What are some features that you don't want to see again?

As you all know, there are various things that certain Pokémon games introduce and are never seen again in later games. In the post-game, a lot of games have unique features and exhibits that people tend to enjoy a lot, and would like to see in future games. There are some we even get before then, and the general consensus is that a lot of people like them, but there are some that don't. And i'm sure there are some people who just shake their heads at some of these things while the majority enjoys them. Are there any you feel that way about?

Now, don't mention the obvious - you may feel weirdly alone in whatever you mention (although i'm sure you aren't). I mean, nobody likes the opening tutorials (which I still think people make a bigger deal out of than they should), and you're not gonna blow anyone's mind when you say you want to skip them. But what about the features that there are several people that have conveyed they'd like to see a return, like Challenge Mode from B2W2, walking Pokémon in HGSS, or even the Battle Frontier? What if things like those are among what you hope don't make a return? Why do you not want them to return? (inb4 Elite Overlord LeSabre gives her 153869432184125978th rant about the PWT)

So, what has the franchise seen once that others want to see again, but you hope you never have to? Discuss.

I don't believe there's much out there, at least for me. Though, if I had to state one, I would say Experience Share.

I don't want Experience Share to be removed, per se; the new Exp. Share system they had introduced in X and Y, if you ask me, is rather great! However, we've seen a lot of fans complain about this, as it wound up making game-play too easy. If they didn't like, their only options were to either keep it the way it is or disable the item completely. If they were to modify this slightly, in my opinion, and perhaps allow us to disable Experience Share only on certain members of our party rather than all, I feel it would be very nifty!

Also, although this is not what the thread is about, I was sort of disappointed to not see character-customization feature make it into Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in full form. I've always wanted them to introduce such a feature (and I'm sure so have many other fans)--something that would permit us to personalize our player any way we choose--and watching that become reality was rather sweet. Finding it disappear soon afterward in the next set of games, however, was sort of the opposite. I truly hope they bring it back at some point in future!

Exp. Share is super cheap. I will admit I used it in X, but I'm try to avoid using it in ORAS, unless I really need a Pokemon to level up. I HATE training, but I think they should just keep the old school way, IMO.

I'm not against tutorials per se; I'd just like them to be more subtle, that's all. Also I don't want the same HM system that has been used since Gen 1. Like, in ORAS they showed off that it's possible to travel to different places in another way than using Fly (namely the Eon Flute). There have been so many experiments with different mechanics, but the HM system always stayed the same (and no, there's no differense between "getting an HM, but not being able to use it untill Gym Badge" and "not getting it untill Gym Badge has been obtained" and you still need Surf in order to beat BW2).
Forced teleports; and I mean forced. In ORAS there were instances were you could choose if you want to be brought back to a certain place and you could decline, but there were also parts where they just brought you there anyway.
The old roaming mechanics should never come back. Ever.

As for everybody-likes-it-features...Mega Evolution? Tbh. I neither like nor hate it, but I always feel forced to have a Mevo on my team when playing against other people.
Also the new Knock Off mechanics. Who thought, buffing that move would be a good idea?

There aren't really any new introductions that I'm opposed to (at least as far as generation V, having not played beyond BW2).

I'd like to see HMs die, though - or at least the games re-designed so that you aren't required to use them. Given that TMs are no longer single-use there's no distinction between the two systems - so they may as well just be TMs now (given that some TMs have out of battle effects, anyway). That's nevermind the fact that they're completely useless in battle, anyway (Surf's arguable, though) - meaning that you've got to either sacrifice a slot in your party, or several moves in your team, in order to actually progress in the game. Seriously, can we not make these things optional? Or item-based? Or something completely new? I loved the generation V Victory Roads, which I normally detest, because I could actually play through them without the need to slaughter my team to get through the things - anything that required HMs were optional areas that were in no way needed to reach the League. It gave me a reason to come back and explore post-game, too. There's so many benefits to a change in the HM system that I could continue to ramble on for a lot longer than this.

Another, more minor, irritant is the replaying of parts of the story upon loss. If were going to make it so that things never happened, could we at least reset the teams to the state they were in before the forced sequence? I know Pokémon games don't aim for realism, but for some reason this just really irritates me. I'd rather go and train elsewhere for the sake of not having the whole timeline collapse because I'm poo at the game I'm playing.

I would like to see the end of HMs. What is the point in making it so that you can't overwrite particular Pokémon moves unless you eventually find a Move Delete? There are TMs which affect the overworld, and one of those is a former HM. The whole HM system just seems stupid and pointless now. Heck, for things like Fly and Surf, I don't think your Pokémon should even need to know those Moves; basically, if a Pokémon dwells in water or has wings, it should be able to surf or fly regardless of whether it uses such attacks, getting rid of HMs altogether.

I don't much care for the hyped Battle Frontier and similar facilitates either. As far as I'm concerned, being able to re-challenge all Pokémon Trainers over and over again after a very short time, with them levelling up with each battle, is perfect. Challenging real people and setting rules for those battles also makes the facilitates seem boring.

