Studied immunology last year for uni yay! But even then... let's just say that this virus has no interest in damaging us. If a virus doesn't make us ill, then we will still go to work as normal, we'll meet other people as normal, and we'll pass it on - but if the virus forces us to stay in bed (or worse) then that won't happen... so it should be the norm for any new virus (especially this one, who "jumped" to humans from a different animal) to adapt to the new environment and become relatively harmless. I guess this is what we're seeing with Omicron, which - apparently - was caused by Covid "borrowing" some information from a different, human Coronavirus that already causes a mild cold.

We can hope this happens as quickly as possible, but at the same time... doing that would mean continuing to spread the virus among us to begin with! Not an easy decision. But I'm already starting to feel as if... some people aren't really worried anymore? Maybe we reached the point where we have resigned and have decided to let the virus do its thing until it does become harmless? Or at least, where we stop talking about it so much? Not sure honestly :o

I mean the people who think we should allow it to run rampant have always existed. The reason why we put all this effort into containing the virus in the first place was that we didn't have enough information back then and even with it there are still people who do get affected severely when coming in contact with the virus (mostly people with severe autoimmune diseases).

Like, sure we could just take it and continue doing things as per usual. But can we really call ourselves moral human beings if we doom a small group of people in the process because we didn't even try to support them and their needs?

I don't think that strategy would have worked. Those viruses are very resillient and a couple of weeks of total standstill wouldn't have stopped them, just delayed things a little.
But I do agree that we were way too slow and especially politicians didn't take it serious enough which then lead to way more casualties than should have ever happened. All the while the industry kept making profit and benefitted a lot from bailouts and whatnot.
And I'm so very tired of this stupid "oh now the economy didn't grow as fast as the years before". Stupid obsession with productivity...

I feel like the Economy is taking more damage from Covid being dragged out this long than if they would've just not half assed the measures in the first place lol
Well hindsight is 20/20 I guess, but they should've just been more firm about covid measures from the start.

You made my day XD

If everyone had shut down for a couple of weeks immediately then it would have had nowhere to go. Millions have died since then, it completely breaks my heart ;(
Exactly what I was thinking when we started talking about the virus and governments were still undecided on what to do ^^

I mean, while I absolutely do agree that the government took too long to take an effective stance and that lockdowns would definitely have helped, we as a society don't really have the structure to do a full lockdown right now, much less when this all began.

Infectiology is hard, predicting social ripples is even harder and getting a politician do to the right thing when it'd be unpopular is harder still.

Well, we sure did make some progress in science, and it allowed us to get vaccines quickly, study the virus more...
But the way this pandemic is going is still not too different from the ones of the past, uh? Spanish flu, the plague, the other plague... yeah, it's not that different

I'd also think that being able to halt a virus like this completely would be very hard regardless. It can easily be mistaken for something else that's not threatening, it can even be passed on by people with no symptoms, and... people are people. There's no 100% sure way that we can stop a virus imo, especially if we weren't ready for it - remember when masks were sold for €5/10 each?

I guess with covid... we also got unlucky. That's a pretty complicated virus to handle and track down, perhaps even worse than Ebola...

Please let's talk about something else than this damn virus ^^"

Are you hyped by Pokémon Legends Arceus?
I don't have a Switch so I'm not going to buy it, but I'm curious about the new Pokémons and new forms :D

I have to see. Thing is: when I got New Pokemon Snap I really wanted to play it. But I never actually really got into it and I just stopped after playing the first course once. I've developed a strange relationship with gaming over the last year. :(

I haven't played the new update yet but it is definitely fun to play after the first section, so it might be worth another shot at some point :)

At least there's some light at the end of the tunnel right now...

STAY AWAY FROM THE LIGHT MEGAN. DO NOT LOOK AT IT, & ABSOLUTLEY DO NOT WALK TOWARDS IT... 😅

I haven't played a Pokémon game since Pokémon Blakc and White, and I haven't played any Nintendo game since then either ^^"
And yet I love Pokémons (the creatures) so I regularly come back and play a new fangame ^^

Does BDSP not tempt you? It's Gen 4 so you will be familiar with it :)

This is basically the problem ^^
They give me the feeling that I grew up, but Pokémon didn't :(
