[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along V: The Gaming Strikes Back

November - Just a Phase

It's not just a phase mum. This is me now. I do crimes.

Okay, so the thematics here might be a stretch but this is what I came up with for flavour and I'm mean so you're going to have to deal with it. The theme this month is Villain Protagonists. You must play a game where you are either the bad guy by default or have the option to be the bad guy.

Yeah this is a neat theme! I don't think I have many options here, but I'm under the assumption that it might be possible to beat Baldur's Gate 3 by the time the month ends? It's something I'm playing with my bf and a friend of ours every week so I'm unsure if finishing it is something we can do, but it's the best thing I have to fit the theme. I'll be playing it regularly though, for sure.

I will be playing through the full story mode of Thief Simulator. It's a bit shlocky, but a fun game when I played it last. It's been updated quite a bit since then so it'll be neat to see all the changes.

I love this theme. But what to play? I have almost 0 knowledge about the lore of Warhammer 40k, but I think everyone there is a villain. So would Space Marine 2 count?

I'd pay it.

Good luck.

Oh this was a struggle for me because as a rule I do not play evil/villain/even slightly mean routes in games where it's an option and I've played most other games where this is a thing.

But enough googling led me to Dragon Quest Monsters 3 which seems to be a prequel to DQ4 where you play as the villain? Was too pricey for my taste on Steam so I walked into a used game store on my last night in Tokyo and picked up a copy to play. (y)

I'm going to play Carrion this month, since it was my second choice for last month's theme and still fits this month's theme as well. (It's a reverse horror metroidvania where you play a tentacle monster that eats people.)

I'm likely not gonna be able to finish this before the end of the month, we just haven't been playing it lately and I'm currently very focused on other things. I think I just gotta admit there's nothing else on my backlog that fits this theme, so I think I'm just out for this month.

Looked into Black & White. Apparently requires a lot of work to run. Involves either editing system files or getting a no-CD patch because of DRM on the CD. (May or may not still have the CD, also.) Cannot find a joystick for the X-Wing versus Tie Fighter campaigns either.

Picks Neverwinter Nights, specifically the module "Wyvern Crown of Cormyr". Never played this module before. Presumably has good and evil dialogue options, similar to the main story. Feels kind of borderline as a pick. Is not the main campaign. Likens it to (probably) a two-ish session adventure, rather than a long-running campaign.

Completed the Neverwinter Nights adventure. Verdict: Not great. Blames some of that on the adventure itself, some of it on the Switch version, and maybe some on the base game. Wrote a game journal entry on it.

Scored 64% on the final alignment tally for Chaotic Evil. Refused some of the "evil" options for not making sense. Wanted revenge and immediate gratification, not gold or sending someone to stand trial. Wore the titular Wyvern Crown in the end, at least.

Well, I completed Thief Simulator. Just wish I knew ahead of time that doing so wipes your save once you see the credits... >.> I spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to 'do everything' only for it to wind up pointless in the end. Not to mention how much of a buggy mess the last 2/3rds of the game is making it take even longer...
However! It also had it's highlights too, like when the game would super break in my favor/not in a way where a security guy can literally see me through a wall cause the wall's secretly not programmed in lol. (I even had to screen-record one of them cause it was so funny, sadly it's locked to my Switch...) I'll give the game a solid 6.5/10, just don't take it too seriously or you'll have a rough time.

oh man I have never been so unsure whether I'll clear the game along or not. It was already so down to the wire and then the game crashed at the final boss and I lost a good 6 hours of progress because I hadn't realized I'd turned autosave off aaaaaaaa. But I am watching the end credits as I type this and gp is not viewing the thread to drop the December theme so I am safe.

Anyway the story in my game was pretty bad and as a result I don't really feel like it followed the theme of the game along but I picked all the meanest answers even if they meant nothing and tried to at least live up to the spirit of the challenge lmao. I guess I will have to play DQ4 to see how this slots in bc honestly at this point I don't understand how the protagonist of this one becomes the antagonist of that one.

December - Live It Up

It's the holiday season. Time to kick off your shoes and relax at last... or maybe not? Maybe now that you've got that time off you've been craving it's time to strap on your boots, stress out your neighbours by asking them to feed your pets for a week and set off to see the world. Explore! Take risks! Experience the world and go a little crazy. Or whatever extroverts who definitely are not us do in December.

For us, we'll embrace that theme in a different way. By which I mean that this months theme is action adventure games. It's a bit of a broad genre, but a quick google should tell you if your game counts.

Luckily for you, I was late today lol

I'm looking to do a quick one for this for a change, so I'll go with the absolute classic "Luigi's Mansion".

Super excited for this theme! I'm very spoiled for choice this month so I gotta right my wrong from last month and definitely clear something. The first thing that caught my eye was ANNO: Mutationem, since it's been on my wishlist for a while, and described as an action-adventure in its Steam store page. If for some reason I don't seem to vibe with it, there's plenty of other options, so I'm sure this month won't take me long.