I'm agreeing with 2 things already being suggested; HMs and Exp. Share.

HMs are just annoying now. The ones you get early game, especially, you don't want to put on your Pokemon so you always have to catch a Pokemon that can learn it and that takes up a slot which is a problem when you need that HM to be used in a Cave or Victory Road and you miss out on levelling up one of your Pokemon. And as Malters pointed out, I find it pretty stupid that Pokemon with wings can't already Fly and Water-type Pokemon can't Surf. That pretty much implies that if your Pokemon doesn't know Fly, it can't be airborne even if it has wings.

With the Exp. Share, it makes the game quite a bit easier. You can just have a Pokemon sit in your party with Exp. Share and not use it in battle, and when it comes to the E4, you only use it then. This takes the challenge out of the game, you should have to want to battle because that's the point of the game. I mean, I wouldn't have anything against it if received after the E4 because people will want to get Pokemon to level 100 if they're competitively battling and it will take a very long time otherwise.

    Hmm, let me see...

    1. HMs. With the exceptions of Surf, Fly, and Waterfall (Gen 4 and later), these are all horribly weak, useless moves that don't do anything but unnecessarily nerf your team (either by forcing you to carry a party of 4 or 5, plus one or more HM Slaves, or by forcing you to put a 50 BP Normal Type move on your best battler) just so you can remove a damn bush. And, even the three good HMs still force you to carry, at least, one Water and Flying type each (which, in turn, makes a Ground type mandatory to cover the shared Electric weakness), really putting a crimp on how you can build your team. Others have already said a lot about HMs, so I won't elaborate any further.

    2. Natures. Yup, I said it. I don't care if these make Pokémon "unique," there's nothing good or useful about an Adamant Alakazam, and you know it. I don't want to spend hours searching through the grass or hatching eggs just so I can get a Pokémon who's stats aren't unnecessarily nerfed by a hidden, barely recognized mechanic. Give me the simple, easy-to-understand stat system of the first two Gens, any day!

    3. Abilities like Poison Point and Static. I'm far more mixed on Abilities than I am Natures, but any and all Status-causing abilities can die in a fire. They aren't even that useful in battle, and all they seem to do is waste your healing items and make grinding a pain.

    4. Gen 3-Later Berries. Am I the only one who preferred the Berry system of Gen 2? Sure, names like "PRZCureBerry" and "PSNCureBerry" aren't as realistic or exciting as "Cheri Berry" and "Pecha Berry," but they're far more descriptive and are easy to learn without looking anything up. And, things just got *way* too complicated with all the Contest Berries, Stat Berries, Damage Berries, Berry Mixing, Berry Farming, and so on. Just give me the simple healing items/Apricots you can pluck off a tree and wait a day to grow back, The End.

    5. Contests. Why were these ever added to the games? They seem to play out very randomly, and they don't look all that fun, IMO. (Their connection to a certain fish Pokémon's annoying, hard-to-obtain evolution doesn't help matters.) I don't get it.

    6. Battle Facilities. I loathed the one in Crystal, and I loathe them even more today. I don't get what's so fun about battling (and losing to) a bunch of cheaters. The fact that later games have made them function as the primary postgame and have made certain items and even, moves only available using "Battle Point" currency (basically, forcing even casual players to go through these evil places) only makes them worse. GF needs to stop catering so much to the competitive crowd and shoving competitive battling (including battle facilities) down the throats of casual players.

I think that the best way for the current version of Exp. Share to be implemented would be to keep it like the old-fashioned Exp. Share where it's a held item that only affects one Pokémon. Then, when you beat the Elite Four and you're in the post-game, make it so that the Devon president or whoever upgrades your Exp. Share into "Exp. Share +" or something that works as it does now where it's a key item that affects the whole team.

Idk lol, I think that would be a lot more feasible than the all or nothing deal that's going on now.

I like where Mochi's coming from, I prefer that more than the Exp. share system as a whole. That made Pokemon X too easy imo, and would not like to see that again. I'm tired of how all the starters consist of fire/water/grass Pokemon, I would like to see that changed up in future games. Maybe see like an electric/rock/water trio or something similar in new games. I know that's how it's always been but why does it have to be like that, goodness, Pikachu is the probably the most advertised Pokemon for Pokemon (lol) and it's neither fire/grass/water.

Also, god forgive we have an E4 at the end of each Pokemon game. The spheal gets old at the end of every game. Why can't we have an official tournament style battling to be crowned champion like in some of the anime. You face a slew of trainers, each with different rules as well as different Pokemon then "coincidentally" you face your rival for the title of Champion. It's not much different, but I think it could be a cool change.

    1) Being 'stylish' to unlock map areas. No, Game Freak. No.

    2) Having to level up beauty or any other contest metric to evolve a pokemon. Some Feebas couldn't even evolve D: thankfully there are now other ways to get a Milotic I think? Anyway this was diabolicawful.

    3) Friend safari. What if I don't have friends? D: I can't get hidden abilities. Screw you Game Freak.

