[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along

So, basically any FF title should be acceptable here then?
As long as your main character wields a sword or magic as their primary weapon of choice and you spend as little time controlling your party members as possible in those games that aren't strictly turn-based, yes.

FFIX might be a bit of a tricky one, but as long as you ONLY use Thief Swords, I'd say it's fine.

Definitely going for Final Fantasy VIIR. I don't expect to enjoy playing Barret or Tifa much anyway, so I think the sword/magic restriction will suit me just fine for Cloud and Aerith. :D

I'm currently playing The Witcher 3, but I already have about 20 hours on it, so I'll choose different game... Hand of Fate 2. I've only ever played 1st game for about an hour, so this should be interesting. From what I saw, there was a guy running around with a sword, so I hope it's okay. If not, I'll probably go with Quest of Dungeons.

So I have a few questions for a game I'm thinking of for this month before signing up. Would Fire Emblem: Three Houses be fine for this month's theme? If so, would the swords and magic requirement also go towards your units/other playable characters besides your main character?
I'd say that as long as you have your MC Byleth use only swords and magic, and don't recruit non sword/magic users from other houses (since those are technically optional characters depending on your route) it'd be fine~

All right, cool! The majority of students I plan to recruit for this run are magic users/can use magic to a degree so this works out great. Will just need to recruit Felix too, lmao. But yeah, will sign up for this month's theme then!

So, is Age of Empires II a legitimate game for this month? it's primarily swords and bows, though it has no real main character lol
As long as you only use sword-wielding units and priests, yes~

As for me...I'm going to play The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. I just finished Ages, so I'll be transferring my secrets over and finishing up the story in this much better game :3

oh boy Gothsspam here we come

Now the only thing remains is if im crazy enough to do EVERY campaign... even though some wont have swordsmen to use or are almost impossible without siege/archers

First time coming to Cadoan, Marche heard rumors about the palace's law policies or whatever it was. He also heard about this guy named Ezel Berbier and his efforts to oppose these, uh, laws. He had a chat about it with a random nu mou in violet garb who later rushed off in a hurry.
On Marche's second visit to Cadoan, he found out that the nu mou from before turned out to be Ezel himself. He was being cornered by some random people when Marche and co. decided to help him out. As the foes ran off, Ezel thanked Marche and properly introduced himself. They were later approached by Judgemaster Cid whom Marche recognized as his other friend's (Mewt's) dad. The two then ran off after some demonstration from the antilaw creator. Only then did Ezel invited Marche to his antilaw shoppe.
Several random quests later, Marche went to Roda Volcano for another random quest. Turned out that it led him to yet another Totema, Ultima. However, this particular Totema only had these mini-crystal thingies without any guardians whatsoever, so Clan Eternatus only needed to roam around and destroy them all in order to destroy the crystal. And based on this fact, Marche deducted that this must be the nu mou's crystal, much like Famfrit to moogles. This seriously enraged Mewt who had become a prince in this world, though.

Speaking of semi-special characters, I finally got one: Eldena the Red Mage. She comes with Barrier and Doublecast already available. Plus, she actually made me went from "Yay, a special chara!" to "Yay, a viera!" upon realizing that Sonia had been the lone viera by the time Eldena joined Clan Eternatus. Silly me. 😅

I am...actually at the sixth dungeon already, haha. Even though it's been a while since I played this game - 4 years I think! - it was one of the defining games of my childhood and I can still remember it very well. Although one thing I haven't done very often (only twice, I think?) is do it as the second part of a linked game from Ages. So I'm finding passwords and having to swap back to Ages to get the returning secret to get the benefit. It's worth it, though - I got an extra heart container so I don't have to faff about with heart pieces, and now I have a Level 3 Master Sword, making me an unconquerable killing machine.

Should finish either tomorrow or Wednesday probably!

PROGRESS 1
Game: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Console: Nintendo Switch

Hi all, and welcome to Bay's progress run of Fire Emblem Three Houses: Black Eagles edition! I've done the Blue Lions and Golden Deer route before this one, so when this month's theme for PC's Game Along is Swords and Sorcery I though hey let's do this theme with my Black Eagles run.

