Imposter Wild Pokemon

Spoiler:

In Scarlet/Violet wild Ditto, Zorua and Zoroark will take on the appearance of other wild Pokemon in the area. They will transform back into themselves if you trigger a fight with them.

Did you like this feature? Would you like to see it return in future Pokemon titles?

I love it. I love anything in Pokémon that results in the game feeling more like a real life, breathing world. Ditto, Zorua, and Zoroark transforming into other wild Pokémon in the area gives them character that helps them stand out from other Pokémon and it accurately represents their Pokédex entries as well that they had throughout the series. I would love to see this feature continued in future Pokémon games. However, I would have also loved it if they took the form of humans as well. I would have been shocked to see Pokémon trainers standing around, but after engaging with them to challenge them to a battle, they turn out to be a Ditto, Zorua, or Zoroark.

I was ambivalent…it annoyed me in Pokémon Go as they Ditto disguises as the most common Pokémon (meaning you use up all your Poké Balls looking for it, not ideal when you live in a rural area), whilst Zorua kept appearing as Feebas, which I really need for a quest!

But when I locked onto a Grafaiai and its name said 'Zorua' as it legged it away, my face lit up. I really like it. There are problems with the OW Pokémon - like how if you exit a battle at the wrong moment a wild Pokémon will instantly trigger another encounter, and at least twice I got stuck in a cave because I couldn't walk around them - but this isn't one. As Serenity says, it makes them feel more real.
I'd love it if they took the anime canon and made all the Ditto ones have the Ditto eyes in their sprites, but given they can't even design a half-decent PC Storage this gen I know that's never going to happen (seriously, I can't jump between boxes holding a Pokémon any more - what is this, Gen III?)

It's about time they did something like this, and I'm glad that it's finally a thing. It's always surprising though when I stumble upon a wild Pokemon an then it's just a Zorua or Ditto. There's no way to know until you encounter them, too.

Also, @Devalue above me: Voltorb do blow up in the overworld. I've seen it many times.

Devalue knows based on their last sentence. You can also find out if it is an imposter by using the zoom feature before battling it.

I do like the gimmick of imposter Pokemon, as it really suits the Zorua line and Ditto. I just wish it wasn't always disguised as the Pokemon I'm looking for XD.

Haha my first Ditto was disguised as Dedenne, the only Pokémon I'd seen and not yet caught in that area

Thank god for being able to get close and use ZL to focus on the Pokémon, checking everything manually to get my first Zorua/Ditto would have been tiring otherwise. I do see Corveone's point about that defeating the point though but I absolutely appreciate the convenience. Which probably means I don't like feature that much? lol
