    May - Bits n' Pieces

    With gaming, as with all things, we all so often get caught up in the superficial. But at the core, the idea of what a game is has little to do with crazy graphics or the flow of its animation. Besides, you can do a lot with a simple aesthetic.

    This month our theme is games with pixel art. So long as the visuals in your game are at least predominately pixel art, it counts.

    Oh perfect! This a great opportunity for me to try out Owlboy, which wil be my game for the month. I picked up a few years ago but haven't touched it yet. The visuals have always looked beautiful, and I LOVE well-done pixel art. Looking forward to it!

    Hmmm... This calls for some older game, maybe something from the Nintendo library. On the other hand, I also want to try something new, so let's say Void Stranger for now.

    (Omg I completely forgot it was a new month already.)

    Tentatively going to play the original Final Fantasy (probably the GBA verison for ease of access), but we'll see what the month holds!

    I don't have a lot of time this month for a long pixel art game, nor do I have any candidates that I've really been wanting to play lately. So for this month I'll go with The Legend of Zelda, one of my favorite old NES era games. It's not too long, and I always enjoy playing it.

    Since I haven't actually beaten it yet despite being a fan of the series since childhood, I'm going to go with Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I once made it all the way to Sky Chase Zone long ago but I've never beaten it or been to Wing Fortress or the Death Egg. Let's hope that changes this month.

    I no-lifed the game and finished Final Fantasy in like 2 Days, whoo! It's a very easy game when you're dreadfully overlevelled but also it sounds like the particular version I picked up (gba) is also the easiest port.

    I didn't end up finishing my game for April, only about 60% through, and I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to finish May's but if I do it'll end up being Mighty Switch Force 2. Since I've been offline for the last little bit I just wanted to say I'm still interested ;;

    Just finished MSF2! I think it's a good game (though nothing special) that just does more of what the first game did well. I'm unsure which one I'd prefer more if you made me pick, but I can't say I've ever played a game where the protagonist fights with a fire hose before.

    Selects Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders for this month. Released in 1988, originally. Is an old point-and-click game. Fully expects to need a guide. Passes on mapping.

    My game for this month is a little bit of insanity called System Goose Overload. I picked it up free on Steam last year because it looks nuts and has good reviews. It's also only a couple of hours long which is good because I've been sick all month.

    That's also why the OP still hasn't been updated. I promise, I'm getting to it.

    It's clear to me now that with a newborn baby, I won't be able to start and finish Void Stranger on time. So I'll resort to the plan B mentioned in my original post and play something from Switch retro library. Most likely the original Donkey Kong.

    Beat Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders rather quickly. Appreciates it for the nostalgia and multiple puzzle solutions. Commits mistakes that old games made, though. Forgot how easily you could make the game unwinnable without realizing it. Kept a guide (plus multiple save files) on standby after discovering that. Wrote a game journal entry on it.

    Everything should be up-to-date to the end of April now. Although I still need to fix the janky CSS. I'll update for May at the end of the month.
