[PokeCommunity.com] I'd just like to say how much of a fan I am of Dhelmise

Like, I understand that this anchor might not be popular by default because there will always be that crew that just isn't all that into "object"-esque Pokemon, but come on.

Dhelmise's entire thing is that its body is seaweed. Like, the anchor isn't even its body, it's the seaweed which is the body which is cool as hell. Like, we've had plenty of plant-esque Pokemon before, but a Pokemon that's just entirely algae is creative genius by Game Freak. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I really like that.

Does anyone else thinks this Pokemon doesn't get enough appreciation? Actually kinda considering trying it out on an in-game team at some point in the future just to see how it is!

Dhelmise is generally accepted to be amazing conceptually, it can't effectively hold itself up in battle as much as I'd want it to and by the time you even have access to it ingame, you've probably have Decidueye, Mimikyu, Alolan Marowak with its thick club, or Gengar/Haunter on your team which far outclass its battle performance. It is a very rare fishing find as well, so expect go through 20-30 magikarp/gyarados/wailers in that one specific fishing spot on Poni Island.

I wonder: do you think Grass/Ghost is a proper typing for it rather than like... Ghost/Steel or something? I understand that the Grass part probably comes from its real body, but a Steel typing better fits its ability.

I watched an episode of the anime that had Dhelmise protecting treasure, which I thought was something fun but could've expanded more. Then there's one time I wrote a fic called The Kahuna and the Cursed Seaweed that features Dhelmise in it. After finished writing that fic, I grew to appreciate it more!

No this isn't advertising my fic

As the staff's resident expert on Grass-types...

Dhelmise is cool but had the nasty predicament of being a hard-to-find late-game mon in a game with Decidueye in it. It's stats don't help it much either. He's a slow, bulky, and physically oriented Ghost/Grass (You know, like Decidueye). Considering he has access to only the more unreliable of the two decent physical Grass attacks (Power Whip) and there just isn't a good Physical Ghost attack that isn't signature to someone else (Spirit Shackle, Shadow Force, Shadow Bone), his offensive output is limited simply because of its types low movepool. Defensively, Ghost/Grass is blatantly awful - Ghost only covers for one of Grass's many weaknesses while stacking on two extra weaknesses of its own in exchange for two immunities.

That said, it is unique in that it essentially has 3 types as far as offense is concerned - the Ability gives it STAB on Steel moves in addition to its natural Grass and Ghost STABs. Combined with his high Attack and low Speed, this means he can often make good use of Gyro Ball if he manages to live long enough to use it. Anchor Shot is a mirror of his Ghost/Grass competitor's signature move, which comes with the amazing utility that is trapping while being a debatably better offensive type than Shackle, but loses out due to Deciduium-Z. Dhelmise also has access to the all-important Rapid Spin, the only Ghost to do so iirc, which comprises the best way to use Dhelmise - an offensive pivot.

Honestly I've never gotten to use a Dhelmise simply due to the late-game nature of the Pokémon. I tend to have full teams of I can by the time I leave Akala - waiting till Poni is just a pain. I considered bringing him on my monograss - aforementioned Steel STAB being the main reason - but I desperately needed something to balance out my weaknesses instead of directly type stacking with my strongest Pokémon.

He's super cool and I love him to death though, like I do most other Grassies.

I love Dhelmise, but I haven't use one so far. Mostly because I either had Decidueye or banned Grass-Types for that run. It would be nice to have one available earlier in the game. I think Grass/Ghost is right typing, as it's haunted seaweed and not haunted anchor. Its signature move Anchor Shot sounds interesting and has nice animation, btw.

I used one in Ultra Moon and iv trained and had a good place in my team (cause i had the fire starter) high attacker and more(i think i also used it in some battle against the strong trainers facility after league where Blue was, don't remember exactly the name)

i also like dhelmise's design but its just unfortunate that i dont remember encountering a wild one. probably why it slipped my mind. let's see if i remember him when i play ultra sun.
just looked it up and i actually like its stats.
