It has a trailer! More details coming as well, and cute artwork as well.

    Here come the longcat memes.

I'm not complaining about good memes on Twitter, but I thought "so trash it's only good for memes now" was Sonic the Hedgehog's thing, not Pokemon's. Being aware of pop culture doesn't automatically make something good or even endearing. Come on Game Freak, you could at least TRY and show that you give a damn about the franchise, rather than resorting to this neverending cynical Kanto-pandering garbage. Just because Masuda is putting a stranglehold on the franchise by refusing to expand the dev team to what it ought to be for a AAA budget title doesn't mean he should be strangling their creativity too, or the quality of the content that is actually going to be in the games. God almighty.

That said, I WILL say that some of those Gigantamax attack animations are impressive, and the kind of thing that I would expect to see from a console Pokemon title. Whilst I don't like acknowledging positives when the overall is so overwhelmingly negative, I will admit that it is very clear where the most time and effort has been spent. But then I remember that shiny Flamethrower move that was firing from off to the left of Charizard's shoulder. Oof.

I'm honestly disappointed with this news. Not because of the Kanto pandering, but I was hoping for more than this. I was hoping for new Pokemon, starter evolutions, new Galarian forms, anything like that. However, we got just a few Gigantamax forms. And if Charizard gets one, then Venusaur and Blastoise should also get one. And if Pikachu, Meowth, and Eevee get Gigantamax forms, then what about their evolutions?

But on the other hand, at least Butterfree gets something this time, after it was denied a Mega Evolution when Beedrill did get one. Oh, and the Meowth line is back. Hopefully the regular ones, because I don't like Alolan Persian.

    longcat meowth longcat meowth!!!

I'm not... really excited about all this Kanto pandering. This is how many gens in a row now? Gen 6 they gave us the Kanto starters basically at the beginning of the game and gave a disproportionate amount of them a mega evolution, gen 7 they gave them Alolan forms, then we got a whole gen 1 remake, and now they're kind of stealing the show again. I try to be positive about all this but if they thought they could point to all this Kanto stuff and say, "look! We aren't forgetting about all the old ones!" while basically ignoring six other generations' worth of Pokemon... well, for so many gens in a row, it doesn't give me faith that they're actually going to cycle the Pokemon now that they've taken out national dex.

Pretty much this. If not for Gigantamax Butterfree, I would be fully bummed by the whole reveal, so there's something that I like, at least.

Oh, and the Meowth line is back. Hopefully the regular ones, because I don't like Alolan Persian.
Seeing from Japanese/Chinese trailers, looks like Kantonian Meowth lines makes a comeback.

A nod to Pikachu's Gen 1 rounder form is welcome and Giant Butterfree should have been it's Mega but I do really like its new form.

All the Kanto pandering is getting tiresome though. How many forms does Charizard have now and its also the Champion's signature Pokemon. Why could Leon's ace Pokemon be the Galar pseudo legendary dragon. Does Galar have one?

If they wanted a Godzilla Pokemon they could have used Tyranitar but it is what it is.

Gigantamaxing is a nice idea but more Kanto focus. The Sinnoh starters could have done with some shine for example. A Gigantamaxed Torterra would have been impressive.

    An underwhelming reveal for me.

A mechanic I feel meh about, and two of the revealed gmax pokemon were already spoiled by the leak.
    Kanto pandering.
    Charizard bias.

I was actually warming up a little to these games before this reveal, but not so much any more.

Oh... I was really excited for today's news and hoped this was just a small part of it. :( I mean, we don't really need to know which Pokémon Gigantamax—shouldn't we be getting starter evolutions by now?

That said, I do love chubby Pika and I'm happy to see Butterfree getting some spotlight!

Chubby Pikachu and Longcat Meowth are my favorite parts of today's reveal. I know some people said the Charizard v Butterfree was supposed to be akin to Godzilla v Mothra but we could've had Tyranitar v Mothrim!! :(
Over six years of Gen 1 pandering is getting old fast.

Longcat Meowth is hilarious but it really does seem like they're always catering to Gen 1 nowadays and I'm tired of it. It's obvious they're profiting of the nostalgia and not putting real effort into making the games good. Only a few things so far have gotten me excited for these games. I want exciting new features that change the gameplay , not milking the old same stuff for six years. Most of the reveals so far have been somewhat underwhelming but these were the most underwhelming honestly.

im close to about giving up hope on any other generation getting any kind of recognition whatsoever. gotta be kanto, because that's where the profit is coming from!

i guess there will likely be exceptions to the rule like zigzagoon but im not holding my breath for any more than that.

I'm absolutely over the moon to discover that Butterfree has a new Gigantamax form! Finally it's getting some deserved recognition! Now, if only Vivillon and Beautifly received Gigantamax forms as well!

Despite this, I am fed up with all of the Kanto pandering that is occurring. I mean by gen 10 nearly all of the 1st generation Pokémon will most likely have some alternate form at this rate. It's ridiculous and to be honest, my enthusiasm for these games has decreased significantly. I feel as though I've been waiting for an announcement to reignite an excitement for this game, and that hasn't happened yet.

I am totally psyched after this update, Charizard looks awesome! My favourite is probably the Butterfree because it reminds me of Mothra.
That Meowth form is totally popping up in the anime and its going to be hilarious!

Yes, there are more Pokemon than Gen 1 but I am still excited nonetheless :)

This is exactly what I feared would happen. A big problem XY faced was that their own gen 6 Pokémon got overshadowed by gen 1 Pokémon because they got the bulk of the Megas. So when Game Freak throws around excuses in regards to Dexit like "it will be fine, every Pokémon will appear again 'eventually,'" and "it will give every Pokémon their chance to shine," but gen 1 is still the only generation they're shining light on, why bother? Kanto-in-France, Kanto-in-Hawaii, now Kanto-in-England. What "variety?" You wanted to make a Mothra reference but went with Butterfree instead of Volcarona simply because you refuse to give non gen 1 Pokémon the time of day? How am I supposed to trust this company to actually care enough to make sure that the missing Pokémon from SwSh make it into a future game that isn't their generational remake? Do I even trust them enough to remake DPP without somehow trying to shift the focus back to the gen 1 Pokémon that exist in Sinnoh with some gen 1 "Sinnoh forms" or such?

Pokémon already had this problem where the games were the same over and over but with a new coat of paint. Tropical paint, mountainous paint, France paint, whatever. But now even the Pokémon are a part of this problem. It's literally "new colored Vulpix," "new colored Ponyta," "Persian with the bloat tool," "bigger Butterfree," "dark Charizard," "sunny Charizard," "giant angry Charizard." So much variety! I'm finding it hard to even care about the games when they refuse to at the very least utilize different Pokémon from the norm.

I'm loving the gen 1 representation and long cat Meowth was exactly what I needed in my life. (。'▽'。)♡
