[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along VI: Return of the Gaming

I'm not sure which version the 3DS one is based off of, but it does indeed have a proper hard mode as I've done it before. The first attic room is insanely tough lol.
It does, certainly - I had meant that it's different to the superior PAL version of the hard mode of the original game. I went looking, according to this the 3DS versions loses the 'mansion is flipped' aspect, and a neat change to one of the boss fights, but does some other changes too. So not too bad, but certainly for gimmepie, if you do want to do the hard mode on GCN versions of the game, play the PAL version.

(last post on this I promise) That's extremely interesting! Now I wanna try out the PAL GC version as well sometime just to experience the mansion in mirror mode lol.

Does it count if I wrote out a bunch of titles and let my cat pick or is that too rng?

If it has to be a conscious choice let me know and I'll post a list of the games I own here for someone else to pick. 😅

That's so cute I'm tempted to say yes. But it's not really keeping with the spirit. Someone needs to consciously choose.

After some thinking, I asked our lovely @Explorer of Time for a title and got Chrono Trigger. I'm excited to try it, because it's one of those games I always wanted to play, but never seem to find a time for it. I got recommended DS port, so I'll be playing that version.

TALES OF ZESTIRIA :)

(to clarify this is a joke post I would not wish this on my worst enemy)

I got you. Just one sec.

Okay. Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You. It's fairly cheap on Steam, short and also very different to your last game. It's one of my favourites so it'd be cool to see someone else's thoughts.
Thank you!!!! What's even better is it's already in my library so nice and free. I did have a little go just to kinda see the vibe but going to start again proper over the next few days.

no, but only because i only want games I haven't beaten.

okay here's a list of every game I own that I haven't beaten that I can currently play... someone pick something! sorry for Too Much Choice but if you have something in mind, ctrl+f and maybe I own it lmao. please pick something that can actually be beaten... i haven't vetted most of the indie games for whether they're more arcade style or actual games with an ending

Trails in the Sky

Play Yooka-Laylee!

Last night I finally reached the end of my first run of Hades, and since that took me 17 hours over 4 days and I've been told apparently "fully" beating the game requires you to clear 10 more escape attempts (which feels very discouraging after getting your first win, I kinda don't even want to go back to it today), I'm considering that first clear as my win and I'll just be trying to reach that point sometime in February if I can.

Hades was really fun, though it really doesn't mess around, it was pretty hard. I found myself getting frustrated every so often and needing to take breaks, and I'm still not really sold on roguelike progression, but I thought the game itself was really great overall. My favourite boons came from Ares and Artemis, and gradually learning boss attacks and patterns over several runs to progress through your own skill instead of getting something like a "instant win button" boon from a god was the best part.

And completed guardians of the galaxy!

It was a fun game, the story and world building stuff was pretty fun and all the conversations the characters had, I enjoyed it! You could choose certain choices which seemed to have impacts on how the overall story went too which was nice.
The combat though was kind of repetitive and the "platforming" felt more like they needed to slow the player down than anything else. But my biggest issue was the way the audio triggers were set up. I think they had little checkpoints over the map that when you ticked one it would cut the current voice lines and play something else, sometimes this helped the conversation feel natural and others it just didn't make sense and now I won't hear whatever it was they were going to say before.

Overall though, a good fun game!
Onto March!

I just finished 100%ing Shantae and the Pirate's Curse! While I'm not going to pretend there weren't any moments that got a bit frustrating, overall I had a really good time with it! (and it was a much needed break from RPGs lol) The highlights for me were the music, the graphics quality, (was playing the Steam version, though, to be fair) and how good the movement felt after getting all the 'power-up' items. I also appreciated that it only took me around 9 and a half hours to get 100%.

Orwell all done! Firstly I super appreciated how short this was.

But oh. my. GOD. This game was incredible. I'll put more detail into a journal post at some point in the near future, but this was an amazing experience. It really dives deep into the surveillance crisis we are aware of and just keeps really hammering the messages in. The dilemmas it put in front of me and the twists it threw in had me absolutely gripped from the get-go. The game did a great job of never feeling stale - as much as my overall task was the same each day, it always felt fresh; there was just enough new information/methods of investigating to make sure it never felt tedious.

And the ending. Well obviously I won't go into detail but WOW, I haven't actually felt so heavily impacted by my decisions in game like that for a long time.

Thank you very much GP for this recommendation! I could see very quickly why it's one of your favourites and I am definitely going to endeavour to do some playthroughs of this in the future!

I've completed Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, recommended to me by Alex_Among_Foxes, and it was amazing! I loved everything about this game, and I want to play more Metroidvanias, especially more Castlevania games. This is a genre and franchise that I'm somewhat new to, so I'd love to hear recommendations. I've also purchased all the other Castlevania games currently on Steam to play later.

I have heard that this game was one of the hardest Castlevania games, but it ended up being on the easier side for me. The only problems I ran into were the fights against Brachyura and Rusalka, since I was trying to conserve healing items because I didn't have enough money to buy more, and the Large Cavern which is an endgame optional challenge area in the first place. Shanoa seems to be able to take quite a lot of hits if she has good armor, even without healing items, which is great since I'm not good at dodging. Save/heal points are also plentiful enough that I never felt frustrated by the difficulty.

I absolutely adored the glyph system, it was quite fun to learn and use all these different abilities to exploit enemy weaknesses. The combat in general was amazing, and the only issue was in the lategame, where some bosses were cheesable by spamming super-effective Glyph Unions under the effect of Dominus Agony. Blackmore, Death, and Dracula didn't even get past their first attacks before I killed them, and I'm fairly certain that I could've done the same to Barlowe if I knew what Dominus Agony did before fighting him.

I'll also finish my game journal for this game later this week.

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I beat Undertale! Well, one of its endings. I already knew the gimmick and all so I went for a pacifist ending. But to get a better one I needed to get this standard one first, so I'll do that in the next couple days too. Not going for the meaner endings though. Maybe I'll watch someone else do that. :v
