Since we're on the topic of niche Pokemon, would you guys be interested in an Improve-A-Pokemon project, similar to Smogon's CAP? Essentially take a Pokemon, improve it (without making it overpowered), and implement it in a separate OU format on the battle server. We could add more viable Defoggers, walls, etc. to balance the metagame. The only problem is, will enough people participate and use the format?

That seems cool and interesting, we could like have a tournament after the project is somewhat done or reached a particular target !

I think he doesn't mean creating a pokemon, similar to cap since we are improving on a pokemon from lower tier by doing what seems necessary for it to be viable in ou.

Do you mean like, adding a few moves, replacing a few abilities, and switching a few stats?

Either way I'd love to take part in all of this. c:

So guys, I think it's safe to say that Huge Power Azumarill with Aqua Jet is the ultimate Mega Blaziken counter?

I presume so, given it resists Blaziken's STABs and having defenses capable of taking a hit. Given how often Blaziken spams recoil moves like Flare Blitz and wears itself down a lot, it allows for Aqua Jet to pick off the weakened Blaziken.

Azumarill countering Mega Blaziken would ultimately come down to the scenario. If Blaziken was allowed the opportunity to setup a Swords Dance, Azumarill doesn't have a safe switch in because it will be nearly KO'd by Flare Blitz given the nature Blaziken is running. Blaziken can then switch out next turn to avoid the Aqua Jet. If not allowed to setup, that 2HKO turns into a possible 3HKO (Adamant still has a small chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock, but I'm not sure whether Adamant or Jolly is the preferred nature). CB Azumarill OHKO's Blaziken, but that shoul be a given. Of course, Azumarill can switch in on Blaziken's other moves, but I assume the move of choice would be Flare Blitz.

At least on Battle Spot, running a defensive/stall team, I find Megabro to be the perfect counter for Blaziken and its mega. Most of the players on Battle Spot who run Blaziken will open with it because I have a couple vulnerabilities to it on my team, and they always open with a Protect to get the Speed Boost, which gives me time to set up a Calm Mind, eat up a Close Combat or Flare Blitz, and then destroy with a Scald.

Maybe this is just restricted to my spot on the ladder but in the last week I've done it at least a dozen times.

Mega Slowbro does make for a pretty good Blaziken counter, though switching into one that is at +2 and has Knock Off is a little worrisome.

You guys do realize Mega Blaziken also has access to Baton Pass? If you want Blaziken to act as a sweeper AND support Pokemon in one, you can give it SD, Flare Blitz, High Jump Kick and Baton Pass. Of course, this set needs heavy prediction, but it can simply set up, tank a Scald, and BP to someone who can kick Slowbro's ass (Heracross, Mega Tyranitar, anything with over 115 attack).

This is a hypothetical scenario, but Mega Slowbro is not a true counter to Blaziken (not to mention +2 Flare Blitz in the sun and Knock Off hurt like hell!)

Blaziken used Poison Jab!
Yeah, it was viable in very early XY when it ruined the meta. SD/Protect/High Jump Kick/Poison Jab or Knock Off were honestly enough for it to wreak havoc. Flare Blitz wasn't even necessary in many cases, just like BW Blaziken on a rain team in Ubers.

So, Greninja got banned to Ubers... what's everyone's thoughts?

It was quite a fun Pokemon to use, but its versatility allowed for unpredictability and as a result it threatened too much of the OU metagame. Gonna be interesting to see how well the frog will fare against a tier full of strong legendaries and other "broken" stuff but at least it can give something new a chance to shine in OU.

As for how the result of the suspect test went, 82% voted for the ban. Loads of Smogoners knew it was going to be too much.

This thing had no true counters, it was kinda like Weavile in UU. Between Gunk Shot, Low Kick, Dark Pulse and Ice Beam, and a base 122 speed, balanced and offense were fucked. Besides all that, Greninja also has a massive movepool, so no team was truly safe.

Good riddance.

Blaziken was one of those cases that it looked easy to handle on paper, but it didn't seem like it. I was about to mention Mega Slowbro, but seems that was mentioned a few posts up. I would argue Gyarados and Salamence with Intimidate, since they resist both its STABs, but I think it can learn Stone Edge for that.

But with Greninja gone, as mentioned above, there might be a chance for Mega Metagross to have fun now.

good riddance imo :p now i want manaphy banned actually

Honestly, not many offensive Pokémon come to mind when you mention checking Mega Blaziken. Since it IS an Uber, Pokémon like Lugia ,Ho-oh, Groudon and Giratina fare well against it, though the former two have to be wary of Stealth Rock and none of them particularly want to switch into a Knock Off, even if they will simply lose their item. Though, Defog is a thing and it isn't particularly hard to keep entry hazards off the field.

In addition to Adaptability Dragalge being a thing, Rock Head Tyrantrum will become a thing in the future. Why? Because of the Battle of Hoenn tournament handing out a Rock Head (or was it Sturdy?) Tyrunt as an entry prize. I'm pretty sure that Tyrantrum has Rock Head as its DW/Hidden Ability.

Anyway, Tyrantrum is alright in RU, but hasn't made much impact in OU because of its relatively common weaknesses. With Rock Head released, it can now use a recoil-free Head Smash as its Rock STAB instead of Stone Edge.

Potential sets:
-Dragon Dance/Rock Polish
-Head Smash
-Outrage
-Earthquake/Fire Fang
Nature: Jolly/Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry
Ability: Rock Head

or
-Head Smash
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Fire Fang
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
