What land should the next generation's region be based on?

Just as Paldea is based on Spain, Kalos based on France, Unova based on New York, and so on, what place do you think the next region for the next generation should be based on?

I've read before that the regions (after Gen IV) tend to loosely correlate to Japanese tourist hotspots.

I'm assuming they're deliberately avoid other Asian countries since they all kinda hate Japan (or at the very least dislike it), but looking at travel data I'd look at something like Italy next.

They've already done like 3 or so European countries anyways, there's great synergistic potential for DLC and the like, and they already ship Italian as a language.

That said, I do think Brazil would be an interesting country to visit, it's the biggest Japanese diaspora in the world, has a giant cultural mish-mash and a bunch of biomes, so you can do pretty much whatever in terms of character design, map design and throwbacks to earlier generations.

Agree with the post above about Brazil, because hey, we already have a Pokémon that more or less explicitly comes from the Pokémon equivalent of that country.

That said, I'd like Argentina or part thereof to be made into a region next, but after Paldea, I'm not sure I would trust Game Freak with a Spanish-speaking region ever again.

I've been thinking of designing a region like this myself but I'd love a region based on Florida weird as it sounds. We have a lot of interesting wildlife here which can be used as Pokemon inspiration (like manatees, skinks, horseshoe crabs, armadillos), and swamps and wetlands as environments have potential. There's also a lot of opportunity for a story about how tourism and large scale development can have negative impacts on the environment. While they already did this for Hoenn (granted not that clear that they were doing that), Florida is pretty much like a real life human development vs. nature conservation.

That aside I'd rather they don't do another European country, maybe somewhere in Africa or South America, and I think an African country would be really cool given the amount of diverse options and how African architecture is usually distinct and look really cool, and my first thoughts were Ghana and Egypt. Granted they'd probably go for a bigger country before that and I've seen a lot of really cool fan designs with India.

A land based on Florida would make another region based on America, which I am definitely all for. As for Africa, I have been thinking about that as well. I think that a region based on Africa would be a good idea. In fact, I believe that Madagascar is perhaps the best place for a region based on Africa. Like most Pokémon regions, it is an island land, has a bunch of wildlife, which is great for the open world adventure style that Pokémon is moving towards now, and I could see different gimmicks working as well, such as a Pokémon safari. That would definitely work.

I would love to see one of slavic countries as a base for a new region. The Witcher proved that slavic mythology can be popular and interesting and there are bunch of cool monsters that would fit in Pokémon universe.

Other than that, I think Egypt, Turkey or Middle East can make original region.

Well, being Italian I'd obviously love to see it as a region, especially since it's a very diverse Country. That said, I think China can be such a good place for a region: it's so big, diverse, has both natural and ultra-modern locations and, especially, it has very big and great traditions which can be pretty interesting for the story and lore of the game.

Personally, I'd love to see a reagon based on Australia.
It still has the whole 'island theme' they like so much, plus they've already got some pokemon native to there.
    (at least in our world)
    + New Zealand DLC!

I'm Swedish, so Sweden. But other than that, it'd be very interesting to see a region based on The Netherlands. It would surely be beautiful.

Well, we have four regions based on Japan & China, and three regions based on European countries. Wouldn't mind exploring other continents.

Very much just Japan, no? Some of the Pokémon designs are based on Chinese mythology sure, but the first 4 regions' maps are obviously based on specific regions of Japan, and the architecture in Johto is Japanese. Agree with the sentiment though. If we're doing Europe again though, I want it to be East - get the mixed styles or architecture, cuisine (as thats a bigger thing in modern Pokémon) that come from being invaded by pretty much everyone except the British.

Also, both Alola and Galar implied the existence of a region based on India, so, I guess that's also a thing.

I actually think India's general shape would fit the new open world model quite well. You live on the southern tip, and as your progress your choices become more varied as the landscape opens up. Maybe slightly less flexible than Paldea but also less of a risk of taking the completely "wrong" route if you're a beginner who just runs like mad through the grass without looking at your map! Sri Lanka could be a new Battle Frontier or Isle of Armor expansion.

Plus, Galar already did Curry so they'll have to be less obvious in making Indian foodstuffs part of it!

Alternately, take inspiration from Indonesia / Philippines, make it an island region! Pokémon: The Way of Water / Pokémon: Too Much Water II. I'm imagining on the more open stretches there could be a gym on a container ship, an uninhabited volcano based on Krakatoa that feeds into the mythology of the region (maybe Volcanion and Heatran had a fight!)...
