I mean come on seriously lets not shorten it to, Pokemon S&M... Sun and Moon is short enough thank you. You should all know what the term S&M is commonly used for right? Lets not expose younger children to it please... XD

Too late; it's already a ThingTM. When dealing with shorthand like that; and in the context of PC and Pokemon; I'm pretty sure people know you don't mean what you thinking, they know it means Sun and Moon.

Nearly everybody that's a PokéFan of some sort will shorthand paired Pokémon games. Doesn't matter if it's Generation I, II, or the games featuring Hoenn, Kalos, Sinnoh, and Unova. Same goes with the episode number prefixes since at least the Unova saga.

This new "controversy" reminds me of how certain songs are claimed to have subliminal messages in their lyrics when played backwards (backmasking).

I've noticed quite a few of people around here (including myself), call it Su/Mo, which I think is a way better acronym for Sun and Moon, I also think it's sort of catchy.
If you just call it Su/Mo I think most people you talk to about pokemon will probably know what you're talking about.

From now on for me it is Pokemon SuMo

I refer to games in two ways:

    1. By each version's full name with an ampersand between, i.e. sun & moon, X & Y, red & blue

    OR

    2. By abbreviation, i.e. S/M, R/B/Y, XY

I would not say S&M, nor would I say R&B...which obviously would be either red and blue or rhythm and blues.

Also, we indoctrinate children(and adults) with norms that often negatively impact their sense of sexual expression as adults...the abbreviation of S&M doesn't really harm children in the grand scheme of things, lol.

What young child is gonna come on Pokécommunity anyways? Unless I'm mistaken there's an age limit for here.

Adding to this, SM is only an abbreviation for typing. No kid is going to say "S&M" out loud.

I think there's nothing wrong with calling Sun and Moon as "S&M"... And that mentality you're raising isn't also good for younger people...

Say for instance, here in our country, the abbreviation "ORAS" means "time" in English, "SM" can also be associated with a mall... But if we're talking about Pokémon, it's already understood that "ORAS" is different from the usual usage...

Even some posts above this, "SuMo" and "R&B" can mean differently... In the end, it will still depends with the context or usage of the term...

Our members here have to at least be 13 due to the COPPA law, but personally I don't see anything wrong with using the S/M abbreviation for this generation. Especially considering our age limit makes this site less exposed to young kids who may be curious about what S/M means.

Oh I doubt that :D I've met kid's who just say things just because it sounds amusing. take it from someone who lived in japan... and have seen 12 year old's with wearing T-shirts with swear words on them. When I asked them if they knew what it meant they replied with "nope it just sounds cool."

But I guess thats just the japanese not understanding other cultures I guess...XD

It's only as dirty as your subconscious and it's not like children on the internet will get their souls eaten (seriously, it's the internet and most children already know what sex is). If they ever google Pokemon SM, they would have to really dig deep to find any semblance of pornographic or suggestive content anyways. Really, I don't understand why this is a thread, might as well complain that Pokemon have moves like Selfdestruct and Guillotine.

I wouldn't really say the letters "S" and "M" sound cool.
