March Archipelago 2025 (Complete)

Would you, by any chance, consider turning on manual !collect as an option, whether for this Archipelago or for a future non-competitive Archipelago? Once someone's done with their game (which may not be when they goal if they have checks remaining), it feels like a waste of time to collect items and find out that they're for a game nobody is playing any more.

Since automatic !release is off, this isn't a competitive Archipelago, and I don't plan to release SC2 until I get 100% of checks this time, it won't have any negative impact on my SC2. And it'll save me a lot of time in SC2 in particular since it's one of the most time-consuming Archipelago games.

I'm... confused about this?
If someone is done with their game, why would they continue to collect the remainder of their items unless they know those items are going to be useful for a game somebody is still playing? Besides just for fun/the reason they want to keep playing anyways (which yeah, I have done, but wouldn't it not matter anyways?)
If you aren't planning on releasing SC2 once you have all of the checks anyways, isn't !collect something you wouldn't want to use yourself anyways?
 
Ought to work in a game you generate yourself, yes. For the website-style YAML, try just
sprite: 'madeline'

or

sprite: random

first. Will probably tell you to fix your YAML during generation if something is not formatted right.

Cool, it's awesome to know I can at least customize the sprite rolls in private runs, thanks for all the info Deva!
And I'll do exactly that and see what happens, though I'm imagining it'll just work.

Correct, at least in some games. Might be able to open the chest, but find nothing in other games. Has not really used it much.

That's what I thought. And like I mentioned, I'll pass on sessions where that's encouraged because it goes completely against how I have fun with these, namely, playing my games. I don't want to spend 3 hours pushing myself through a really hard level just to reach an empty or even worse pre-opened chest. Even if what I'm doing it for is useless, I'd still rather have the 'reward' of seeing what it was all for to begin with. And in the event 'it marks the cleared stuff on your tracker so you don't do that', again, I'd much rather be playing my game instead of someone faster clearing it all for me. (this isn't directed at you Deva, just meant as a 'this is my thoughts on this in definitely' that I can link to/copy paste in the event the subject is ever mentioned again, here or elsewhere)

Ran into a problem with the Fire Red YAML. Fusses about trainersanity. Grabbed the newest APWorld (updated two days ago) [Link]. Appears to have changed that setting since you made your YAML. Could you do a new Fire Red YAML?

Cave Story and Emerald work perfectly fine. I'm having troubles with FFV, specifically with opening my .apffvcd file in SNI in order to get the .sfc file I'm supposed to load through BizHawk. Could I ask you to generate that for me and send that over?

Strange. Tried it out quick. Generated the patched ROM. Cannot send the patched ROM over, unfortunately. Constitutes sharing a ROM. Breaks PokeCommunity rules.

This did seem to work though! I'd been opening it with SNI directly and not the client because that's what seemed to have worked before. Thanks! Gonna go test it out just to make sure.

!Collect automatically releases every item from a specific game for the entire multiworld. For example, if I 100%ed Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and did !Collect, that would make every item from Bomb Rush Cyberfunk that I hadn't yet received be released. If I hadn't beaten Starcraft 2, I could skip time-consuming Starcraft 2 checks that used to have Bomb Rush Cyberfunk items, even if I haven't goaled in Starcraft 2.

I think I understand. But then I think I'd personally disagree. Yes, it saves people time, but then I feel like there would be plenty of checks that are just removed and you'd be playing less of the games you signed up to play. I think I have to agree with what Alex said about it earlier, I wouldn't enjoy finding empty checks or feeling like someone is playing my games for me in a way. In other Archipelagos it's seemed like you've been pretty on top of things, but also pretty pushy with getting people to be the same, especially if there are hints or items in their games that you advise them to get. You have more checks than me (just due to playing more games and those games having more checks on average) so it'd feel discouraging for me if anybody hit !collect on a game with 500 or so checks and then I instantly have half of something like Cave Story unlocked and then I'm being pushed to go through everything remaining in it as fast as possible.
Given that it affects the entire multiworld, I think whatever decision is made should be one everyone agrees on.
 
