Do you like the idea of a future Pokemon game providing a feature that allows you to change the gender of a Pokemon? We got an item that lets us change abilities, this feels like a potential next step.

This would be surprisingly useful to me, since I did say in the Pokemon Genders thread that I don't want male Pokemon that look like they should be female and vice versa. It doesn't feel right naming my Swablu, John and my Kirlia, Gareth. However, I think this would only be useful if the Pokemon was a starter or only appears in the wild like 5% of the time, otherwise you could just wait until one of the desired gender appears.

This would actually come in handy for me, there have been many times when I've wanted to capture a specific gendered Pokemon just for a nickname I had planned for it.

It could be pretty for trainers that really want a specific gender on their Pokémon, but I wouldn't really use this too much. The gender of my Pokémon never bothers me so this feature would be kinda redundant to me. Still, it could be neat.

I totally agree. I think it would be cool to be available, but just not handed out or anything. Maybe it could be a prize at the battle Maison for 200 BP like the Ability Capsule.

I don't know about being able to switch a Pokemon's gender whenever you want, but I wouldn't mind seeing a feature similar to one in Dragon Quest/Warrior Monsters where you can take an egg somewhere and find out what gender it is and have the gender changed then.

I can see that it could be useful but it seems kinda wrong to me. Genders and Natures and such are what makes a Pokemon unique and shouldn't be altered. Love them for who they are or catch or breed more until you find one you want!

It would be handy for breeders, but I think that might cause controversies again? I mean there are the soccer parents who over-protect their children.

I'd rather have a machine where you could swap the player character's gender :] maybe only once every season or so.

It probably woud have some use, if genders of Pokemon actually mattered. But GF made sure, right from the beginning, to show, that they don't matter at all. It might be true, that people, who care more about certain mechanics, like breeding and battling, care more about what gender a certain Pokemon has, but ingame, that mechanic doesn't have any relevance.

What would be funny, though, are Pokemon that could possibly change their gender under certain circumstances, much like some animals irl do. I mean there's Azurill, that has a different gender ration, than its evolution Marill has, which can result in the Pokemon switching genders upon evolution, but I'm not even sure if it was intended, or just an oversight.

Corrected from Generation VI, females remain female, including those Azurill from older generations. However, those Marill/Azumarill that were once female, stays male if there were transported as male Marill/Azumarill.

This Idea will break the system of finding specific genders Pokémon as Pokémon Breeders can find Pokémon of any gender and use it to change its gender to another one but I'm wondering about one thing is this system work on Genderless Pokémon also? ;)

I'm agreeing with most of the comments. Having a feature like this would really eliminate the challenge of searching for a particular gender, nature, ability and stuff like that.

I think a feature like this would come in handy, especially because I'm very picky about the genders of my Pokémon. For example, I'd prefer my Lucario to be a male, while I'd like my Gardevoir to be a female.

As one who has had a gender swapping Marill, I can get why people would find this something to be a thing. But it would still be somewhat impractical and I can't imagine they would make it an item easy to get. Although I do agree that there are certain times where I wish certain Pokémon I get were different genders too.

Hmm... I don't know about that. It would be disrespectful for your Pokémon. You're not simply deciding to change your own gender yourself and I don't think you should be able to do that to a Pokémon either. Besides, some Pokémon, like starters, have only a rare amount of females. Adding a machine would beat the purpose of that.

Great from a progressive standpoint, but from a mechanic standpoint, nah. I breed and shiny hunt a lot so when I have myself a female rare ball Pokemon, let's take Fast Ball Phanpy for example, that's something I worked hard for. I had to get the Apricorns, wait on Kurt to make the Fast Balls, find a female Donphan, catch it (harder than it sounds I mean it's a Donphan and a Fast Ball), transfer it up two generations, start breeding IVs on its offspring, and wait on a good female to turn up from all of that. I know one could argue that it just makes it easier to just find a male and catch it in the Fast Ball and then change its gender, but it's a little undermining for those of us that put in all the work into getting what we want. Natures are also in a similar boat. Again, one could argue it just makes it easier, but Jesus lol. I'm sure there are some other things that it would break like with chain breeding for moves, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Either way, I think it would just be an absolute pain for breeders.

Even if this was a battle only item though, I don't really see the point? Like Attract isn't all that common in-game and I don't think anyone uses it competitively. And then Rivalry and Cute Charm aren't that common either. That's all I can think of that goes off gender in battle though.

Changing the player's gender, on the other hand, would be great. It doesn't affect the gameplay or mechanics so it wouldn't be a huge issue.
