Today's the day. Results aren't out yet obviously (it's 10 something AM EST atm) and I imagine we won't know them tomorrow morning, but here's a thread for it. Post any final thoughts you have, any predictions etc. Then we can talk about the results when we have that too.

    My final predictions:

    Electoral College:
    Spoiler:

    Senate:
    Spoiler:

House: 232 Democratic seats, 203 Republican seats.

As for my non-prediction thoughts on the election, I endorse Kamala Harris, and encourage everyone who can vote, but hasn't yet, to turn out today to vote for her.

I'm currently on my phone and won't be able to make a prediction map before the first set of results is released at 7PM EST, but I agree with yours except I think GA, AZ and NC will go for Trump rather then Harris.

As for my general thoughts, I'm absolutely terrified about what Trump could do if he returns to the white house (eg: Project 2025), and I hope Harris will finally be able to break the glass ceiling and become the first female president. I'm pretty upset about just barely not being old enough to vote (I turn 18 in February) this time around. But I suppose there has to be a line drawn somewhere and I just had the misfortune of being on the wrong side of it; at least I live in a very safe state where my hypothetical vote wouldn't really matter or alter the inevitable result instead of being in like Pennsylvania.

I voted early. I still had to drive my family to the polling place today.

It was surprisingly not busy. Either low voter turnout here or 2:00 PM isn't a core hour.

Expects Harris to win. Guesses Republicans to take control of the Senate (at least). Put up 23 Democratic senator seats for re-election versus only 11 Republican senator seats. Admittedly depends on how close those seats were.

Started feeling way more stressed since results started coming in. Realizes plenty of votes have to come in. Still hopes for better.

Voted maybe a month ago via absentee voting, also. Appreciates that being an option here (Michigan). Never waited very long in line in any election. Avoids going anywhere this way.

I figured things could go either way, so I'm not really all that surprised Trump won.

The fact that the Democrats couldn't (easily) beat a guy who is such an obvious narcissistic psychopathic fascist shows though both how deeply fucked up the United States has always been (if that somehow wasn't clear to everyone already) and how terribly unappealing the Dems are. (before anyone gets stupid ideas, I did not vote for Trump or any GOP candidate and you will find me dead before you find me ever voting Republican)

Still waiting on some of the House results, though if the Dems do retain a majority in there, it's probably going to be a smaller majority than before.

Incredibly disappointing result, especially considering Trump seems on track to win the popular vote. It's one thing if he pulled a 2016 and won through EC shenanigans; but it appears that the majority of Americans actually voted for Trump. I know it's a meme, but I'm seriously thinking of moving to Canada (as soon as possible since I'm not eligible at the moment) since I have 0 desire to live in a country that evidently hates me and my views.

...and if anyone's wondering why I continue to lose faith in humanity by the day, I present to you Exhibit A. No, I was not completely sold on Harris and all of her policies, but compared to the rambling, wannabe-dictator, convicted felon that the other party put forth, she was obviously the lesser of two evils by a large margin.

Apparently low gas prices are more important to a large swath of Americans than preserving our system of government.

I suppose I can hope that Trump decides to spend more of his second term golfing instead of putting his more extreme policies into effect.

Why bother being analytical about this? The misguided rednecks in the central states got their way, millions of people's lives will be effected in the process and that's their bed they're gonna lie in. The air will turn a sombre shade of blue in the coming months.

I'm just flat-out scared for my future since I am a transgender minor. I also wasn't a huge fan of Kamala but at least she isn't going to actively try to limit my chances of growing up and having a future where I don't need to worry for my life and for the lives of others like me. It's baffling and frankly childish that lower gas prices earned more votes than keeping our governmental system preserved instead of devolving into a hypothetical fascist state. It seems (from my observations) that we are slowly headed in that direction and this seems to be the straw that might break the camel's back.
It started as a joke with my friend but we might actually leave the country if it continues to go like this once we are old enough

Hang in there. I'd never pretend that things are better than they are, but there's still people out there who will support you.

But, to be completely blunt, I am sitting here astounded that this is where the US - and the world - are. Not because the results are surprising, but because they should be. Harris has her share of problems but between "flawed establishment candidate" and "wannabe dictator, insurrectionist, bigoted, terrible for everyone who isn't a rich, white dude and a literal criminal in some of the worst possible ways" it really shouldn't have mattered how flawed a candidate Harris was. This should still have been an easy win for her. The fact it wasn't speaks volumes and whether you voted Trump, third party or elected not to vote at all, you should be ashamed.

This is catastrophically bad for the US and it's not going to good for the rest of us either when you butterfly effect our economies and politics. It's most certainly going to suck beyond belief for Ukraine and Palestine to have the US backing invasion, war and genocide.

I decided to vote for the liberterian even though I didn't know the person as I didn't really support either Trump or Harris and didn't really want to vote for either, but was going into the polls nervous since really neither party really has my full trust since I feel both have roots of hatred in both. I view myself as independent, but I wasn't shocked by my states choice since I live in a heavily conservative state. Though I was surprised that Robert Kennedy wasn't removed from the ballot since he ended his presidential campaign months ago.

And The Republicans now have control of the Senate.

The unfortunate thing is that it's more than just gas prices that pushed for this - there's been a lot of electoral reforms that have pushed things in favor of the Republican party in the last several years. They've been working towards this slowly, and this is the culmination of their work.

I implore that you keep your head up, even in the hard times that are ahead. You've got a bright future, and the Republican party is going to try and snuff that out. Don't let them win, be who you want to be. You'll have a massive support net to get you through this, and you'll come out stronger than before. Don't let these awful adults dictate how you want to live your life.

I've come to learn that politics aren't really black and white as they were made out to be in school, and that sometimes voting for the least-bad option is better than either not voting at all or voting for someone that doesn't stand a chance winning. In the election, Kamala came in late and her views on the war in Gaza definitely hurt her, and those views I also didn't agree with, but juxtaposing that against all the vitriol of the Republican party would make the choice more than obvious for me. Granted, I can't vote - I'm not a US citizen - but my priority would be not allowing a party that includes members that are literally praising Nazis and using ideas out of their own playbook to allow for a better chance for everyone to get what they eventually want would win for me - and picking the least bad option of what's available.

One thing that's been bothering: as it became clear that Trump was winning people started immediately to look for someone to blame. And seeing how people who clearly defined themselves as leftists suddenly started to pin the blame on minorities and women just really brought out the cynic in me thinking "yeah, you kinda deserve this". <_<

On the other hand it's also nice to see that marginalized groups are now banding together to support each other through the dark times ahead. Just kinda wish this was not the reason they had to do it. :(
