They don't - as soon as the player goes off-screen, they're teleported to a very loud Western-style bar where they spend their downtime.

Depends on how fat the Pidgey are, how far you can throw the Geodude and at what velocity, and how accurate you are...or you could just have it use Rock Throw and splat them I guess. But that's the Geodude killing them and not you, so...
