Did you have a layover in Salt Lake? Was it at night? Holy hell is that city beautiful from the air at night time.

But the actual airport is SO small for an international airport. I was so shocked. Maybe it comes from the fact that I came from Philly, which has a pretty huge one.

Yes I did and no it was at night. But I got to see the salt beds from the plane which was really cool and the mountains surrounding the airport!

I would think that would be a more prominent thing in country places like Kentucky where half of the population is related by blood.

    Stereotype of the day.

rofl there's a little town on the way from Ottawa just north of my hometown called "Kinmount". Every time we pass through there we have a field day lol

My dad, upon seeing the Kinmount Community Centre building, insisted that "he didn't have to imagine what goes on between cousins and siblings" in that building lol

Why do you guys get your spring break so late? In highschool, ours was mid-March, but in university in Canada it's mid-February. Mine was from the 7th-15th of February.

Apparently you'll be an outcast if you value looks in Utah. They really are all about what's inside, or maybe they're okay with being unsightly idk lmao

Most of her complaints revolved around being judged and socially tormented. Which is strange hearing that because she was the dame at our school. go figure

    Maybe things changed.

Most of the people I saw in Utah were pretty beautiful.

Honetly I would rather have it in April, at least it will be somewhat warmer then, like actual spring. Right now it's basically winter break 2.0 Dx

Oh yeah it was great having it late! If it was this time if year I'd hate it :x way too cold right now

Canada has fall break in universities because of high suicide rates in northern schools. And by "northern", I include uOttawa, although Algonquin College curiously does not have a fall break. They're starting to integrate fall break at the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, etc. - more south - lately, too.

I honestly didn't believe it was due to suicides until I researched it a bit. Apparently the stress for international and even cross-country students causes a lot of depression and people commit suicide due to the stress and pressure of school + being so far away from "civilization". I don't think Canada is so sparse for accommodations as that, but apparently so if people are committing suicide partly due to the feeling of isolation they get from it.

So we start school here early September, have a fall break in mid-October, and end regular studies by early December. Then there's a three week exam period, two week Christmas break, then school starts back up in early January. "Spring" break is mid-April and studies end early April. Exam period ends by April 30th. May-August is school-free and intended for students to make some money to off-set costs the other eight months of the year :pink_nod: If all your exams are crammed into one week, though, and not spread out over the three-week period, your winter/summer breaks could start really early. My last day of school is April 13th and my last exam is the 22nd, so that's not too bad!

So we get a full month of mid-semester breaks on top of other holidays like Good Friday. Canada has one of the lowest national "paid" holidays totals in the world, though: some places in Europe have upwards of 20 national holidays per year. We have ten I think. We have other holidays, but schools and workplaces aren't closed / aren't required to pay time and a half on those days, so they don't count :pink_no:

She was still in high school, after all.

I should mention there is a stark cultural difference between the military life and local life. The former is a lot more polished and well-rounded, and generally more passive, outgoing, "American," etc. The military high school I went to was the only one I ever knew anyone in who drove fast new cars.

I was trying to think of any single landmark in Utah and all I came up with was Salt Lake City. Which also happens to be the only city I can think of there.

Waaaait... does it have Klamath Falls? That's a big thing, right?

Klamath Falls is in Oregon. I know that since I have been there before. As for Utah, the only things there I can think of besides Salt Lake City are the Great Salt Lake and Bryce Canyon.

my spring break is just one week in mid-April (which is pretty much the best week of the school year for me -- it's warm and I don't have to do anything!) but I also get a week off in February and a week and a half-two weeks in December/January for Christmas. then I get late June-early September off for summer. not bad at all.

It's so refreshing having a song where locking the door and lettin' your imagination go doesn't involve something sexual.

I don't know of many songs about locking the door and letting your imagination go.
