News: Starter Pokémon, Legendaries, Region, Release Date for Sun and Moon Revealed!

I'm sure the release date is down to the individual capacity of each regional branch of Nintendo/The Pokemon Company and not some imagined vendetta from Game Freak.
As they have proven in the past, they are more than capable of a simultaneous worldwide release. More than capable. So either this is an imagined vendetta or sheer incompetence. Neither is acceptable, especially not for a mothership Pokemon title.

Idk, I really don't see any reason why they can't do a same day worldwide release for Sun/Moon, especially after they did for X/Y. A November release date does not mean that they're developing the game all the way up till a few days before then; the final product, translations included, should be ready well before then. This is also a major corporation putting out the next entry (and an anniversary one at that) of one of the biggest franchises in history, they most definitely should have both the will and the ability to get it available for purchase for everyone in the world at the same time.

  • I WANT ALL THREE! I haven't been this in-love with all three starters since Unova! I like owls and cats and Popplio's design... Looks like I'll be asking around for eggs... Anyone a Pokémon egg dealer?

  • No, there is no being fair about this. That takes a lot longer than five days, and when XY had a worldwide release I refuse to even consider the idea that they'd need any extra time to get it to us on time, as we deserve. Nintendo are more than capable of a simultaneous worldwide release. There is no excuse.

XY was three years ago. For crying out loud, they can't be THAT anal over it. It's ridiculous. From a business standpoint they're not making money, and this does nothing but alienate fans of the series by making them wait for no adequately explored or justifiable reason. I refuse to accept that as an excuse. They're a corporation, not a stroppy kid giving their parents the silent treatment because they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

...also, since I probably shouldn't go on about it - but I am going to, because I will eventually find the right words to express my anger and utter contempt for Nintendo for this - it's a shame the water starter is so ugly when the other two are so damned adorable. I'll use all three on my first run through the game as is my tradition, but the water one is hideous. I hope it evolves into something a little less gross.

Legendaries are nice. Which game I play now depends largely on the exclusives, because that white lion looks so much like the White Tigerzord I can't even deal.

Or more like the parent who is still angry at you for eating the last cookie.

But, it should be related to the European branch. I mean in N.A. sanctioned events are administered by the regional branch irc. Like wise for translations, etc. It'll be Europe's branch that keeps dropping the ball :(

This is likely the case, plus most main series Pokemon titles were usually released in Europe last. Even Australia got most of the titles before Europe, except for R/B and B/W where Australia was last but Europe was first for B/W.

If we're getting a release pattern like OR/AS again, I could see Japan/US/Australia all get it on the 18th (like how they all got OR/AS on the 21st, and Europe got it the following week) while it's just Europe stuck with the 23rd.

Someone keeps messing up in our region, anyway. No wonder Nintendo keeps so quiet about who handles what - if we ever get a name for who keeps screwing us over, I expect a lot of people would be doing their utmost to get that person fired. They'd bloody deserve it, too.

Translations DO account for delays in a lot of cases...but they account for months, not five days. Also, when you consider that small corporations that specify in niche titles like Idea Factory and NISA can get games to the EU regions the Friday after the Tuesday of the US release, there is no excuse whatsoever for Nintendo for screwing up like this. That they won't even provide an apology or a reason for this - because they never do - only makes it even worse.

If not for the fact that the game comes out on Friday, and thus probably wouldn't arrive before the UK release date, I'd buy an American 3DS right now to give Nintendo the middle finger, because they clearly no longer want my money. I'll just take a five-day hiatus from the internet to avoid spoilers or something.

For what it's worth, I hope Australia isn't included in the EU release this time around, and gets the earlier release date instead. You guys get it even harder than EU regions with game release dates sometimes, so I hope for once you don't have to suffer with the rest of us.

I can see your point, and I know Australia gets shafted with some games. I recall we got Pokken Tournament last, and it was quite a gap from when it came out elsewhere. But for main series Pokemon titles, we mostly get them before Europe (except for Red/Blue and Black/White, where Australia was last) so if we're releasing similar to OR/AS here, we'll probably get it on the 18th like America and Japan.

We do get the same treaty as Europe in regards to most event distributions, but that's a different story.

It does! It's like a choice between the White Tigerzord or a fanmade Mega Noivern with the Legendaries. If not for the fact I expect Moon will have the better exclusives, I'd get Sun for myself. I still might after I've seen the lists.

...on a side note, the 23rd is actually the day before my mother's birthday. At least I've got her present sorted now.

I have to agree. With the Unova Games, I used both my Ds Systems to get all three pokemon. And I had a TON of fun doing rotations with my team, changing my team based on upcoming gyms.

Sadly I do not currently own a second 3DS/2DS, but might get a 2DS and use it for trading purposes, although with Pokemon Bank, may not be difficult. And a lot cheaper than a second system.

The fire starter just looks... Bland, to me. Like it was quickly thrown together with little thought

  • The starters look odd but maybe it's just me seeing Pokemon we've never seen before. BUT I'm so excited to get my hands on my first own 3DS and play this. I'd love to use Litten :)

  • Does this mean the starters that were leaked from 2chan were just beta designs for the ones we have now? I can guarantee you that the starter trio will follow the Flying > Fighting > Rock cycle because of Rowlet being part Flying, so expect Litten to be a Fire/Fighting tiger as its final evo (not something to complain about, as it fits thanks to Street Fighter and Kung Fu Panda). The legendaries don't seem to look simplified as Sugimori stated before about Gen VII, which I'm reliefed. Seeing these artwork images of the starters, has the website uploaded images of the main characters yet?

Maybe those fake scans could have been beta designs that were changed late in production. Anyways, as for the protagonist artwork I think we may have to wait a while, since I recall we waited a fair few months for Calem and Serena's artwork after their appearance in the first X/Y trailer.

Honestly, no. They were educated fabrication based on the names alone. Some weren't that close. I've seen about four or five different ideas on what Mokuroh, Nyabby, and Ashimaru were supposed to look like. Some people got lucky with their ideas and got fairly close. Closest to Ashimari was paired with a Parakeet looking bird and the ever popular 4chan Roothoot had that abomination that they were trying to pass off as Nyabby.

  • It seems Game freak have gone for a general cute theme to the starters and I think I'm the only person who likes Litten haha. Why does the Moon legendary look like a Zelda boss xD and did anybody else notice it looks like they've removed the circle things from underneath the Pokemon in battle which is a nice touch and adds an extra level of immersion to the games. I also saw a comment on YouTube where somebody said it looked like a fan made game and I'd have to agree but I think it's going to be awesome and I can't contain the hype.

Justice for Europe, once again. What did we do to deserve this? :(

I struggle to believe that its because of the XY leaks. What real difference is the game leaking a few days early in 1 region than 1 region getting it a few days before the other? The information about the game will still be out there before everyone has the game.

    And besides, Europe >>>
