Nintendo Switch 2 revealed in first-look trailer

A Nintendo Direct on the system will happen on the 2nd of April. We also saw a new Mario Kart track… maybe a new title?
Expected it to look a little more different. Is not complaining. Liked the Switch. Improved the kickstand (maybe), which is nice.

Misses the more colorful controllers. Gave it a better visual than 98% black.

Cannot believe they went with Switch 2 for the name. Preferred a word over a number in the past (for consoles, at least).

If it's handheld, cool. If not I'll pass.... If it's expensive, God honestly. I'll just wait for the handheld only version. I don't have a gazillion dollars.

It seems fine to me. My OG Day 1 Switch is showing its age. Do want to see more info though.

Seems like we have a new MK on our hands too - new track, and the character models also differ. DK is very much like his movie model.

It's both handheld and dockable.

I think it looks great, but I do have one main concern. That being how the joycons just snap onto the console instead of sliding in. Won't that break the controllers overtime due to the stress of holding it for so long? Are the controllers strong enough to remain connected for hours of game time? What if they break easily?
I'd hope they tested that out sufficiently! More than the joycon drift issue anyway. :v

The timing makes me question if Legends Z-A is going to be a release title for the Switch 2.
If so, I'm excited to see how powerful the Switch 2 is because that game is gonna be gorgeous.

I don't care how much it is I'm getting one the moment I'm able! That design looks so sick, I hope it feels as good as it looks!

If I'm able to, i'll likely just do what I did when the 3ds New came out and trade in my older Switch to put towards the Switch 2. Since it's confirmed it plays normal Switch games, I'm guessing it'll be like how the 3ds was and we'll just be able to transfer everything over to it.

Also I get the skepticism on the magnetic controllers, but I'm guessing it would be a good upgrade. I don't see why they'd make that decision if it wasn't worth it and wasn't shown to do well during tests. With how the joycons had the drifting issue, maybe the connectivity difference on these will make that not happen? Not sure if I'm just BSing there but it doesn't seem like a red flag to me so far at least. The overall design is really nice, I love it being more rounded!

It's about what I expected, but I'm generally happy with it. I think making it super similar to the Switch in terms of visuals and name is boring, but that it's probably a good idea for them given what happened with the Wii U's name.

I'm not sure if this is a nitpick or an actual concern, but I'm upset they haven't changed the button layout on the joycons at all. The position of the + and - buttons is something I've only felt worse and worse about as the years go on, they feel uncomfortable and awkward to use, and have made me want to swap to a proper wired controller more and more. I don't think making the new joycons bigger or changing the colour or anything helps that issue I have with it.

Having a new Mario Kart is nice, finally! I've been wondering about what will happen to the series in the future for a while now, with Mario Kart 8 essentially being a 10 year old game now and feeling like the biggest baddest greatest game in the series. I think the new track looks neat, and I'm excited to follow news about a new Mario Kart game again.

Being confirmed to be backwards compatible with the Switch's library is also a huge boon on launch. I don't think I have a lot of thoughts because it doesn't feel like we were given a whole lot, but I'm very excited for the Direct in April and I'll have a lot more to say after that, I'm sure.

DK is very much like his movie model.

I never noticed this actually, I guess they're trying to push the success of the movies towards the games now or something? It makes sense especially for Mario Kart, given there was a whole section about that series in the movie, and how approachable it is as a party game.

Absolutely insane to me that they switched out the slide-in functionality of the controllers for whatever this is. Kids are going to immediately snap that connector that's on the console itself and then the whole thing needs to be repaired. How on earth is this the approved final design? Wild. Wild!!!!

On a personal level I'm sad to see how big the joycons are. The current design of joycons are so perfect for my small hands. These new ones spread the buttons out enough that I think it might end up feeling as awful to me as the Wii remotes did where you just can't hit most of the buttons on it. :'(

The console looks good to me tbh. Not really sure what people were expecting. Nintendo was going to be incredibly safe and just go with the 'numbering' titles like PlayStation does. They didn't really need to do anything else. Be honest.

Same thing when it comes to some kind of dumb 'gimmick' for the console. Unless you want to count the joycons potentially having some sort of 'mouse' functionality then sure it has a gimmick. Otherwise... it doesn't and didn't really need one.

I won't be getting one on Day 1 as I likely won't have the money for one and will likely wait at least a month, probably longer, to begin to search for one. As far as Mario Kart... I hate being a sheep (seriously I do) but it seems to be the only game I'll probably be able to play with internet friends. It is what it is I guess.

Legends: Z-A already been announced for the Switch, so I think at best you could probably hope it has a software update (or a free/purchasable upgrade) to give it Switch 2 support.

Gah, I wish I could say the same. My hands are fairly small but they still get uncomfortable playing quickly if I'm not using my grip.. but maybe I'm just too used to that. I'm excited for a different size, but I anticipate I'll still be needing to use a grip lol. x_x;

It's really exciting to finally have it officially revealed after the torrent of rumors / leaks over the past 2 years; but it seems like pretty much more of the same. That's not inherently a bad thing, not every new console needs to be some wacky Wii-like reinvention of the wheel, but literally naming it the placeholder generic name people have been using is a major sign that Nintendo's playing this extremely safe. I probably won't pick it up on release since I'm still quite happy / have plenty of games to get through on my Switch 1; but I'm definitely intrigued to hopefully see the specs / launch titles in the April Direct.

The design makes me wonder if Nintendo's trying to pivot to a slightly older audience, with the Switch 2 being for 12+ while the Switch 1 remains the cheaper / more durable option; sort of like the New 3DS / 2DS. In addition to the magnetic thing, it's also a good bit thicker and taller; almost like a slimmed down Steam Deck, and rumors are saying it's going to be like $500 at launch which is reaching into full console territory.

Awesome but I hope they make a Switch 2 lite I really don't like detachable controllers.

I'm surprised by the new joycon style, but I do have my doubts on it. I guess only time will tell if it'll hold up.

That being said though, people learned more info about a new Mario Kart game today than they did the Switch 2 in its entirety at all. The leaks on the console were so bad that they had to shadowdrop this as a trailer on a random Thursday morning rather than have some kind of nice and big announcement.

Kinda hoping that the asterisk on the backwards compatibility doesn't exclude too many games. Will save data and digital game transfer between Switch 1 and Switch 2 be a (easy to do) thing?

I'm a little surprised that we seem to be getting a new Mario Kart, my expectation was that they'd just do Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deluxe and make MK8 Nintendo's Skyrim lol. A new entry is better though.
