[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along VI: Return of the Gaming

I've beaten A Hat in Time and collected every Time Piece. I haven't completed Death Wish yet, though, and don't expect to do so before the end of the month.

This game is, simply, wonderful. The platforming is really fun, and there's so many details put into everything. The story is good, the levels are all really cool, I love the characters, and I think it might have my favorite voice acting out of any game I've ever played! The only issue is that the combat is mediocre and the non-boss enemies are not that interesting to fight, but combat isn't really a focus of the game, so it doesn't matter that much. I don't have that much experience with collect-a-thon platformers, but I definitely want to play more of them after playing this one.
This is yet another reminder for me to finally give this game a try. I love collect-a-thon games, but always forget that this one exists.

Anyways, I beat Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on GBA. It was okay. It didn't age well and it fluctuates between trivial and impossible to beat levels. I'll post my thoughts in my journal soon.

I barely made it to the end of Bug Fables in time, but I did! Wonderful game, especially as a classic Paper Mario fan!

Finished up the second Ace Attorney Investigations game to complete the duology. Thankfully didn't go quite down to the wire like I'd worried.

February: Trust Issues

February is the month of love. And what is love without trust? Perhaps we will find out, as this month's theme is all about testing how much you can trust another person. This month, you must let someone else choose your game. Partner, spouse, sibling, parent, stranger on Instagram - doesn't matter. Once this other person locks in their choice though, you're stuck with it. Your fate is in their hands.

That's right, a February where the theme isn't short games. Good luck and have fun.

@Alex_Among_Foxes, I'd like you to pick a game for me, please. Keep in mind that there are certain genres I don't like. I own a PC and Steam Deck, and also have a GBA, 3DS, and Android phone available. There's also the family Wii and Xboxes, but I have to share a TV with my family, so I don't expect them to be available unless the game is very short.

For PC games, keep it to games that are either available without intrusive DRM*, and are available on Steam, GOG, or itch.io for 30 dollars or less, or are freeware. I can also emulate most retro games, but please avoid anything past the DS/Wii era to avoid potential compatibility issues, or games that rely on Wii motion controls. I also can't aim well on a controller, so don't give me a console-only FPS. Romhacks or fangames are fine too, of course.

Please don't pick anything too difficult or too long, since I'm not sure if I'll have a lot of time this month. Something around 30 hours or less on HowLongToBeat should be good. Apart from that, pick whatever you want. I'd like to play one of your favorites!

*Origin, Uplay, and Epic-exclusives, plus any DRM that requires a server connection, including on-startup connection DRM like Denuvo.

[PokeCommunity.com] The PokeCommunity Game-Along VI: Return of the Gaming

I asked my bf to pick me a game for this month because I've gotten a bunch of great game recommendations from him across the years we've been dating and I'd trust him with my life and he responds with something along the lines of "So I can pick anything, and you're stuck with it the entire month? That's fun."

It'll be an interesting month...

Missed out on January but I'll pick this back up starting here in February!

I asked Faf to pick a game for me and she chose the Spyro Reignited Trilogy (of course it would be a dragon game :P). The games aren't very long on their own, so I'm gonna actually try to get through all three this month. Should be fun!

Alex suggested Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for me, so I'm going to play that! I'm playing the Dominus Collection version, if it matters.

I am completely new to the Castlevania series, but plot-wise, this seems like a good spot to start. Its protagonist, Shanoa, lost her memories in the prologue, making her just as out of the loop as I am.

I can vouch for you and say Order of Ecclesia has a completely self-contained story, so you aren't really gonna be missing anything or expect to know anything from other Castlevania games.

I asked my bf for a game to play, and he offered that I play Hades, and according to him it does have an actual ending that I should be able to reach by the end of the month. I've never played it and know it's a roguelike though, so if for whatever reason it's not valid for the challenge, I suppose I'll be playing the original Final Fantasy VII instead.

I asked Setsu for a game and got Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, so I'll be doing that one for the month!

Hades is valid!

My partner has decided I'm playing Luigi's Mansion.

Oh this is a cool one! I'm going to tempt fate and just leave this post here for whoever suggests a game for me first. My only ask is not something super mega long, I think condensing 100+ hours of play into a fortnight for last month's theme has ruined me a bit.

I got you. Just one sec.

Okay. Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You. It's fairly cheap on Steam, short and also very different to your last game. It's one of my favourites so it'd be cool to see someone else's thoughts.

Curiously, the GCN (original) version, or the 3DS version?

If the former I'd suggest the PAL (rather than NTSC aka US) version if possible, due to improved content (moreso the 'Hidden Mansion' or hard mode). I think the 3DS game is based on the NTSC one sadly.

I'm not sure which version the 3DS one is based off of, but it does indeed have a proper hard mode as I've done it before. The first attic room is insanely tough lol.
