How upset do you get when things don't go your way or when you lose? I had someone tell me irl today that I get really salty about things lol 8(

I'm salty when I get my ass kicked in a fighting game or when someone says something hypocritical.

I used to be SO bad about being a poor loser or whatever. Nowadays I tend to just let things slide a lot, but once in a while I do still get in a pretty salty mood.

Because of my autism, I usually get pretty upset. It's worse when it's something doesn't go as I planned it would. My brain will usually predict how a situation should go prior to going IN said situation too. So, if things don't go according to that prediction, I end up melting down. XC I don't really have much control over any of it either, despite what people may think.

As for losing, I do get upset when I lose. I'm not competitive or anything, but I just don't like losing is all.

I have to be really careful when I lose Pokemon battles. Whenever I lose, the level of dissolved salts in my bloodstream spontaneously rises to dangerous levels. Once, I lost a battle I was destined to win thanks to a Sucker Punch crit. I had to be hospitalised because of how salty my blood became.

Usually the salt is only generated after a bad day in Smash

Wow I remember when salty was largely just a term fighting game players used lol

How did this word catch on
I'm not sure how it caught on either. I don't really remember the majority of the internet using the word salty even just a year or two ago and now it's pretty commonplace it seems.

What was the origin of its use in fighting game communities anyway?

I dont play video games competitively so I only get salty at the cpu

But board games. seriously you beat me at monopoly pr trivial pursuit and I go into meltdown, It was just luck dammit!

I don't hold grudges, but I have discovered that there are once in a while things that people do towards me that I get sooooo salty about that it's not okay 8) maybe that's just my life's way of smoothening out the fact that I most of the time can't stay angry at anyone for very long.

I have been known to feel the salt with competitive games such as Smash, Splatoon, and sometimes Mario Kart.

What was the origin of its use in fighting game communities anyway?
It's actually a pretty old, but obscure slang. The fighting game community is old, and back then many fighting game players (mainly street fighter) came from urban backgrounds where it was used. It caught on within the FGC since then, and it spread to other competitive games.

I looked it up since I got curious, but apparently the slang likely became widespread because of Smash (has more appeal than any other esport) early this year and people started using it in various social medias, so it caught on.

But uh to answer the topic, yeah I'll keep it traditional - street fighter makes me salty.

    Reactions: Nah
I don't mind if other players are annoyingly salty themselves, but if there's one thing that makes me glow like hot steel then it's LAG

    >:I

I tend to get really intensely upset because I feel like I failed, or that something worse will happen then what the reality is.
    I think it's called catastrophizing, that's what I do.
