What do you think about "Dexit"?

As of Sword and Shield, all Pokémon can no longer be obtained in mainline games. This is due to the high amount of Pokémon that now exist - and with each new generation, more are added. You can now only obtain a select group in each pair of mainline games, with others not fitting in that group being unable to be transferred to that particular game.

Is this not something that bothers you? Or are you upset it occurred?

I understand it, but I hate it all the same. Fans should always be able to use their faves.

It bothers me a lot, and I think it's a reflection of how rushed the newer Pokemon games are. As far as I'm concerned, there's 0 valid reason the largest media franchise on the planet can't hire a few extra 3D modelers to touch the older Pokemon up every few years, and it also makes me a lot more reluctant to spend much time raising Pokemon in the Switch games since it's likely they'll be stuck in PokePrison for years until a new gen that supports them comes out.

I haven't played any Switch game yet, but so far it isn't something that bothers me. I haven't transferred a Pokemon between games in over a decade, and the games have always had regional dexes and unobtainable Pokemon. If I want to have access to the entire roster (which I usually don't, I like the restriction of having to work within a Regional Dex), that's what romhacks and fangames are for.

Does not mind. Began with ~400 Pokemon in the two affected games. Suffices for multiple replays. Rivals the 457 in X/Y's Pokedex. Nearly matches the 403 in Ultra Sun/Moon's Pokedex.

Certainly prefers having them all. Welcomes the returning Pokemon when the DLC re-introduces them. Offers a pretty good system for transferring between Generation 8 and 9 too. (Wishes you could transfer eggs, though.) Manages just fine without them before that, however.

Having the Dex be cut doesn't bother me in itself, and I understand not having them all in every game, but not adding all the rest of them to the first or second Gen games on your system is pathetic. I dispise the way modern Pokemon is doing things... >.>
(example -half in Gen 8 and half in Gen 9 instead of all in both- which would be fine, but ~40/60% in one and ~95%-ish in the second leave the last few in fuck-off limbo and I hate that)

I understand the situation and it doesn't bother me one bit. I do feel like every Pokemon should have a game to call home on a single console, so I feel like they could've cycled what Pokemon gets into what game better.

I also find it kinda dumb that they keep making Pokemon with multiple forms. Like Alcremie has like what 64 forms? Can't help but wonder how many other Pokemon got denied entry to be able to make that happen...

As YouTuber Foxcade pointed out, Pokémon transitioning to a 3D game has made it a logistical nightmare. Game Freak has had to double its workforce twice to keep up with deadlines when it comes to modeling, rigging, and animating at least 6 move animations per Pokémon, on top of building a new map, programming new moves, and having to maintain a balance between catering to both casual and competitive players.

That's so much more work than just having 2D pixellated sprites with a couple animations, and then having moves animated on their own layer, a trick which Game Freak leaned on up to Gen 5. Scale that up to 1000 Pokémon.

Part of the blame is on Game Freak for setting the expectation of being able to take Pokémon with you between old and new game consoles. Eventually Pokémon Bank and Pokémon Home are going to become deprecated. Eventually Pokémon GO is going to become deprecated.

I personally believe that ripping off the bandaid and soft resetting the series every few generations like they did betwen 2nd and 3rd gen will lead to higher quality video games, a fresher competitive metagame, and probably better Pokémon designs. Then again, I don't have Pokémon Bank, and don't have Pokémon I caught 20 years ago in games I bought this decade. Maybe if they followed a formula like they did in 3rd and 4th Gen where they made smaller core games focused on the current/future Gen and let you acquire old Pokémon by connecting your game to spinoff games á la Pokémon Ranger of Pokémon Box, that could mitigate the workload?

It doesn't bother me, I like to play with different teams in my different journeys anyway, and experimenting with Pokémon you have not tried before is part of the excitement and fun. So I don't mind if some of my favorites are not available in a certain game at all. As long as there's a good cycling of returning Pokémon I'm fine, I don't like when some remain unobtainable for too many games (unless they're legendaries or something special)

I think 300-400 Pokémon per region is more than enough. More than that would feel bloated, I don't think having a route 1 with every regional rodent+regional bird followed by a route 2 with every regional bug is good design.

Also never been a fan of playing with "outsider" traded Pokémon. Did it on a few occassions and it feels weird to me having a Pokémon that nobody else has, so I prefer making a team with Pokémon that belong to the region I'm playing in.

It's nice that a lot of people have cooled off about this now. I think it's less important that every pokemon is available in a game, and more that a modern pokemon game exists with your favorite in it. If you can get the one you want in SCVL or SWSH, that should be enough. But I also think if they're gonna bother adding nearly every pokemon back through DLC they may as well just add all of them. SWSH is barely missing any. On release I'd actually prefer if we only had the region dex so they can really cultivate how it feels to play that game, and later on release an update to add more back.

They also could just do what they used to and make a dedicated battling game where they don't split their focus between it and the adventure. It would make it easier to include all the pokemon, be helpful to the competitive scene and take the heat off new titles to have to include them all. But that probably would leave people who don't care about battling in the dark, idk the solution there.
