So do you prefer using mons you have never tried before over better mons that you prefer but have already used? As for me:

    Minor JBGD spoilers.
    Spoiler:

I find myself using the same Pokemon for the most part, with a few variations here and there to shake things up. I like having a balanced team, and the games don't really cater to that very often with certain types...fire, electric, psychic, etc. I often find myself gravitating towards my favourites when there is choice available. I'd pick Gyarados over, say, Floatzel if given the choice, but in a future run I might use Floatzel for a change of pace.

At the start of each new generation I will always use a team of Pokemon consisting of ones entirely from that generation however, just to see what the new gen has to offer, regardless of whether or not my old favourites are in the game or not. In my first X run I didn't use my Kanto starter because of this, for example.

I usually pick Pokemon I have never used for new games for a good variety even if the generations I played are different, but considering that Pokemon's movesets change between generations, I don't know whether the Pokemon I chose are overally great especially for the current one.

Also, maybe it's me but I think I reached a point where I'm close to using up all the Grass-types since I usually pick Grass-types in my teams for new games, considering I already used the Oddish line, the Bellsprout line and more.

I try to use new Pokemon each time. But sometime I end up having the same team as before.

It's hard because you have to wait later in the game for new Pokemon..

I tend to use the same Pokémon, mostly, as I've grown to be quite comfortable with them. When trying newer ones, I look for similarities to older Pokémon; if they wind up to be a better performer, then it won't be a problem for me to have them as my team members.

I have a tendency to sometimes use the same Pokemon based on the game, with the Roselia line notably being my most prominent. Sometimes I may change stuff up every now and then.

I like planning teams in advance, and when I do always seem to fall back on using my favorites. I've played AlphaSapphire three times already, each time I used 4/6 of the same Pokémon lol. So yeah, I'm one of the boring ones who uses only their selective few favorites.

I've stuck to only playing through my preferred version once and restarting the other version. With each playthrough, I try to use Pokemon I haven't used before. Sometimes I have to reuse Pokemon if my selection is limited (like fire-types in D/P).

It depends... I'm doing a couple of monotype challenges which make me use pokemon I haven't before but in Alpha Sapphire I am using pokemon that I've never used like Milotic, Awex, Rotom

I always try out and breed pokemon that interest me or I read about and sound interesting but I always keep a team of my old favourites handy for a fun battle.

On my main games, I tend to use a lot of the same Pokemon, if they're available. I like to go for some variety, but there are certain Pokemon that I just love using if available (e.g., Blastoise, Pikachu), so I don't tend to limit myself too much. On the first playthrough, though, I often try to use the Pokemon native to the region (though I sometimes use the same ones--water starter, certain other Pokemon, etc.). I tend to switch it up more on challenge runs/games that aren't my "main" file, but for my main game, I'm a sucker for certain Pokemon. However, I tend to train more than just a six member team, so I can frequently use "new" Pokemon without excluding my favorites.

I'm doing an Egglocke on one of my games with some different Pokemon, and it's fun to use them, but they're still Pokemon I'm interested in using (rather than ones that hold little appeal for whatever reason). I'm hoping to start a series of "variety" runs soon where I switch things up and use Pokemon I've never used before. I've found several fun Pokemon through challenges, so there's definitely value to exploring a bit more, something I'm looking forward to doing more in the future.

I tend to use Lucario when I start a new game for the first time. Aside from that, I tend to pick Pokemon for my team that are always different. I tend to strike a balance between what I like and what I haven't used. It lets be like even more Pokemon that way.

I've got my favorites, and pending if they are available, they'll atleast be EV trained and leveled. But I do usually branch out from my usual Bug, Ghost, Rock, and Steel preference.

I use to play just with my favorites pokemon from the 3th gen. But then black and white forced me to look for a new team. I ended up enjoying more the game ^-^
