Officially known as base stats, but commonly known as "effort values" throughout most of the fandom. What are your thoughts on EV training? Do you work hard at EV training your Pokemon, or do you just skip it altogether? What's your preferred method of EV training? (Macho Brace, EV yield boosting items, super training, punching bags)

Myself, I tend to spend a lot of time EV training, and tend to make heavy use of the EV yield boosting items (such as the Power Anklet, etc.), as that tends to make it a much less tedious process. I do super training in the 6th gen games as well, and it's really quick and efficient, but sometimes I'm just in the mood to do it the old fashioned way haha.

All in all whether you do it through super training or battling, it's a lot of work, but the difference it makes in competitive battles and the Battle Frontier/Subway/Maison/etc. speaks for itself. What are your thoughts, all? :)

I don't spend a whole lot of time EV training, I usually just try to get a good nature and run with that since I only play in-game. The only time I consciously EV trained was to evolve Tyrogue into Hitmontop for the Pokédex :P

I'm not that big of a competitive player, but I do sometimes do it when I need to train a stat that my Pokemon feels like they need.

I really want to get into competitive battling one day, so the 6th gen way is a god send in terms of efficiency. My way of doing it is to use the Vitamins like Carbos or Protein and then to finish it off with Super Training/Punching Bags once the Vitamins stopped working.

Before the punching bags of Gen. 6? Not a chance. EV training the old way was annoying as hell. I barely can manage to get a Pokémon to level 100, let alone train it for perfect EVs! Most of the time the Pokémon that give both good experience and the right EVs are few and fare between outside one-off trainer battles, so it's quite hard to EV train and level up too.

Sometimes I do try to focus EVs well, I often tend to keep physical attackers out of the path of stuff that gives Special Attack EVs and so on and so forth. But I can farm Kelpsy and Hondew Berries for that purpose. In challenges like -Lockes, near the end if I get new additions i'll try to EV them properly before the Elite Four so they'll be adequately prepared.

I didn't mind EV training stuff in the post-game of most games, at least not when the Power items were a thing.

I rarely care about EVs at all while playing through the story, it's too much effort. I do give a stat boosting drink to the Pokémon that can use those EVs the best when I find one, but that's about it. Post-game I have EV trained only one Pokémon, a Slowbro, perfectly using a macho brace.

EV Training the old way was tedious as hell. Now Gen 6 has a better method of training EVs so I do it sometimes.

Gen 6 EV training is way easy. With the Horde Battles, access to wings, Super Training, it takes no time at all to get my babies all leveled up just right. I do a lot of competitive battling, so the fact that Gen 6 added these features just made the games a million times better. I don't have to worry for a week about a team, I can get it done within just a day.

I could never get into it. ev training just sucks the fun out of the games for me. Though i'm not a competitive player so it's easy for me to be happy with what I end up with. To the people that do ev train you have patience I cannot fathom having!

I generally don't bother with EV Training as I don't battle competively but in Gen 6 I do put my favourite Pokemon through the Super Training as I like them to have the Ribbons.

I EV train post-game since it gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes the game that much longer. Most of my playtime goes towards IV breeding and EV training.. so of course it's an important part of the gameplay for me. Before completing the story it's not worth it to EV train any of my Pokemon since they're usually random 'mons without the best natures or IV spreads who get boxes afterwards. ;c

Preferred method is definitely horde training - it's so quick, especially with the Pokerus and Power items. I used to use Super Training towards the early days of X/Y's release but after comparing that to hordes I realized how slow it was. Super Training's better for those who enjoy the balloon popping minigames or younger players who don't understand the mechanics of battling for EVs.

Definitely doesn't suck the fun out of the games for me and if anything I'm thankful it's around since that really makes me enjoy hatching new Pokemon and perfecting those babies until I've a full team of my favorites with great stats.

I first tried EV training on Emerald around a decade ago, I thought I failed which I actually succeeded. :)

    I started enjoying EV training in Gen VI, despite I'm not a real competitive battler, other than getting 50th (still on going) win streaks at Battle Maison. {XD}

Back in the day when I used to WiFi battle, I did go through the stress of EV training. I did whatever it took to get perfect EVs, looked on the internet for the most efficient ways and there were a few people around the forum to give some aid. However, these days I just use the PC battle server for battling and never WiFi. I tend to just play through the game with non-EVd Pokemon, although I give one or two items to them. It really isn't needed to beat the main game and not essential for post-game stuff like the Battle Frontier/Battle Maison.

I have literally NEVER knowingly engaged in EV training :P I've looked into it, and decided "nah, not for me."

I don't do competitive battling. I'll sometimes play against a friend if we're hanging out but there's no stakes, I'm happy to go in with my regular team, no matter what their EVs are like...
