In terms of designs I'd say ORAS introduced some great Megas. We had Mega Camerupt, Mega Altaria, Mega Steelix who are amongst my favourites of them all.

Outside of the Battle Maison I never really bothered too much using some Mega Evolution. Often times when I create a new team, I realize afterwards that I didn't even put a Mega Pokemon on the team. {XD}

I have to admit, that I'm not particularly happy about the fact, that you're pretty much forced to use a Mega Pokemon on your team, especially when battling other trainers...

Well, I just have a feeling that Game Freak found they weren't getting enough Pokémon that were incredibly strong, so they might have wanted to introduce something to shake up the competitive field a lot. As I mentioned in the Fifth Generation forum, that one already introduced a lot of really strong Pokémon, but with these, they went the extra mile.

In future, I'd personally like to see them put together a mega-form for Togekiss, perhaps.

Togekiss is a generation four Pokémon, if I'm not wrong, and if they were to remake Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and introduce new mega-evolutions in them, this would fit in without any trouble at all, if you ask me. I'm sure a lot of us would find ourselves welcoming it.

When it comes to battling and whatnot, Togekiss is already pretty great on its own thanks to its Serene Grace ability (which increases chance of move effects taking place drastically, allowing this Pokémon to take advantage of attacks such as Air Slash); with a little stat increase after transitioning into its mega, Togekiss would be able to perform even better.

As long as it keeps Serene Grace upon Mega evolving, that is. There aren't that many Pokemon that keep their initial Ability, so chances are, Togekiss would lose out on the benefits it. Then again, Slowbro losing Regenerator upon Mega Evolution didn't hinder it too much and maybe Togekiss would get an even better ability then Serene Grace.

I'd like to see Mega Mismagius. Right now it's just sitting at the bottom of competitive play, I think mostly because of the introduction of Mega Evolution, so giving it a mega could help it to shine a bit.

Megas weren't added to boost the competitive metagame. GF doesn't even care about the meta nor do I.

Rather, they were introduced as a way to add evolutions to old pokemon and leave room to add to the pokedex without actually adding slots. Thus, why Kalos introduced around 70 new pokemon without it feeling like that.

Further, it's a way to bridge older generations to the newer games so they feel more relevant.

The mega mechanic was a smart move in this respect and has been largely successful, they won't get rid of it.

I really want to believe that Game Freak has been leaning in the competitive direction for a while now, otherwise they wouldn't have made breeding Pokémon so much easier than ever. Although that is kinda true, along with the small amount of new Pokémon introduced in Kalos, there were the Mega Evolutions.

Togekiss, although it's arguably by far the best of the "pixie" based Pokémon, or whatever you'd put Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Chansey, etc, into, it'd be hard for me to imagine it getting a Mega Evolution. But Audino got one that was part Fairy-type, and with Togekiss' type shifting it's already got enough going for it.

Well we know that in the GameCube games, the Shadow Pokémon had pretty strong moves that (if i'm not mistaken) were always super-effective except against opposing Shadow-types. That was what I recalled... I only played XD Gale of Darkness once so it's been a long time.

And I think that since Mega Evolution was introduced, it's not likely that it'll be removed in the future, but it's not something I could see 100% out of the question in being no more, actually.
Correct with the Shadow Type move being super effective on non-Shadow Pokemon in XD. Wasn't the case in Colosseum however - it was neutral against everything instead and there was only one Shadow-type move to speak of.

I don't see mega evolution being retconned away. It seems to have worked and more were introduced in ORAS, and as said it has become a part of the game mechanics more so than other features that have disappeared the following gen.

New megas - it'd be nice to see Luxray with one that gives it the Dark Type given its design and moveset. and flygon

Shadow Pokemon is definitely a cool concept and I'd love to see it back in a Wii U adventure game. XD did manage that well and yeah, Shadow vs Shadow is also NVE.

I concur that Megas aren't going to be removed since taking them out would be a downgrade. And plus, I want M. Scrafty but Hydreigon, Arcanine and Mightyena would be nice too.

Yeah, Mega-Hydreigon would be nice to see. Its usage has been heavily dropped in competitive scene after introduction of fairy-type, but if it were to gain a mega-evolution form later down the road, this will likely change.

If Hydreigon got a Mega Evolution, it's one I could imagine having a type change. I've stated before that Dragon/Steel would make it quite a bit more interesting, as that would be a lot more worthwhile against those nasty Fairy-types. Even though the Steel-type has lost its resistances to Dark and Ghost, it might make something like that more fun and unique.

Come to think of it, the only Generation V Pokemon to receive a Mega Evolution is Audino. I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation introduced more Megas for Gen V over other generations for a more balanced system. The same applies for Generation VI but I suppose that's the generation Mega Evolution was introduced into.

I actually remember hearing the Deino line were initially going to be Steel-types based on how they were originally going to be designed. It would have been interesting if that was what we got instead of the Dark/Dragon-typed ones we got.

It would be nice if Hydreigon got a Mega that made it not 4x weak to Fairies. The fact that Fairy-types destroy Dragon-types that much makes me really not like them at all...

This

I hope that it does in the near future or whatever. It needs a type change and a new ability, otherwise it won't even be used at all in the future because the addition of new fairies that will come next gen will make it even more useless. Gamefreak hates Hydregion. :<

All the Megas that have been introduced in X and Y and in ORAS have been great! I don't think there is a Mega evolution that I hate, but then theres Slowbro. *-*

One thing I've been wondering for quite a while: what if Pokemon where allowed to have two abilities at the same time? That would clearly make certain Pokemon more broken, then they already are (just imagine Parential Bond+Scrappy Mega Kangaskhan), but could also make certain Pokemon better (e.g. all Pokemon with Levitate as their only ability, or those with a hindering ability like Archen).

That thought has crossed my mind a couple of times before; I feel it would be interesting to see where the change takes us, to say the least.

I'm not sure how GameFreak will take things if they were to incorporate such a thing, but personally, I believe it would be more advantageous if they were to turn all underrated Pokémon (I'm sure they have statistics on these stuff, so it shouldn't be tough for them to identify which ones would belong in that category) into having two abilities.

Of course, it might be easy to imagine legendaries to have dual abilities as well, because... after all, they are legendary Pokémon, haha.

Well we had dual abilities in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (before Gates to Infinity), so that does raise an unusual perception as to this concept. I remember when those stupid Bronzor and Bronzong in Temporal Tower had no weaknesses due to them having both their abilities. But I do know that Game Freak wasn't behind PMD, so that's a different story.

I don't follow Mystery Dungeon as much, so I wasn't precisely aware of this. Though, it does make sense for them to be experimenting with things on spin-off series of games, considering that they are generally not so much popular in comparison to main ones. As I had stated in my previous post, however, I feel dual abilities could definitely work if done right (as in, setting limit on which sort of Pokémon wind up getting them).