    4) Making pokeballs from Apricons instead of just easily buying them. No.

    5) Legendary pokemon which have to be map-funnelled into a corner of the region, repel scouted and caught with one ball before they run away because I can't be bothered with mean look. Stahp it!

    6) Riding a Pokemon REALLY SLOWLY with bad puzzles and random rock smashing. Ok, keep the rock smashing. Smashing rocks is awesome, but leave that to rock smash.

    7) Terrible great new bag layouts. Just pick the most intuitive item divisor and STICK WITH IT zomg.

    8) Forcing HMs to take up battle move slots is still a thing, that's annoying. When you teach a Pokemon an HM a dialogue should appear asking whether to teach it just as a field-based move (which takes up no battle slot) or whether to also teach it as a battle-move. Come on seriously D: it's not hard.

    9) Stupidly long over-world sequences for the Elite Four, dividing the Elite Four up into random rooms which are too far apart (instead of the more practical consecutive challenges). Makes levelling take to long, put it back how it was D:

    10) USELESS MOBILE PHONE CALLS (G/S/C/HG/SS). I don't want them in GTA4, I don't want them in Pokemon. I swear if I boot up SoulSilver and get a phone call from my cousin asking to go bowling... I just want to make little monsters explode. K? K.

    11) The rest of the Pokegear.

    12) Contests. I just don't like them in general :) but I suppose they should stay for the two or three people who love them (lol)

    13) Fat and asleep pokemon and their various accompanying flutes. We get it, it's a parallel to Snorlax in R/B. Move on.

    14) Exp All. It was terribad. Exp share that works sort of like Exp all is good, because it multiplies the Exp (instead of dividing it). Most disgusting item ever.

    15) Sea-foam Island D: I once went to catch Articuno without an escape rope. Then tried to get out. I still have flashbacks.

    16) Mirage Island, or accessible map areas based on random number generation. So much effort for a Liechi Berry.

Gonna echo HMs like everyone else. Why I have to teach something like Scyther Cut is beyond me. It has fucking blades for arms. It should know how to cut down trees without being taught to by a disc.

I never got the hate for the new Exp.Share though. Just turn it off. It's a freakin' godsend for when you're training Pokemon (for competitive battles) in the post-game. I agree with Mochi on how they should do the Exp.Share from now on though. That sounds better for everyone.

Eh, what else is there....I know that there's something....uh, I'll get back to you on that.

I've also thought the exp. share should have a feature that lets us group which Pokemon should get the exp.

I wish you could turn off the nature feature. I only play in game so natures aren't that important to me, but regardless it's annoying to spend a lot of time finding a Pokemon and then to catch it and find out it has the worst nature. People say natures don't matter if you only play in game, but depending on the Pokemon sometimes they do. I once raised a swellow without knowing natures well and it had one that hindered its attack and the entire game I kept thinking "why does this particular swellow suck so bad compared to others I've raised??"

also gotta agree with kurobat. Out of all the side things they have given us to do the movie one in b2/w2 was so annoying. I couldn't believe they roped us into such a long tutorial for something that wasn't even part of the main storyline.

The safari zone in dppt was my least favorite. never again. I can't remember the name of it, but the item we had in dppt that took up the lower screen that you kept collecting apps to was kinda lame and ugly. I get it was their first attempt at something like that though, but meh.

i want the exp back how it used to be from gen 2 to 4 i never got why they changed to a gen 1 type again. otherwise, no teleports, no nurses you have to fight to get healed. and no poke gifts in midgame.

I would gladly like to see the pokemon following never make a comeback. That was stupid and I just really hated it. I seriously hope Gamefreak leaves that out of future games.

You know, I feel like some people who are so stupid hurt by having to go through Pokéstar Studios are people that don't even try to enjoy it or give it any semblance of a chance. After playing B2W2 so many times I get used to it and never care. The same judgment can kind of be made about the Parfum Palace with the Furfrou that you have to chase.

And I hope that if anything like this gets introduced in a future game, people actually try to enjoy it as opposed to treating it like an excruciating nightmare.

Yeah, I enjoyed the movies. Some were tedious due to relying on luck too much (i.e. for a crit to not happen and screw it up), but some of the stories were entertaining, particularly those with the strange endings. (And hey, free lemonade!)

Musicals however were far less interesting. The only thing going for them is trying to out-ridiculous friends in local wifi, but even then it was limited entertainment.

Oh yeah, and the whole HM thing too. I like the idea of using Pokemon bypass obstacles, because the game is about commanding creatures, but they really could implement it better by now.

You know, i'm kind of wondering if I should have mentioned HMs with the tutorials in "you won't surprise anybody mentioning that", because it seems almost everyone here has mentioned them. But that said, Generation V only had a number of points where HMs were explicitly required that I can count on the fingers of one of my hands (Cut in the Dreamyard, Surf on Route 21, and Strength in Victory Road in B2W2). XY had more than one usage of Surf, and Strength was needed at Victory Road as well, but that one still had it simmered down a lot.
