When was the last time you attended a flea market? Did you buy anything? Do you think flea markets are a healthy, innocent establishment, or are they skeevier than most people are lead to believe?

Been a couple of months since I last visited one! I used to visit a local flea market in Toronto all the time when I was a kid; we used to buy a lot of video games at a special price from our friendly retailer! I think flea markets are generally safe bets, as long as you know what you're getting into.

What is a flea market? Apparently they're a fact of North American life, but I've never fully wrapped my head around the idea.

I went to one last around 5 or 6 months ago and that is where I bought my Nintendo 64 that I love <3 I really enjoy going to them and I wish that there was one closer to where I live because mine is over an hour away D:

I feel like if you've been to one you've been to them all. It just seems like you see the same things over and over. I haven't been to millions or anything, but I've been to a few. Didn't buy anything either since it's mostly nicknacks that don't do anything expect sit there and look pretty and I don't need any of those.

Where else would I have gotten all these books ...?

Not all of them are from what might strictly be called flea markets in English - I'm not sure if more permanent second hand shops would, like they usually would in Swedish, or if it's only temporary markets that count? - but there's definitely more used than new in my shelves.

We don't call them flea markets in the uk if I am not mistaken, a place were people sell their unwanted goods ?. We call them Carboot sales then. No I haven't been to one.

Last time I went to a flea market was back in... uh April? When did the Plasma Storm set come out? Anyways I went with a friend of mine because there aren't any hobby stores in my area anymore, we bought a box of Plasma Storm and split it between us. It was about 10 bucks cheaper than anything online, plus no shipping and handling is always nice. I'd like to go again, but no longer having a job and thus no money puts a damper on things haha.

The only time I've ever heard of the word 'flea market' was in Animal Crossing. So unless you mean that, then no. I have no idea what those are. :(

For those of you who aren't aware of what a Flea Market is, or sometimes called a swap meet here, its a large area with spaces rented out to multiple people/businesses. It could range from families selling unwanted items like a garage sell to actually corporations testing local markets and every thing in between. Most that I have seen are held monthly, the first Saturday of every month for example, but I have seen some held weekly and very rarely daily.

Some people actually make a living selling stuff here, and it'd be cheaper to rent a space in a warehouse or field than it is to rent and maintain a building yourself. If you've ever been to a convention, like Comic-con or the Anime-expo, it's ran similarly as the vendors at those events.

I've been to them a few times. Only thing I ever bought from one is my AR-15 that they were selling for $300 dollars. When I opened it the star chamber and bolt was just pitch black in carbon. It looked like no one ever bothered to clean it before. After taking apart the bolt I found out that the firing pin and cam pin had been removed which made the weapon completely useless.

So yeah, the flea market is great but just remember that you get what you pay for.

I haven't been to a flea market in a year or so, I can't really remember. If you look hard enough, you can find deals though I really like flea markets; $1 DVD's = win.

I've been to a couple with my cousin, but not in a long time. I remember one time, he picked up his GBC there, while I picked up Pokémon Red. We also bought a few shiny cards for pretty cheap, too.

I also remember seeing Ra, Obelisk, and Slifer, the God cards from Yu-Gi-Oh!, at one for 25 cents each, LOL

If we are talking the UK version which is carboot sales then yeah, I've been to a few. Nearly bought a Gameboy Advance with Pokemon Naranja when I was like ten because I had lost my GBA and I thought that Naranja was a real game >< I did buy a tin of Yu-Gi-Oh cards that day, only to find years later when I was looking through old things in my room that they were all literally fake cards. I was a bit of an idiot back then haha.