Per the rules, main player chacracter Byleth will be using only swords and magic, and I can't recruit non-magic/sword users from other houses. I might recruit a couple units associated with the church for a particular paralogue though. The Black Eagles route gets split into two when near timeskip, Silver Snow and Crimson Flower. For the purpose of the Game Along, I'll be focusing on getting credits for Crimson Flower. If I finish Crimson Flower before the month's end, then I'll do Silver Snow for fun.

Prologue-Ch 3

All right, so I'm going to skip the tutorial/prologue and go staight to Chapter 1, the mock battle. I can only have 5 units on the field, so I went with Edelgard, Hubert, Petra, Lindhart, and me. After going though Ignatz and Lorenz easily, I was about to have us go against Claude and Hilda but then switched to Dimitri and his group last minute oops. Once the rest of the students and the teachers have been dealt with, the Black Eagles won.

I rarely use Combat Arts because I'm so stingy with weapon dualibity, but during this mock battle I used them a lot. Hubert's Misama is quite good, but I used them all up before the end lol. This is the smoothest mock battle I've done compare to my last two runs, but I think that's because of experience haha.

For Chapter 2 I went and recruited the Ashen Wolves, the new characters from the DLC sidestory Cindered Shadows. I tried them out when doing my Golden Deer run, but mostly been using Balthus and Constance. For this run I'll be using Yuri with Hapi as backup. When first recruited, they're at level 3 which is sweet.

Chapter 2's mission is basically dealing with thieves at the Red Canyon. At one point as Petra and I went for the chest with the large bullion, two thieves went after us. I used a Gambit on one of them, but it missed oof.

On Chapter 3 I recruited Anna the merchant, which you can do as part of the DLC. I also recruited three new students from the Blue Lions House: Mercedes, Annette, and Felix. Felix I plan to make use of him on some battles and missions. Mercedes and Annette I recruited to get supports with the Black Eagle students, so they'll be mostly sitting on the benches so to speak. I used New Game Plus to get my skills rank up and support with those characters up, hence how I'm able to get them early.

Chapter 3 is the infamous Fog of War chapter where your students go against Lord Lonato and his militia. I used a few torches and spot the mage responsible for the fog immediately. I had Yuri go against Lord Lonato because I thought there would be special dialog between them, but nope Lonato didn't recognize Yuri lol. Ah well.

Next up we'll meet the Death Knight for the first time. Also I'll be trying to recruit Lysithea. My Magic stats are a bit short still, so I might have to gain her support haha.

Just want to check, is FF6 going to be an acceptable game choice here?
Terra is generally recognised as the main character in FFVI and she specialises in magic and can equip swords, so that's a yes from me.

After destroying Ultima, Clan Eternatus continued their work on doing random quests. That is, until they encountered Mewt's personal mage, a nu mou named Babus Swain. He tried to hunt Marche down but well, he messed up.
Later, Marche and friends found yet another hidden crystal at Nargai Cave. This particular one was guarded by Totema Adrammelech who summoned elemental dragons as his minions. Having focused on destroying the crystal, Marche didn't even bother to guess which race is Adrammelech for this time. Once the Totema went down and Marche got back to the cave, he bumped with Babus. Again. The black hole from before showed up right at their sights and Babus got a glimpse of what Marche has been trying to tell him. Not wholly persuaded, Babus questioned Marche's reasonings for returning to "this other world", to which the latter couldn't answer. Babus ridiculed Marche's nonexistent motives and teleported away with a warning.

Honestly, unlike Famfrit, Adrammelech was quite a tough cookie with tons of HP and hefty damage he had dealt. I had to spread everyone out and get my white magic wielder (in this case, Peet right before he became an illusionist) to heal everyone else as soon as they got hurt. While some people prefer to crush and/or cripple the minions before getting to the boss, I tried to focus on the boss while avoiding the minions instead, hence me finding various magic and ranged attacks like Air Render and Mog Lance useful. Good thing none of the dragons got Peet tho.

I finally started FF6 today. I haven't done much as of yet though. I have met Locke and fled Narshe with him to Figaro Castle and have just met Edgar. I spent a lot of time grinding up to a more reasonable level, leaving a trail of dead rabbits and birds behind me so haven't been able to explore much of the story yet. So far though, I like the game. Admittedly though, the characters don't start nearly as strong (personality wise) as those in the other FF games I've played, but I expect they'll grow on me as the game progresses.

