Goosebumps

I've read all of the original books, and about half of Series 2000. They were a HUGE thing back in Primary School in the mid-90s here, around the time the TV series was airing, and before Harry Potter became the only series any child would admit to reading.

never read the books, never seen the tv series. they interested me when i saw the covers, but i never got around to reading them. scary stories aren't really my thing anyway.

I was into those books a long time ago, and when I saw the movie recently I still understood most of the references.

I was a huge fan of the series. Still have all my books somewhere downstairs. I remember sitting in the back of the bookstore in the mall deciding between a few to have my parents buy for me every time we went.

GOOSEBUMPS WERE MY SHIT BACK IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

They're actually kind of hilarious - almost scary but not really, even when I read them as a kid. I also really liked the Night of the Living Dummies ones, and I absolutely picked the books depending on how scary the cover art was. Those vacant dummy eyes haunted me

Spoiler:

I had dozens of them - just did a quick Google search and apparently they're still writing more?? Are they still written by RL Stine? I think I only read the original series.

This is not that relevant but one of the things I remember is how short the chapters are, and it was kind of funny because at the end of every chapter they try to hype it up and seem like something climactic is about to happen, but nothing big really happens until you're like 70% into the book. Each chapter is literally like 2-3 pages long, so they were always just an emotional rollercoaster of "oH something big is going to happen", quickly followed by "just kidding he was never in any danger" every few pages, and repeat (until the real big thing happens).

i love goosebumps. the books are awesome and i have about 6 or 7 of them probably on my bookshelf. some are repeats haha, but i still like them a lot. the tv show was a..train wreck. they really tried but..some of the episodes were just not good. one of the episodes i remember the most though is stay out of the basement. we used to have that on VHS before it got ruined by getting mold all over it by staying in the shed too long. i'm still bitter over that.

i would totally be willing to read all the books though someday, like..the whole entire series, not just the main one. i've read a lot of the books in the main series but don't own a lot, but it's alright. i also used to have this pretty rare goosebumps collectors book thing that when i opened it, it screamed. idk what happened to it but i'm determined to buy it and own it again.

I used to be something of a collector when I was younger; I had a fair few of the books, or at the very least i'd rent them from my school's library.

I think I was pretty much the only kid who actually preferred the books to the TV shows..
