Potential for Pokémon to cross over with one of Nintendo's IPs

Hey it is i, the magnificent Goomba of this forum.

I don't really know a better place to post this, But does anyone else think a crossover between Pokémon and one of Nintendo's other properties like Mario or Zelda has potential?

To be frank, the chances of that happening is quite slim. As from what i have seen, Game Freak seems to go out of their way to avoid referencing anything related to video games that isn't theirs in general in anything Pokémon related things they make. There must be a logical explanation to this.

Recently i have been somewhat of a maniac for crossovers, And i would probably faint of glee if Nintendo announces a Mario and Pokémon crossover game. Heck if Nintendo was okey with having Mario and Ubisoft's Raving Rabbids appear on the same screen, Then why can't Pokémon!?

Also before you say it, Pretend that Super Smash Bros doesn't exist. And yes, They did make Mario and Luigi themed Pokémon cards of Pikachu during the 30th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
Even though Smash Bros is probably the only time Mario, Link or Kirby appeared in the same game as Pikachu...

This might be a little bit too niche now that i think about it.

For the big ones? Very unlikely. I can't ever see a Pokemon x Mario, Pokemon x Zelda ever happening. Pokemon collabs are already rare as it is.

( I don't know how to quote someone.)

A Paper Mario crossover would be quite awesome indeed. But yet again, I really don't see Game Freak wanting to partner up with Nintendo to do a crossover, Especially with the likes of Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi, (Even though both Pokémon and Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi are RPG series. But the latter of which is even more unlikely since Alphadream is no more sadly.)

Nice little mock-up by the way.

It's a fun idea, but highly unlikely.

For quoting, you can just click the Respond button next to their post and then click the Post (shaped like a pencil) button in the bottom to insert that response to your message. Pretty easy once you learn how to do it!

But yeah, sadly, I don't see this happening. It would be a lot of fun to see a major crossover, given how rarely we get something like that as it is. It seems a bit complex to cross over with certain series too, since some of them feel quite different. But I can imagine how awesome it would be to get a Pokémon x Mario Kart crossover - let me ride a kart with Pokemon in them! Their moves/abilities would work so well with the item boxes in the game too. ❤️

It's definitely possible. However, I suspect that there are some Nintendo internal guidelines that prevent these types of crossovers. GFs deadlines probably also interfer with this. If you have to constantly work on a new game to get one out every year, there's little time to do consulting other developers for crossovers; let alone work on one.

Even the crossovers between Nintendo and third party developers are only few and far between.

this probably goes without saying, but i think crossovers are really a matter of working out how both elements can be best represented. that said, im finding it very difficult to imagine how pokemon can fit in something like a mario or a zelda game because the franchises are just so fundamentally different it's just hard to state. pokemon is about monster catching and raising, how does one best represent something like that while simultaneously keeping the feel of a mario game or the action-y feel of a zelda game? maybe an alternate timeline of hyrule where hyrulians owned pokemon to compete against each other to pass the time? this sounds ridiculous, but...it's the only way i can imagine pokemon having a place with any other nintendo IP. @_@ of course, this isn't counting things like mario kart and maybe mario party where it'd be easy to have a pokemon representative thrown in there, but i digress.

if anything, i can picture pokemon x animal crossing to be more of a reality. the environment of both games seem like they'd compliment each other pretty well.

Kirby is basically a Pokémon tho, let's be real. Toss Jigglypuff for Kirby and keep everything in the evo line the same, I don't think many people would be outraged tbh.