So, I've made a lot of progress now... well a lot is subjective, but I'm worming my way towards the halfway stage slowly but surely. It's a lot to explain in detail and it's not a game I want to reveal too much of anyway, but the short version is that I have now made it back to the second Narshe visit after trudging through the 2+ hours of Sabin's solo section after the group splits up the first time, and the other two's much shorter sections as well.

Kefka has been defeated in his first real fight and I now have access to Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Cyan, Gau and Celes. Although, Terra's kinda just flown off eastward for a while and we're about to split up to go after her. So my party now consists of Celes, Locke, Edgar and Sabin so as not to go against the theme.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. Maybe not quite as much as I did FFIX or FFX, but the story is intriguing and I've come to the understanding that part of the reason the characters lack personality at times is because of hardware restrictions when it was first created. I will say though, FFVI has the best overworld theme so far. It's gorgeous.

PROGRESS 2
Game: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Console: Nintendo Switch

Chapters 4-7

So Chapter 4 I tried to recruit Lysithea. I did choir practice, meals, give her gifts, and even did tea time with her. Unfortunately she wasn't interested in my house just yet, so I had to wait until the next chapter to try again. As for Chapter 4's mission, I originally wanted to go against the Death Knight but with his counterattack and my team going to have a hard time getting a hit on him I decided against that. There's of course Gambits, but I only had a few of my characters bringing those, oh well.

Chapter 5 I tried to recruit Lysithea again and did the choir practice, meals, etc. again. After getting B support with her, I asked her to join my house and she said yes! Now I got all the students I wanted to recruit for this playthrough/Game Along, woo.

Chapter 5's mission is perhaps one of my least favorite maps in the game. It takes place on top of a tower where you have to slowly go around to get to the commander Milkan. Fliers aren't able to get to him quickly unless you have someone with warp, which I don't at the moment. Sorry Edelgard and Caspar my Wyvern riders. Once you defeat Milkan he turns into a demon beast and oh my gosh Sothis's snark at the end of her tutorial always gets me.

Before I begin talking about Chapter 6, I got Byleth and Edelgard's C+ support, which is SUPER IMPORTANT later on. There's one part I want to mention that will be under spoilers:

Spoiler:

Okay, spoilers talk done lol. In Chapter 6 I recruited Shamir the archer. I only did that so that I can get her and Alois's prologue so I won't be using her at all except when I get to the prologue. Also she's not a student from the house sooooo.

Chapter 6's mission is to rescue Flayn from the Death Knight. I wanted to use Lysithea since she can learn Dark Spikes T, but she didn't learn it yet. I had her adjacent with me and in the middle of the battle is when she's able to learn it lol. Thought about trying the Death Knight this time, but I defeated all of the other enemies before I'm able get to him and the mission ended lol.

Chapter 7 is where I can start doing paralogues. The first one I did was Dorothea and Ingrid's paralogue. Man I hated the paralogue when I first did it in my Blue Lions run and I still despise it. It's a map filled with lava that you can take damage from, and some of the archers have bows that can poison you. I fared much better this time than my first time playing this map. The paralogue's ending is cute though, Dorothea willing to marry Ingrid then and there awwww.

The next paralogue is Balthus and Hapi's, which is available if you have the DLC. I grind Balthus and Hapi a bit before doing their paralogue, and managed to have Hapi at least a Valkyire class (basically magic user on horse from past FE games). The objective is to get the relic from this dude.

Spoiler:

He stole the relic so he could exchange it and get his daughter back. His daughter being... Monica.

(That screenshot was back when I did that paralogue in my Golden Deer run. Hence why you see a couple Golden Deer students in there lol).

Because he doesn't have the crest to safely use that relic, he turned into a demonic beast. He did some damage to a few of the students but otherwise wasn't too hard to deal with. Feel bad for him through because of what happens later in the game's story oof.

Chapter 7's main mission is the Battle of the Eagle and Lion, a three way battle between the houses. To be honest nothing too worthy happened, though I had a bit too much fun with Dorothea's Meteor lol.

Oh yeah, before I end this progress report I should mention Byleth's class progression. I had him as Thief for immediate class and Assassin for advanced class. Assassin you need both good proficiency in swords and bows. I used New Game Plus to bring his bow proficiency up but haven't had him used any bows during this run so far. Probably going to have him switch to Swordsmaster though soon.

(I think for future progress reports I won't mention the paralogues unless something interesting happens. If I try to brief on all of them we would be here all day lol).
