    Generation 7 had Pokemon or aliens, I guess, called Ultra Beasts. They all came from a place known as Ultra Space. There are 11 of them in total. In S/M, you catch them around the Alola region. However, in US/UM, you'll have to go through White wormholes in Ultra Space to find them. Unlike legendary Pokemon, you can catch one per visit if you land in a white Wormhole. Except Poipole. You only get one.

    What did you think of the Ultra Beasts? Which, if any, were your favorites? I know a lot of people dislike the Ultra Beasts, after all.
     
    Naganadel is a much needed boost to Dragon typing countering Fairy, but he's seemingly mostly Speed and Special...and Guzzlord is absolute garbage. Decent Attack and Special Attack, and completely nothing else. Literal giant machine , but no defensive bulk whatsoever? This is my take on the ones I've used, have them all at this point, and they're pretty seemingly the only ones who aren't very well rounded and don't have insane stats above 200 or more in some areas. A Quick Claw and Heavy Slam/Gyro Ball seems to be the only hope for Guzzlord.

    Naganadel is something I anxiously waited for when I got UM, but no denying he could have been better.

    The rest I really don't have much bad to say about, they're very well rounded to suit their niche style and brought more of some unique typings. Though several too have double weaknesses. I'd really like to know why Guzzlord is so lackluster though, but other than that I'm all but certain we'll see Ultra Beasts in the expansions.
     
    I guess I'm one of those people that really disliked the Ultra Beasts, don't get me wrong, I loved Sun and Moon, the vibe they had, the region, and most of the Pokemon, but the UBs just didn't feel like they should be in Pokemon to me. The idea of 'aliens' in the series didn't appeal to me and neither did their designs either! Being honest, I could probably only remember like two of them haha, I feel bad bashing on the idea of them, but I suppose it's just the way I feel!
     
    I guess I was one of those who didn't really care either way, Though I will go with Xurkitree, Celesteela and Kartana as my favorites and thought Buzzwole was rather creepy.
     
    I liked the idea of the Ultra Beasts, but I didn't like the way the idea was executed. Design-wise I think they all looked a little TOO alien - I know that was the point, but they didn't really have any similarities at all with basic Pokemon design, so the point wasn't subtlety made as much as it was smashed into the eyes with a hammer and nails, so it really didn't fit - and...well, they were completely wasted. They're just a generation gimmick, with zero thought or care put into them beyond the seventh generation. I absolutely cannot stand Game Freak's tendency to just toss aside very basic level concepts in favour of new ones which are equally under-developed and poorly thought-out the next generation, when all it would take is a little more effort to turn them into something special. It was the same with Mega Evolution in Gen VI, Z-Moves also in Gen VII, and no doubt Dynamax/Gigantamax will suffer the same fate once Gen IX rolls around. It's just a waste of a good idea.

    So yeah, cool idea. Too bad they didn't bother making it more than just a very basic idea.
     
    Ehhh they're okay, but at this point pretty forgettable. I think the worst injustice of it all was the constant talk of ultra space and then you actually get to go to ultra space and it's just a corridor. Then the post game UB missions or whatever it was called weren't anything special. Some of them were cool looking I suppose to say the least.
     
    gimmicky, not a fan. don't get me wrong, i like gimmicks and i think they can work when done correctly, but i found little reason to care for ultra beasts. i think almost all of them bar celesteela are ugly. and i mean that might actually be the point tbh i mean they're aliens from outer space more so than they are pokemon. but even the name just sounds dumb to me. ultra beasts...idk that's like. something 7 year old me would call a cerberus or something. call them something more accurate like dimensional beasts or unidentified life forms idk.

    but you can take what i'm saying with a grain of salt, my last visit to ultra beasts has been some time ago. and i don't say all of the above in a way like i dislike gen 7 or anything, i think it's a strong generation with some great ideas, mechanics, and pokemon designs - but the ultra beasts are not a part of that statement.
     
    I personally couldn't stand any of them with the exception of Guzzlord which did sort of remind me of a Pokémon tk a certain extent. Yes, the Ultra Beasts were gimmicks, and maybe that reason i couldn't really stand them was because I'm used to looking at Pokémon as creatures with emotional connections that can be forged on a human-animal level, but man, one look at the ultra beasts, and they all felt devoid of emotion, which i understand since that's probably the concept they were going for, but it just didn't click with me. The beast ball is dope though.
     
