The members of PC streamed into topic bearing a long awaited and beautiful announcement.

They looked on in awe, as a miracle lay before them.

It was at that very moment that it became clear. There is indeed a god on PC, and his name is Ausaudriel.

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

I've always thought censorship was a stupid concept. But debating society and its aversion of certain words isn't for this thread. Thank you for giving those of us who really don't give a damn about what words people say a chance to remove censorship entirely. Whilst I'd rather it not have ever existed in the first place, this is a good compromise and I am satisfied.

Although I don't really curse much in the first place anyway. I think I only got censored once when I said "bullshit." And then I changed it to something else because I didn't like the way it looked when it was censored. Still, it's a nice little thing.

Fuck yeah, great new feature. Thanks Ausaudriel.

That awkward moment where I see one post that says psyducking and another post that says fuck outright and I'm not sure if my censor is broken or if y'all are fuckin with me. lol

eeehehehehehehehehehehehehe i'm actually 5 i'll go home now

I followed that swear censor topic so long that I'm actually glad to see this feature now. :D

    *goes off to disable*

Now my posts of Japanese stuff with the word shit in it will look normal.

Oh yeah, this is fucking amazing!

Now I can pretty much speak freely, oh fucking shit yes! I'll try not to be a **** bitch, but maybe just a bitch :3

Right'o. I hate to be that guy, but you do all need to be aware that this is not just us saying "be as vulgar as you possibly can". Remember that regardless of if someone has censors enabled or not no-one wants to read posts full of so many vulgarities that they're outright painful to read. Apply common sense - if it wouldn't fly in conversation with a friend, it doesn't fly here and I know that at least I will be removing stuff that I think is really over-the-top and vulgar just for the sake of it.

I'm just going to play devil's advocate here -- it might be kinda tough for people with the censors on to make heads or tails of what's actually being said now. personally I like 'em but not sure if it's the most practical thing.

Censor bypassing is still against the rules on PokeCommunity. Meaning if you type "f***", you're going to receive a warning. However, you are now free to use swear words in your posts as people who do not wish to see them on PC will see them as censored words instead.

Using swear words to insult other members or using them in a derogatory/inflammatory way will still earn you a disrespect to members infraction.

I not sure I understand this, So people can't use swear words but they will be un-censored.

Great that words like kuroshitsuji won't be censored anymore haha.

Depending on feedback we will likely adapt the system. I could imagine a toggle for word replacement and asterisks somewhere down the line but we have no plans in that regard just yet.

The difference between filter evasion and what we have now is the way that our system handles the words. It picks up "fuck" as a word which we're looking out for and replaces it if the filter is enabled to something less offensive. However it can't identify "f***" as a censored word, so it won't replace it and people who have the swear filter enabled will still have to see it. Does that make more sense?

Of course I won't really use it in posts anyway, I just wanted to go crazy here and see which Pokemon were associated with which words and then if I actually do want to use the Pokemon's name, I'll write the censored word instead just for a little inside giggle.

    Fuck.

But honestly, we could have a limit or something of swear words per post so people don't go gung ho.

Because it's now an option for people to toggle on censors, there will still be a group of people who will not want to see swears. By writing just for arguments sake "$hit", you will be bypassing the system that is in place to protect people from swears, and this is why we still have that rule in place to protect the people who still want the old system. Hope that makes sense.
