Hikari, how long have you had your HP, though? They tend to die right after the warranty expires...

I've Acer, the Aspire 4935G. Been using it for the past 4-5 years already, still works, but not really perfectly (its starting to have problems now), the warranty expired 2 years ago.

Although Acer is not really that good of a brand, but meh. It served me well, able to play games like DotA 2 at the lowest settings.

I'm currently still still using my HP which supposedly broke down forever last month, but was revived again by installing a brand new internal drive, so it more or less works like new now. I've had it for 3+ years, but yeah..I agree that HP isn't that great. There are better brands out there. Haven't really tried other brands besides Dell and Apple.

I've been a laptop experimenter, I had a Dell, Toshiba and currently I own an HP. Toshiba is, by far, the best laptop I ever tried so I suggest it to anyone although Dell is also very good. HP are meh but they can do the job good too. It depends on what one wants to do with his laptop though.

HP makes nothing good anymore. They used to make the best printers too, but now they're the absolute worst. My parents bought one last year and it died within a month or two, and I've heard other people say that's not uncommon.

I am most definitely not getting an HP for my next laptop. My current HP laptop, a G60 series, is only 3½ years old, and it's close to failing physically. It heats up excessively and the fans are always on high within a ½-hour usage of the laptop, and there's literally 0 CPU. However, I recently applied compressed air and that seemed to calm it down some but every time I get the thing out it smells like slightly-burnt plastic.

Yeah, dude...the average lifespan of a laptop with regular use is 2-3 years. That's why I didn't get a really expensive one this time. And HPs are lucky to last a year or two. :/

My desktop on the other hand is going strong after six and a half years. B) But I hate sitting at a desk ;-;

I got my mom a Chromebook, and I really hope it lasts.. as much as I wanted to do that for her, putting so much money into something that won't last long is annoying.

My current desktop is two years old, but the one before that, it went for 6 years and only died because a friend was "fixing it" and screwed something up.

Yeah, Macbooks do last for quite a while, but unlike Windows PCs, they're all made to the same specs and made from the same parts so their life expectancy is consistent. My brother has had his MacBook Pro for over 2 years now.

As much as I want a Macbook Pro for my next laptop, everyone I know is calling it a "waste" for me because I plan to go into the IT/computer science profession, but at least it will take some time for it to fail physically.

They are quite well built, but over double the price sometimes really makes the wallet cry.

Plus, Macbooks aren't as perfect as everyone says. They definitely can crash and can get viruses ;-;.

Annoys me when people think they're some kind of perfect thing, they're just a designer label laptop really - not much reason to get one except to say you own one :P.

No.. but..Aapplecare.
Walk in. Fixed.

Not.. wait 2 weeks to ship it out, a week for it to get fixed, and then another week for them to send it back to you, and then when you get it back it still bluescreens or whatever.
A freaking annoyance.

Toshiba is terrible for laptops though I can only speak from one experience. I had a Toshiba laptop during my university years and it didn't take long before it was constantly overheating and shutting down at random intervals. ****ing nightmare would never ever go near a Toshiba again.