I just finished testing out my 5, and they all worked just fine!
The sprite replacer for ALttP didn't work, but that's okay. I'll mess around with that later, I'm just glad that my games actually work lol.
 
I ran into a visual glitch with Hat in Time that could cause problems, where the Hookshot is invisible if the player doesn't first have an Umbrella. I've updated Hat in Time's YAML to start with an Umbrella to fix that. AFAIK, it doesn't unlock checks, it's just very annoying to not have since you have to homing attack enemies instead of melee them.

I've also modified Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's YAML to guarantee a start with the Inline Skates, and reduce my required REP to win from 1000 to 960, so I don't need to get every single REP piece.

Everything else is the same.

I've never played KHCOM in archipelago before but that doesn't seeeeeem like a significant error and the game sent and received items fine when I tested it so we'll just say it's okay haha.

Anyway, I got everything working and I'm ready to go! :) KH2 needed like every aspect of it updated so it was a nightmare to get running but now it should be good lol. Very glad you set up a test run as this would have been stressful af to do live. @_@

I've invited a friend to join us to get a feel for an archipelago run that isn't just the two of us so don't be surprised if a stranger shows up with a yaml or two, I can vouch for him. :'D
 
Word Game Details
Created three word puzzles. Simply requires you to fill in the blanks to figure out the word. Chose Pokemon-related words from mainline games for all three.

Do not worry if you are bad at figuring these kind of puzzles out.
  1. Allows anyone to guess, including people not in the Archipelago.
  2. Logically requires every letter to solve the puzzle. Deciphers it a little faster with some skill, however.

What do you get for solving these puzzles? Locked 40 items behind each one. Set it to 0 progression balancing. Could be really good or a bunch of nothing.

A quick example: Say that "Horn Drill" is the solution to the first puzzle. Gives you this at the start:

Uses a hyphen to show there is a space between the words. (Will tell you if there is actually a hyphen there.)

Could find something like this: "Word Puzzle P1W2L4: L". Indicates Puzzle 1, Word 2, Letter 4 to be an 'L'. Fills that in below.

_ _ _ _ - _ _ _ L _

Plans to update the puzzles roughly once per day, plus maybe once or twice extra towards the start. Do not worry about announcing what letters you found. (Feel free to do so, however. Could also check the items received for this game in the Archipelago room too.)

Stuck in 6 more "useful" items per puzzle as well.
  • 5 "No [Letter]". Tells you that the specified letter is not present in that puzzle. Chose these letters at random.
  • 1 Category. Hints at what the word is. Falls into one of six categories:
    • Person
    • Pokemon
    • Place
    • Item or Object
    • Move or Ability
    • Other

Ignore any colored Unowns you discover for this game. Serves no purpose other than filler. Do not be surprised if you get an item from this immediately, also. Added in 13 locations to generating it nicer. Should not contain any progression items in that.

Will post the puzzles once the real server goes up.
 
oh man, we got a lot of games in this one huh

will pop my stuff in here but a few things:
- cheesetracker i personally am fine with as long as i can turn all pings off/have it so others can't be using it as a means to prod me. that said, it seems that everyone would need to be involved in the discord in some way? it seems to want you to put in your username and things.
- unless i am super stuck and ask, i don't want pointers etc. about how i can progress in my game or anything. i don't always play and do every check each session and with the amount of games floating around i certainly won't be doing that each time xd.
- ping me for hints and stuff when you've hinted them sure, but i do generally keep an eye on the trackers and things so unless it's starting to pile up and cause a huge issue for like everyone, try to keep reminding me about them to a minimum please <3
- am on team no collect or whatever when we are done. i will say though that i think some games still kinda mark off these checks when they are done? i can't remember fully but obviously the less of that is what i want.
- i'm taking a break from the discord server so ideally being contacted in here would be great, but if it's needed/easier for you then do ping me in the channel on the server