    I'm one of the few people who loved the Ultra Beasts and I do love how all of them are foreign looking Pokemon (I do find Pheromosa looks a lot like the other Pokemon though). I think one thing I didn't like was how they can be captured and I'd much rather have them as sort of enemies, although I will miss using Naganadel.

    But yeah, alien dragon wasp is my favourite and is even in my top 10.
     
    They were a cool idea though I only like two niehligo and pherimosa
     
    I don't think I really had an opinion on them either way. I didn't really care much for them but thought it was nice seeing Looker again for another side quest. Never used them, really just kinda meh imo.
     
    I find some of their concepts and designs interesting but I mostly don't care about them for the same reason I don't care about legendaries.

    Except for very few exceptions you can only get them when you're almost at the end of the game, or sometimes even in the post-game, so there's nothing to use them for.
    If I already have a full team and very little or no stuff left to do, I'm not gonna bother training them or anything. And even if I could get them earlier I wouldn't use them because they would trivialize the games even more. Pokémon games are easy enough with a team of "mundane" Pokémon, so what are these super strong creatures needed for?

    These kind of unique Pokémon are interesting when there's only a few of them, and when there's some plot and lore around them. But when it's just "go here, catch this, go there, catch that" it's really dull and lazy. They're just more mons to fill Pokédex pages and put to sleep in boxes.

    I guess if you're into competitive some of them might be useful since exploiting overpowered and broken mons as much as possible is a key aspect of competitive, but for the in-game they're pointless and most of the time add nothing of value to the experience.
     
    Dislikes them on the whole. Falls under a similar category as legendaries. Prefers humbler Pokemon you can actually use in a playthrough. Tends to not look like a creature too. Loses points that way.

    Agrees with Sydian on the name being bad. Adds how silly (and lazy) everything sounds with "Ultra" tacked onto everything: Ultra Space, Ultra Wormholes, and Ultra Beasts. Relies too hard on the word. (Did not choose "epic" at least. Oversaturated games and media with that.)

    On a one-by-one basis:
    - Nihilego: Feels too much like a jellyfish. Dings Stantler for similar reasons. Covered jellyfish with Tentacool (who did it better). Rates it as not terrible, but lacking.
    - Buzzwole: Overshot "strong". Landed in "goofy" territory. Generally cares little for heavily muscled Pokemon (like Conkeldurr). Hard no. Credits it for at least looking like a creature. Might have managed a good rating with less muscles.
    - Pheromosa: Not a fan, but not terrible. Resembles Tsareena a bit. Might actually prefer Pheromosa.
    - Xurkitree: Rags on Pokemon like the Vanillite line for being objects with eyes. Stuck a face on those, at least. Reached behind the monitor and found a Pokemon here. Passed up a much better Electric/Grass tree design. Very no.
    - Celesteela: ...What is this supposed to be? A rocket engine? How does this thing even live? Does it eat food? Can it see? Also no.
    - Kartana: Likes the origami and throwing star feel. Resembles something like an actual creature. Gives it an above average rating.
    - Guzzlord: Minds this less than others. Buys the concept of a horrifying, all-consuming alien. Neutral.
    - Poipole and Nagandel: Excellent. Pulls off the alien concept, while still looking like a (robotic) creature. Should have been Steel/Poison, though.
    - Stakataka: Compares it more to a moving building than a creature. Counts close enough to be neutral.
    - Blacephalon: Please explain this thing. Slithers towards people, apparently. Blows up its own head. Sports garish colors. Glued multicolored balls randomly onto a stick person. Never contemplated who would be on a Bottom 10 Pokemon list. Guesses this to be on there.

    pheromosa: probably one of the best looking ones. would have tea with, but also she looks like a bug i would flick off my arm 8/10
    xurkitree: he gives me michael myers vibes. he will find me 1/10
    celesteela: if not for being so large, would happily put on my christmas tree as an ornament...probably my favorite of the bunch tbh. but also why is he a flying type. what is he doing 9/10
    kartana: PEW PEW!!!! 7/10
    guzzlord: fits the name of ultra beast bc he looks like a 7 year old's nightmare incarnate as a pokemon 2/10
    poipole: a baby 5/10
    nagandel: large baby 5/10
    stakataka: honestly it's so silly and the name is weirdly cute i kind of like it. like he's so dumb i can't help but enjoy him 9/10
    blacephelon: herpes -3/10
