Fortunately, that mayor was arrested later executed publically and everyone lived happily

Unfortunately a demon spirit revived the mayor as a rotting zombie and it terrorizes the town.

Fortunately, a lone Samurai roamed into town, and lopped off the zombie mayor's head killing it permanently.

Unfortunately, the demon inside the mayor jumped out and possessed the samurai, pretty much making the situation far worse

Fortunately, the Samurai had travelled from the future and, by killing the mayor, had closed the time loop that both the demon and samurai were in.

Job complete, the samurai, and the demon within, fade to dust, leaving peaceful planes, fertile lands and laughing children.
