    Vote on your Favorite Protagonist!​


    Hello and welcome to a new multi-platform event, that will last several weeks!

    In this event, your objective is to vote for your favorite Pokémon protagonist across a series of polls. To begin, we will start by region*, and see who is the favourite protagonist from each area**. Afterwards, the winner will form a tournament round, where we will do 4 sets of up to 4*** winners, and then take the top two options from there into 2 sets of four, then a final poll.

    Where can I vote?


    You can vote for the first set of people in this thread at the top - the Kanto nominees! You can also vote on our social media pages: Twitter (will use its own poll system), Bluesky (a Google poll), Instagram (a Google poll) and Facebook (a Google poll). Yes, it's better to not go around voting multiple times, but we won't be monitoring things that closely. But don't cheat, that's just boring. This means the winner of each poll will be from all polls (here, Twitter, Google poll) added together, not per platform.

    Polls will run roughly 4 days, and be posted every week as a new thread (or on social media, as a new post). We may speed things up for the spin-off regions.

    Meanwhile, share some propaganda for your pick each week! Take about why you're voting for your character, and make fun of the others (respectfully, of course). We'll also use the results and input for a Daily article summarising the whole event once it ends.

    * Hisui will be treated as separate to Sinnoh.
    ** Spinoff games will also be considered! Orre will feature, while we will also consider the Ranger games' regions separately, but lump the Snap/New Snap regions (and hence protagonists) together.
    *** We may see what the Legends: Z-A protags look like before we hit the tournament phase... pending TPC(i). If so, we'll do a poll on them! Otherwise, one set of 4 polls will have less options... Or we can consider a second chance for the losing protag with the most amount of votes!

    Rules

    1. No Trolling - This includes things like voting on behalf of other users, inputting joke responses in the Google Forms, using bots or creating alt accounts to try and game the voting system, and other dishonest activities. Please don't do that stuff.
    2. Have Fun - We all love Pokémon, and we hope that you derive enjoyment and have a good time with this event!

    Previous Polls


    Kanto: Red, in a narrow win over Leaf! Chase and Elaine were well behind.
    Johto: Kris, in another narrow win over Gold! In fact, Gold won on the forums, but not in the other two platforms. Lyra was a distant third.
    Hoenn: May, in the first clear victory in these series of polls. Brendan and his hat were no match.
    Sinnoh: Dawn, who basically murdered poor Lucas in the polls.
    Unova: Hilda, in a very narrow victory over Rosa (only 2 votes as the difference). This time third place had a respectable turnout (Hilbert), while Nate did okay but was comfortably fourth.
    Orre: Wes won out - Michael got some votes especially on Twitter, but couldn't keep up with the cool teen.

    Now's when things start to get especially difficult for me, because I have truly 0 attachment to any of the (default) characters from the next 4 main series games. I took full advantage of the extended character customization features added in Gen 6+ to quite literally make my own, so the only things (besides default designs) I have to work with are how each of my playthroughs went, and what the final versions of those characters ended up looking like. I preferred the female outfit options over the male ones pretty much 100% of the time, but is that really enough to pick a winner? I don't think so. I'm going with the male protag here because the run I had with his character (named Shale) was the first time I really gave Dark types a chance, and it's also where my love of Absol came from.
     
    *sigh* Like, is it even a contest? Serena. Yet again, Calem has the most normal, boring design you could ever imagine. Stop giving the male protagonists the same look, and maybe for once in my life, I'd pick them as a favorite in these polls, like come on.
     
    This is the hardest choice I've made so far, and likely the hardest I'll make this tournament. I like both their default designs and customization options pretty much equally. As a tiebreaker, though, I'm going to go with their rival designs. Hatless Serena doesn't look nearly as cool because her hat is such an important part of her default outfit, while Calem's design arguably works even better without the hat, so I'm going with Calem. If nothing else, at least it makes this vote less of a landslide.

    And I honestly don't like how almost every feminine protagonist have a generic/ energetic girl vibe. One example I always loved Leaf, she looked really cool in Fire Red, but later games she got the same vibe as the others
     
    Calem. I like his slim-fitting, sleek sense of fashion. I think he's the first of the male player-characters' default designs to incorporate that slim-fit fashion aesthetic. Certainly the first to do so as deeply as Calem's default design does.

    His fashionable-ness fits in with the idealized notion of trendy Parisians, given Kalos is Poke-Paris. And I do like when they buck trends with the male player-characters' design habits whenever they can and no matter how seemingly small.

    Easy vote for Serena. Like, it's not even a contest. She came dangerously close to becoming my favorite protagonist design. I've also cosplayed as her quite frequently, if that's any indication of how much I like her design, at least her original look.

    I'd also estimate that at least 90% of the Pokemon merch I own is Serena merch.

    I choose to ignore how the anime completely ruined her character (Really? She actually LIKES that scumbag loser?), and eventually they botched her design as well (dear God that new outfit they gave her is hideous.) I will admit to liking her main "performer" dress, though. Even the anime can do something right once in a while.

    Also, I won't be voting in the next few polls because we'll be getting into the games where I either don't care about the protagonists (Sw/Sh) or that I have no intention of playing at all (everything else.)
     
    This one is hard. I love Calem's design, because it looks great and somewhat original, but still have that Pokémon male protagonist vibe. Probably my favourite male design after the Red. But Serena was the first character that made me question my gender and later on my first "girly" outfit was based on her clothes, so she has a special place in my heart. Nonetheless, I think I Calem gets my vote, because good male design is quite rare in Pokémon.
