in my '09 days. I've always considered myself an entertainer of sorts; I like to make people laugh and such, so I needed to find a medium in which people can easily access it, as well as have in a central location that they can keep coming back to. As such, I decided to use the blog section of PC. However, it didn't always look like it does now. It was very...raw, so to speak. If you want a good idea of the history of the Daily Bloggity you can check out an entry I made about it right here!

When it comes to that usertitle "The Mad Blogger" though, it was actually used in conjunction with striking publicity for the blog. When someone reads that, they'll probably wonder "oh hey, this guy probably has a blog" and then go searching for it. Thus, it's just another way to strike more readership. I just remember at the time when I initially created the usertitle I was for some reason thinking about the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, and thus thought it would be a cool idea to mimic title. Plus, you have to admit it is a little crazy that I've been publishing entries for practically 110 days straight (;

And yeah, sometime's it's difficult to write entries. I know definitely when I first started there was a lot of difficulty in sparking new ideas, but now it's not exactly the biggest of issues. Having weekly series definitely helps, as it allots a day given directly for said subject, so it doesn't take much thought in that regard. Usually I just let the ideas come to me - if I try to force out an entry, it just won't really be that fun and will subsequently hinder the overall quality of the piece. I actually keep a little notepad of a planned out list of entries so I have a rough idea as to what I should write about next. If something pops in my head as a good idea for an entry, I'll usually just jot it down and come back to it at some point in time.

How you enjoying the Wii U? :)

It's not bad! I'm actually really enjoying the "HD" aspect of this Nintendo console. I was literally blown away when I popped in Mario Kart 8 and I heard the quality of the soundtrack from it. I haven't had much chance to play other games for it besides that - been playing a bunch of Diablo 3 and Warframe on my Xbox One - but I've got Wind Waker HD to play as well and that game is my alltime favorite game, so I'm super excited to play that.

We should definitely play Mario Kart again though together, that was really fun!

Wups, didn't see these lol.

If you could be any video game character, who would it be and why?
Hm...for me, I'd probably want to be Kratos from the God of War series. Not really because of his powers per say, but moreover for that awesome feeling of being an underdog trying to take down a slew of Gods and Goddesses. Greek Mythology has always fascinated me and I could honestly say it's one of my favorite time periods/subjects to study. Plus, who the hell wouldn't want to play as Kratos and have a chance to fight Hercules? That's a once in a lifetime opportunity my friend.
Describe one incident when you felt like you've hit rock bottom, and how you've managed to climb back up.

This might get a little sappy, but if I had to pick a time it was probably when I lost one of my best friends out of personal spite. I had a really big crush on her when she was in a relationship with this really crummy guy that treated her like crap. When he ended up breaking up with her, she ended up coming to me and I comforted her to try to make her feel better. It really was a sucky period; just seeing her sad made me sad inside, so I did everything I could to help her out and be happy again. However, after trying to console her she ended up taking him back which kindove blew on my end.

Because I'm on my phone right now and don't really feel like telling the long story of it (or rather just typing it) the guy ended up cheating on her and the whole cycle repeated itself. I helped her and she ended up taking him back (and to my knowledge I think they're still together.) I wasn't trying to take advantage of a situation or anything, but I sort of felt used in a way because my feelings were being toyed with (she knew I liked her.) I ended up breaking all contact with her out of rage, and I don't think I've talked to her since then.

It took me roughly about 2 years to get over her. She was probably the first person that I can say I truly "loved" so it was really heart tearing to lose not only a love of mine but a best friend as well. However, it was a really good growing up story and although those things happened I don't regret them on the slightest. I'm now currently in a relationship who I can definitely see as my future wife and I love her to death. So yeah...moral of the story is sometimes it will take awhile to find that diamond in the rough; just need to be resilient is all.
