Smartphones are pretty ubiquitous in 2016, but I recently had a thought about calls on a phone in particular. I was purchasing headphones the other day and I realized I turned away from good options simply cause they didn't have an in-line microphone. I call people a lot, but I absolutely hate having to put the phone next to my ear for many reasons. That got me curious as to how other people like to talk over the phone.

So what about you guys? Do you prefer to talk on the phone the natural way, or with headphones with or without a mic?

I usually talk on the phone the usual way. I don't need a headset or microphone.

The earbuds with a mic are very convenient, especially when I'm on the skytrain/bus - I'm usually listening to music already when I'm commuting and I don't want to take out my phone when it's crowded, so I just need to push the button on the mic to talk if someone's calling me. When I'm not commuting I tend to just answer the phone normally though, not going to fish out a pair of earbuds just to take a call if I'm not already listening to music lol.

Usually I would prefer to talk on the phone natural way, because I'm comfortable with it. However, sometimes I would talk by using earphones when I happen to plug one in my phone.

Usually when I take or make calls on my phone, I put the handset next to my head.

In my car, though, I have it synced up to the car's bluetooth system and I use it hands-free and speak over that system.

Yeah, nowadays I always prefer using a headset. Microphone is obligatory when I buy earphones, because I always roll them up and keep them in my pocket and then pick them out whenever I'm going somewhere, to listen to music or talk to someone. Even when I call someone up at home, I use earphones with a mic. Been thinking of getting a more proper headset with bigger, better headphones to use at home. Mic wouldn't be necessary there, actually.

Yeah, using the handset is better than a microphone for me. Although it's a great idea (and easily convenient), I prefer to let people know that I am actually on the phone instead of people just having to guess.

Although a lot of the time while I'm driving, I do use speaker phone that way both my hands are on the steering wheel. :P

My phone isn't used for talking on, tbh. I use it to only play games. But when I (rarely) do, I don't bother with a headset or anything like that.

I tend to talk the natural way, phone on ear. Sometimes I do use earpuds without mic if I'm outside.

Headset. I don't like having my face grease muddy up my phone's touch screen by pressing my face against it. Also, I can't really hear people as well if I have it on speaker phone and am afraid of moving away from the phone because I don't know the range it can pick up. I pretty much use my bluetooth headset for everything, even my computer.

I talk on the phone the natural way not to mention i'm too poor to buy any extra accessories for it. Only other way would be earphones if I was already listening to music and get a call while listening to music.
