This months issue of CoroCoro has started to leak revealing special Z-moves for the mascot legendaries in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

The issue reveals that the signature moves of both Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma will receive powered up Z-moves known as "Sunshine Smasher" and "Moonlight Blaster" respectively. Both forms can also learn a new move called "Photon Geyser".

    Spoiler:

It also states that the Rotom Dex will have more features in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon and Z-Power Rotom is a new mechanic that powers up Z-moves if the player has strong compatibility with the Rotom Dex.

Nice to see more new info about Necrozma's new forms! Especially the new Z-Moves, which I think will be definitely epic once a trailer shows them off, and I wouldn't be surprised if said trailer drops within a few days.

Anyways, for being the last CoroCoro before release it made sense to save something good for last.

Z-Moves do not count as news ._.

Given the lack of use of the Rotom Dex though, it'd be nice to see them flesh this out properly. A way to turn off the annoying dialogue boxes and control the map zoom level at least would be nice.

Just to make sure what they mean by 'power up Z-Moves', cause I checked an article about this on PokeJungle before coming here...

They mean you can use A SECOND Z-MOVE.
Welp, time to say goodbye to the meta, I guess. Only thing you can hope for is that this is disabled in multiplayer.

Oh, and here's said article, in case you are wondering. Guess the other thing to note is that one of the new features related to Rotom Dex is something called 'Rotopon' which 'is probably a play on Gachapon, the capsule machines in Japan.'

I'm guessing it'll be like the affection from Amie/Refresh, not apply in PvP battles due to how broken it will probably be.

Anyways, the Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma forms retain regular Necrozma's Prism Armor ability. Figured that may help the Dawn Wings better than Shadow Shield helped Lunala since the former weakens damage taken from super-effective hits, even if the only weaknesses for the Psychic/Ghost typing were both 4x weaknesses.

Wouldn't this only further prove colours' point that Game Freak does not care even the slightest about the metagame because this series is first and foremost a JRPG and not a competitive game like Smash or LoL?

Yeah, I guess. Then again, I don't care about the meta too. So, win-win for people like me I guess. But I'm still hoping that this damn feature is disabled for wi-fi battles. I don't want to have ANOTHER reason for me to not bother with online battles.

Also, I guess this is a perfect time to mention something that I found out just now: The Rotopon feature thing is basically US/UM's version of O-Powers from Gen 6. From Serebii: 'Rotom will also help you to get items & powers using a feature called Rotopon which access items in a feature listed as "Rotom Power" which do things such as boost experience.'

Yeah, basically O-Powers. Also: 'You can also interact with the Rotom Pokédex more, answering questions from it and getting reactions.'

This would be my assumption - it applies to in-game but not link/wifi battles. "not care even the slightest about the metagame" is quite the exaggeration too tbh...

I'm more interested in the O-Powers returning, that's neat.

If the Rotom Dex's ability to let us use Z Moves twice per battle carries over to online battles, some Pokemon would become pretty bonkers, like letting Z Conversion Porygon-Z and Clangorous Soulblaze Kommo-o set up again if their sweep got unfavorable at some point.

I'd say that Dusk Mane Necrozma can take better advantage of Prism Armor than Dawn Wings because Dawn Wings' weaknesses would still hurt a lot even with Prism Armor cushioning the blows. Psychic/Steel is also a decent defensive typing.

I also can't wait to see what Photon Geyser, Sunshine Smasher, and Moonlight Blaster do.

I wish we had gotten to see these in a trailer! No surprises here, though, cause we were told this game would have a lot of Z-moves; naturally the box legendaries would have some too.

More than one Z-move per battle, though? No wonder VGC is still using SM next year.

True, but the ability makes Dawn Wings more likely to survive than plain Lunala at least ^^.

Two Z Moves, because winning a battle is not fun unless it's overkill.

The O-Powers returning seems okay, however in OR/AS the only O-Power I ever used was the Hatching Power. Considering that Su/Mo has the worst designed Day Care Center map of just about any other generation, I don't think that the Hatching Power is going to make that much of a difference to me. Increased hatching is always nice, but it's not that impressive considering OR/AS used it the best.

Z-Moves for the Legends was sort of expected. Not a huge reveal, but it is nice to know that it is confirmed and we don't have to speculate on it.

To say that Gamefreak doesn't care about competitive would be the biggest joke I've heard in years. Since Gen.3 there has been nothing short of a bee-line aimed directly at taking the focus off of exploration and more on battling/competitive. Abilities, special/physical split, hidden abilities, mega evolution, breeding buffs, z-moves, yada yada yada.

If people are mistaking every pokemon not being identically powerful as one another as a bad battle system, they're clueless. The imbalance amongst strength is what makes it interesting. Using "under used" pokemon is only interesting because there are pokemon at the top to dethrone. Whether that be your blisseys in gen.3, or primals in gen.6.

Now I'll fully admit there's a lot more they need to do if they want to make VGC an actual thing. Like, truly on the level of other online games such as Overwatch or Halo. But it's anything but an afterthought to them.

Unfortunately, as much as I would like to see it, Pokemon will never be as big competitively as Overwatch, Halo, LoL, CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege are. Unlike these games, Pokemon is seen as a kids game outside of the adult Pokemon fanbase. Even if Pokemon remains just as competitive, it will have to change a lot to prove itself as a competitive game comparable to the aforementioned games.
