I feel like I will once again be giving out gift cards again this christmas because IDK what to get anyone. I know people don't really enjoy getting these, right?

It depends on the giftcard. If it's like a Visa/Amazon gift card or a store I visit often, sure I'm totally fine with that. If it's for a store I don't really care for, though, then I'm more eh over that. Luckily though the latter only happened a couple times.

im not a fan of gift cards, they are so unimaginative and i instantly feel pressured to spend them because i know ill forget i even have them in about a week. also, their balance is always just conveniently less than the thing you'd actually like to buy, so you're there thinking this wasn't so much of a gift as it was a discount on something i never intended to buy in the first place

completely pointless imo. just give me that amount of money so I can spend it however I like. Don't constrain me to only spend it at one spot. Even if it is for a place I go often, there's still absolutely no reason for it.

Gift cards are good gifts for people you're not close to in any meaningful way. If you're going to get a gift card for someone you're close to then I would get something else with it. Like everyone else said I would just get visa gift cards or amazon ones unless you know there's something or someplace they absolutely love.
